Thanks for this video. I had hung lights with a very long span and initially tensioned them with the electrical line between the lights. I wan't comfortable with this and needed a fair amount of tension to keep the lights high enough. One day later I saw your video and instantly recognized a great solution. I used your hardware link (already had the lights). Everything arrived the next afternoon. Within less than 30 minutes I had 3 lines (40 foot each) up, strung the lights, and had a much more professional installation with virtually no tension load on the electrical components. Thank you for taking the time to document this, upload it, explain it, and link the hardware. Less than 24 hours between watching the video and the whole system installed.

I’ve watched many videos on how to hang these lights. Yours is, by far, the best. Simple without over-engineering the project. I installed mine today after purchasing all the hardware. Even with a small yard I t took all day but I did it by myself It looks absolutely fantastic, super clean and professional. Thank you so much for this video.

I'm watching your video because I have to install these lights kinda often. I have to say... We used to use wooden poles like that before with triangles at the bottom to keep them erect (which was gaudy as hell) and had to place plants all around those to cover up the triangles. I have just switched to using galvanized fence poles instead with little eyelets at the top. It has upped my lighting game tremendously. I also don't even bother with the steel cable but I guess if I had to do longer runs of them I would. I just use a zip tie to secure them to the poles. Anyways, like I said I've been installing these kind of lights now for about 4 years and still learning. Happy to see someone else's version.

Great video man. Wondering if stringing the cable through the hole above the lights would work instead of zip tie. A little more work on the ground but might be worth not having to use zip ties. Just a thought.
@DIYOnTheHouse
@DIYOnTheHouse 2 жыл бұрын
That probably would work. 2 reasons we didn't go that route - it was 100 feet and was cumbersome and heavy to pull up -- the hole on top of the lights would have turned the lights at a 90 degree angle to the cable and it would have bunched up. Appreciate you watching!
@andsof00
@andsof00 Жыл бұрын
I thought of same thing, however, in order for that to work well, the orientation of the hole would have to run perpendicular to the string of lights, so that the wire would fish through properly. However, it's made parallel. (meaning the wire would have to curve / zig zag around the holes to accomplish what you're saying.) Perhaps the manufacturers could make this change!

@DIYOnTheHouse
@DIYOnTheHouse 5 ай бұрын
Hi, I set them at 2' in concrete. They also use the fence as bracing. If the fence wasn't there I think they might pull in at the top because it's 45' across the yard. The posts are 12' long. If yours are free standing I would go deeper depending on the span.

Correct me if I’m wrong but…wasn’t the cable supposed to run through the lights? Through those little holes?
@DIYOnTheHouse
@DIYOnTheHouse Жыл бұрын
The hanger holes are facing the wrong way. But I still would do it the same way, the cable should last years. I don't see the light lasting as long with the UV so it will be easier to change the string lights out when they are done.

Could you not run the thin support wire through the hole on the top of the string lights instead of using cable ties. This would also aid in determining adequate tension. Remove bulbs of course until strung.
@DIYOnTheHouse
@DIYOnTheHouse 3 жыл бұрын
The holes face the wrong way and would twist the lights. It would also be a problem to replace the string light in the future. Probably not my first choice.

How were your posts set? Were they just put into the ground, or did you put them in concrete footings? I want to put my posts on top of poured footings, but I am concerned with the posts leaning with the 1/8” cable and turnbuckles I will be using to keep them tight. I would just put the posts into the ground, but I know how that causes rot, regardless of type of wood.
@DIYOnTheHouse
@DIYOnTheHouse 3 жыл бұрын
We cemented in each post 2' in the ground, I agree, they would lean otherwise. Wood will eventually rot - but should last years and years.

I hate my neighbor’s lights! I live In the mountains of NM. This guy selfishly turn his lights on full moon nights. He goes away for weeks for his job and leaves his lights 100% of the time. He uses those bright ass LED lights. We live 500 feet away from his front door and those rotten lights shine on my house. I do enjoy viewing the night sky in the mountain. This guy’s family lives up the road and they do the same. BTW, this whole family goes to church and has no regard for their neighbors. There are other ways for home security:
