As a licensed plumber, I've always wanted to build a PC with a water cooled system integrated with a homes potable water plumbing system. We could build a loop in the homes cold water system and use a recirculation pump to displace the heat of the PC among the entire plumbing system 👀 I guarantee it would work

Sounds interesting. I've seen a guy using heat from graphcis card used for crypto mining to increase the temperature of his house. You can find it on youtube I think.

Hello, plumber here! Note on the soldering of the outer piping: you used the wring kind of joints. These have a rubber inside of them, which won’t take kindly to tho soldering process. I’m sure you’ll fare much better with joints that are meant to be soldered with. Some tips if you’re interested: -ensure enough ventilation -Make sure theres no dirt on the pipes -make sure to use sandpaper on the bits that will be soldered -after that use some flux (s-39 will do great) to cover the surfaces that are to be soldered. -after assembly, make sure you heat both parts about equally -the tip of you flame is the hottest -if the joints are at the correct temperature, the solder will be pulled in the joint. Just touch one spot, the flux will pull it in. Stop when you can see solder all around the pipe. I always leave a little droplet underneath (assuming your weld is horizontal) as proof that it’s full. -i know it sounds obvious, but do not any part of the project with your hands when heated. It’s all hot

Or use one continuous length of tubing as it comes off the coil to make a spiral shaped cooler (had it not been hard copper tubing that comes in straight lengths).

This is beyond cool, and the temps achieved were impressive. But I was more impressed by the underwater footage of your pond and the fact it was actually 7 feet deep!

Another great way to prevent a leak would be to have the inside be pressurized slightly. If there is a leak, you will have air leaking out instead of water leaking in, and you can have a pressure sensor that warns if the pressure is going too low

I'd need to be significantly heavier. Another thing is most pc parts will not work 1:1 with increased air pressure. Last more air pressure means more heat. Integrating it would be smart but at the cost of a whole redesign more $$$.

My man, you have aerial drone footage, submersible drone footage, footage from a submersible vessel that is not a vehicle but a complete personal computer with visual feedback temperature instrumentation, plus footage from whatever other gear you have for the tutorial build. Copper itself is a biocide, if you plan to keep it in the pond you could consider to apply a coat of clear varnish on top of it. That may reduce the thermal conductivity though

I came down here to say this. That is partly why there are signs not to toss coins into the ponds at aquariums where there are open water pools.

@@chrisakaschulbus4903 No, Chris, it is a well known fact that copper should not be in marine ecosystems. Don't try to shrug it off. If the water is at all acidic, coper will become ionized, and is quite toxic to fish.

I think this would make a lot more sense with copper gaskets, and an electrically neutral medium or an electrically neutral coating to prevent corrosion, and a positive interior pressure which would help reduce buoyancy and a sealed top so if there is a leak, the natural buoyancy of the system will prevent liquid from entering. Beyond that, this is genuinely incredibly cool. When its got the yellow and dark blue lights going (yellow rim, blue interior) it has a weird aesthetic resembling some of the real quantum computers I've managed to see. Quite surreal.

Just my 2 Cents. You could add a hygrometer and dehumidifier packs. If you closed up the PC in 24°C with 50% Air Humidity, you'll get condensation at around 12°C. Meaning you will have water inside at Fall and Winter. Also you could add a way to increase the Air Pressure inside the capsule, like 1.2 bars. That will help against water ingress.

The capsule is not a pressure vessel, it has an open top to allow the cables through. It'd be very difficult to make a pressure vessel while also allowing those cables to exit

One mistake in the video: at around 14:42 you mention that you don't see any bubbles coming out of the enclosure so it must not be leaking. However you would never see bubbles with a setup like this, even if it was leaking. Because the pipe on top already provides a way for the air to be displaced/escape and water to get into the enclosure. This basically means there is no need for air to get out of the enclosure where the leak is, for water to replace it.

@@RedlineA2Y145Ice would break the pipes quite fast though. Also there's thermal expansion issues, the gaskets could fail in cold water, and the cooling fluid would have to have a lower freezing point than water so there isn't a freezing blockage.

I saw linus' video where he cools his server using his pool and now this. Also, the shot at 15:38 where the PC turns on is weirdly haunting. The metal pipes evoking steampunk vibes, the mercy water in serenity and then suddenly this industrial device steering to life, disturbing the quite with it's magnetic sound. Very cool. Also the pond shots were amazing.

Love the steampunk aesthetic of the copper and "crystal" (aka acrylic) parts, such a beautiful build. And I'm also seriously in love with the laptop, what a fantastic pair of machines they are! Keep up the Perks! Oh and PS: You could alway have put a tube down the main cable entry, filled it with sealant, and added a small aquarium air pump to maintain positive pressure within the chamber, that way leaks would have been evident by bubbles but being positive pressure inside the components wouldn't have been at risk.

You never fail to amaze me. :) A tip from a blacksmith and machinist: If you put a wet rag around solder joints that are close to the thing you want to solder, it won't de-solder and cause a mess of running solder. The recipe for a good solder joint is to clean everything thoroughly as in "A surgeon could operate on the surfaces" clean, then apply flux. Apply heat to the two materials taking into account that the larger piece will draw a lot of heat away. Then carefully "probe" the material with the solder to see if the temperature is hot enough...proceed to solder by letting the solder "wick" into the joint. Work the flame around and let it do the job of soldering your joint fully. Clean...and enjoy your work. ;)

i've noticed that the cooling design resembels the one of the nuclear reactor, where there are two indipendet cooling loops. one in direct contact with the uranium rods which makes the water radioaktice and on the outside a loop with normal water, which turns the turbines and stays clan. thats very neat that you implimentet this in your design!

they can theoretically get wet without damage, so long as they're not powered on until they dry out.

If you test it empty you have to take it apart... so the leak might be introduced while doing that.

Apart from your amazing technical skills, I have always viewed this channel almost as an art channel, since there are few "technical DIY" channels who create such aesthetic builds and videos, but this was on a new level entirely. I am not sure, but I guess there would be many people that would pay unhinged amounts of money to have a pc like that, maybe turn this into a product ;) (among those people, possibly myself included...)

Maybe you should add a umidity sensor inside, as you can calculate condensation on the acrilic walls, and a cap on the top tube for blocking the rain

I was thinking he should add an inert gas into the chamber. Argon or nitrogen. Argon would be best since it is heavier then air (it will stay in the container without having to completely airproof it)

@@anterprites being outside, temperatures can fall below the dew point. When you pour the argon into the container, it should, (I'm no expert) push out the moisture-laden air so when the temperature does drop, there shouldn't be any condensation inside the container that might short out the computer.

it would be nice for a moment for us, but terrible to the fish and other animals, since it could disrupt their circadian clock, and since the logic is to be ecological, doesn't make sense the lights at night ;]

Great build! If you plan to keep using this pc, I suggest pressurizing the inside a bit higher so that if a leak forms, air will go out before water goes in, plus the pressure falling gives you an early leak warning!

I don't think that's good idea. The lower pressure in the chamber is what makes the o-ring create a perfect seal. If anything he should lower the pc deeper in the water for a tighter seal due to the higher water pressure.

The pc has a gaping hole were the wires come in so you can’t pressurise it. Still a good idea and in my opinion the only disappointment of the build. As it makes this pc not actually functional for longterm use

Those gaskets, kinda rely on being compressed to work, pressurizing the chamber will just make it unstable.

The wires into the PC can be sealed to maker the vessel pressure tight. The pressure at the moment is outside pushing in. Having pressure inside the vessel makes perfect sense to keep water out. That's how asbestos masks work, higher pressure inside so particles can NEVER enter the mask. Sinking the vessel deeper just addes to the outside pressure trying to force water in. The gaskets are relying on the top and bottome plate being tight. Nothing to do with inside or outside pressure. As I said, Having an inside pressure will help neautralise the outside pressure. A small soda stream CO2 canister via a reducer will keep a constant controlled pressure. If you see air bubbles in the pond, you know there is a leak way before water ever enters the vessel.

LTT solution is the jankiest thing I have ever seen. But DIY Perks cooler is a work of art (as usual). Using a pool to cool a datacenter is maybe as old as computers, I've known one that was(and still is) cooled by the ornamental pool outside back in the time punch cards were still a thing.

@@mr.destruction2930 LTT is very overrated. They have fallen in the same trap most u-tubers, or for that most media walks in, the need to have something new every day. Ever seen a newspaper with a headline 'nothing happened today so this newspaper intentionally blank'? Neither did I. If there is no news fit to print they make stuff up. But luckily for us there's the magazine format too, do something weekly or monthly and make sure it's good. Might not get as many views but at least it's worth watching.

Keeping a 4090 at 41C is quite a feat. I've got the MSI Suprim Liquid X, and with a 240mm block it still gets pretty toasty (approx 60C) with certain games like Cyberpunk or Starfield.

If you wanted to get rid of the metal pellets, an additional steel plate to act as a bottom to protect the bottom of the copper pipes might be a good way to do it.

Just a suggestion. I would put some kind of water proof barrier on the top where the cables come through. I can just imagine a medium sized bird or a stick landing on this and it’s curtains. Awesome video as always!

There is a simple little water leak detector that's made for going under water heaters or in basements and cellers. You could install one at the bottom to get an instant audible alert on the first sign of leakage. Moreover, if you wanted to be really fancy... take that same alert signal run it thru an arduino or similar programable logic controller that triggers your pulley system to pull the computer out of the water.
