Do you want a luxurious looking home? Of course you do! Do you want to do it quickly and at a low cost?? Now that answer is a definite yes! Well, in today’s video I give you seven tips on how to instantly make your home look luxurious. These tips are based upon 7 features that all luxury homes have in common. If you implement these seven interior design tips, any space will look luxurious and high end. It isn’t always about the products that you put in a space, but about HOW you place those items in a space. This is a video full of genuine examples on how to achieve “the luxe look for less” also known as my specialty, haha. In today’s video we discuss chandeliers, organization, natural light, artificial light, flow, staging, backsplashes, and wall color.
What tip in today’s video was most useful to you? Let’s chat about it in the comments below.

@@653j521 All apartment buildings are able to turn off your electrical for JUST your apartment. If your fusebox isn't IN your apartment then it will be accessible by the superintendent. You might need to coordinate a time with them to flick your switch for an hour but it only takes ten minutes to switch out a light so that's plenty of time. It's actually SUPER easy to do. Just find a youtube tutorial and you'll see how easy it is. And yes, just hold on to the original and put it back before moving out.

MOST of these ideas are renter friendly, just with a few tweaks or thought. I've applied all of these to rentals over the years. The tricky part can be where to put the stuff you are taking out. If you discuss with the landlord about where to store things they may be willing to put things in a basement or furnace room. Any time you upgrade a rental they rarely argue UNLESS it's a strata. Stratas are just evil period.

How design cycles is fascinating. I grew up, as many of my generation, with the living room we called the "museum room" in the front and no one was allowed to live in it. Mom guarded that room with all of her might. It was always impeccable. As I grew up, married and had children, the "great room" was all the rage...knock down the living room wall and have one big room...Now, the living room is back...LoL!! Love your channel because you make style accessible by explaining the principles behind it. Kiva you rock!

Personally ...I decorate my home to make me and my family happy. We live here,we deserve to be in a space we love to be in. We still keep a general vibe in the main living areas but we most definitely have a mid century eclectic style. People who come over like it as well because they say it's comfortable. I've even heard that it reminds someone of being t their grandparents yet modern and stylish. We mix old with new with a dash of curiosities.

We bought a really outdated but structurally sound 120 year old farmhouse. We updated the light fixtures and ceiling fans before we moved in. We also painted all the walls in shades of neutral gray to bring more cohesiveness to the space. We couldn't afford to overhaul the kitchen right off the bat so we painted the cupboards and put up a contact paper (vinyl) backsplash to cover up the untreated beadboard. White trim. Ivory drapes to the floor. Big unique art. Storage pieces with doors and drawers to stash all the clutter. Rugs big enough for the space.

I live in a small home - a mobile home, no less (we are NOT knocking the mobile home. But there are intrinsical structure and build differences! There are also differences in building material, sizing, and flow!) I am currently designing the dream vision for our house, and the FIRST THING I designed was the organization. Organization came *first* - I chose furniture that dual serves as storage, chose lifted or taller furniture to put organization under, as well as taking MAXIMUM advantage of vertical space! I did things like take my ugly extra large dog crate for my fur baby, adding a simple frame and topper to it, painted it, and now it dual serves an under TV console table, while also serving as a table top in our living room! So now we have space for decor and simple design elements, while also housing our baby when we aren't home, or when she sleeps at night! The HARDEST part of it all was designing it to accommodate 5 people. Sizing down furniture was *rough* because I didn't want to sacrifice the quality of comfort for down sizing. We have 5 butts to seat during TV time, 5 butts to seat during dinner time, and 5 heads to lay at night! Our home wasn't designed for 5 people, size-wise. But you figure it out as you go! I also had the concern of making my beautiful home "kid proof" - using matte paint? Not gonna happen! It'd not durable enough for sticky hands, crayons and dirt! Lol Floors? Can't do anything that kids can't spill on in the living room and kitchen,, or splash on in the bathroom. There are design struggles NO MATTER WHAT. You eventually get your sea legs. 🖤🖤 For those that the biggest draw back is financial; do not fret! One piece at a time. One furniture item at a time, one set of dishes at a time. It may take you a year to get your main spaces done, but guess what? You did it! And then you have time to *sit* on the pieces you have and decide If you like them. Just because a furniture piece looks cool, doesn't mean itll function in your space or with your lifestyle! This was a great video for beginners. Keep up the amazing work!

Great video! I totally agree with having manicured rooms. I live in a center hall colonial house: formal living room on one side and formal dining room on the other. Some people believe that I am wasting space since these rooms are not used that often. However, I love them. They are carefully decorated with things that I love and they are beautiful. You are right, these are the rooms that people see when they enter my home and I always receive compliments. I have a comfy family room on the back of the house and I have an eat-in (do people still use that term?) kitchen that we live in. I just love knowing that I have these other beautiful spaces to entertain guests. It works for me. Everyone has to find what fits their lifestyle and gives them pleasure.

A former neighbour of mine who is a builder and does renovationprojects told me that one way to trick the eye to an airy feel is to have the paint from the ceiling reach down at the walls a decimeter or two. This might be pointless if you already have high ceiling but it makes some difference if you live in a standard apartment or a parcelhouse built with energyconsumption costs in thought, like the 70s "parcelhouse" or afterwards where the room tend to have a boxy feel.

My grandma has the staged front living room. It was for the Christmas tree and other special things. We spent most time in the family room with the TV and fireplace.

I am totally in love with you and soooo grateful for your endless ideas and tips. you make so much sense!!! Have to say though that the cricut letters on your towels looked seriously tacky... embroidered monogrammed properly would look so much better.
