I used a set of behringer 415 dsp for years and they sounded better than my mackies,peaveys,and various different brands I've tried. People online blast them based on stuff they've read online,but haven't actually heard them in action. they have amazing bass response and sound very clear at most levels. Very decently priced as well. I still use them for smaller gigs( backyard stuff,etc)or as monitors.I bought a set of qsc kw153s tops and subs and I will never go back to anything else as my main rig. Don't let reviews completely influence your decision. Try as many brands out as possible and find something that suits you. But if you can afford,I highly recommend anything from qsc, jbl p series stuff,and the new cerwin vega stuff. Ev is good too,but from my experience,it doesn't produce as much bass without a sub as these others

Do you reckon the Odyssy Table or the Novopro equivalent could withstand the weigh of a dual cd player +5 channel mixer inside a flight case if placed on the top or would the weight of the entire thing make the table fall over or buckle?

You raised the speakers way too high, supposed to be at ear level. Use the center of the 15" Full Range speaker as your guide for ear level, the horn is supposed to go over the peoples heads. This way your music sounds louder than if the speakers were on the floor. I am sure it sounds great, in larger areas you may need a bass bottom. It will make a big difference. Good luck with your gigs. Cheers!

The NS7 II is now out which has a ton of added features like a four channel mixer and touch sensitive pads. The biggest downside to the NS7 is the weight. The unit weighs 50 pounds, add 30 for the case and you're at a back-breaking 80 pounds. If you can do without the moving platters you should consider the pioneer ddj-sx at 16 pounds.

Pricing depends on your market. Call around to some of your competition (or have a friend call) & ask them their prices for an event. You want to price yourself in the middle of the pack or lower when you are starting out. Also price yourself based on your experience. Be honest with your clients & tell them you are "relatively new" and are building your business but will work with them & their budget. They will understand. If they want HIGH END, you are not their DJ (yet). Don't over promise or you will be on youtube as "that guy" who ruined our event & your reputation will be trashed. Start small at cheaper gigs & work your way up. Better to screw up a 14 year old birthday party in front of 40 kids than it is a wedding day in front of 250 people.

@Michael I've been using the foldable Odyssey stands since they came out, I have the 33" for my big coffin & the 24" with no top, which is perfect for my controller case, I'm a bit worry about the hazard those sharp corners present to a small child on the model you're using, I would recommend a facade to keep people from hurting themselves. Good luck, and be safe.
@MichaelHolmes777
@MichaelHolmes777 8 жыл бұрын
Hey Manny. Great advice. I was thinking those are more aesthetic and hadn't considered the safety aspect. I know this setup pretty much put me at capacity for my small suv (Chevy Equinox) , do you use a larger car for your gigs?
@mannyr.8977
@mannyr.8977 8 жыл бұрын
I have a Full size pick up Truck with a topper, and I also have a medium trailer, I can haul my gear with, anything bigger than that, somebody else is setting up, i work for three different event companies now days, so I do a lot of plug and play gigs, is easier on me. For the most part anything over 200 people somebody else is taking care of the audio. My main setup for smaller rooms is my EV's ETX-15P, than I go to my OPA-15 for more push, and for bigger events I use the my Yorkvilles which are heavy, but with the LS801P & EF500P I can do large events. Most of my DJ friends use Minivans, they have a low clearance (fit in any parking garage), and are also easy to load heavy stuff vs.a pickup truck, trailers are a pain in the ass in most big hotels, because of parking, if you can find a used Ford Transit van, or an old dodge caravan for cheap you can fit your gear in and out easily and fast. If you get bigger events consider renting a vehicle that will fit gear for that event, remember you need a return on what ever your investment is. Good Luck, and alway think safety, people are always looking to blame anyone for negligence.

Awesome video! I really want to start becoming a dj. I already have a job and I am saving, but I have a couple questions. Why do most djs use mac books? And does it have to be the newer one or could it be older? And is this equipment you have good for beginners? I'd really appreciate some help
@player1o1
@player1o1 9 жыл бұрын
I did a little research and this is what i found out.Btw i was also trying to find out why also and i did.Many DJs choose Macs because they just want something to do the job needed to be done by a computer in a digital DJ set-up, something that does it with the minimum of fuss. Macs fit the bill, because OS X is often felt to be an easier operating system to use that Windows for non-expert users.With a Mac you are guaranteed a high standard of construction, and they have universal audio drivers so you don't need to mess around installing ASIO drivers to get your computer's sound card to work with them, as you have to for some hardware when using it with a PC. Macs are also pretty much free of computer viruses, unlike Windows.

I love your air powered speaker stands, can you share the make and model. I see nothing wrong with Behringer speakers. I have been victim of plenty of DJs whos music sounded like crap either because they wired things wrong, pushed their speakers to hard, had crappy Mp3s, etc. I use a Behringer mixer and Eurolive B215Ds with no sub and I constantly receive complements about the quality of my sound. Expensive gear does not = experience and attention to detail.

The third speaker was more of a backup because one had broken. It was covered under warranty, but took forever to get back. This setup worked well for a majority of the parties I did and should handle an average room with around 50 people.

Depends on your budget. A good low cost controller is the Numark Mixtrack Pro $180. If comes with Serato DJ Intro which is $129 to upgrade to the full version of the program. Most of the cheap dj controllers have this hidden cost of LE software. If you've got a bit more money you can get a controller with the full version of Serato DJ bundled like the NS6, VCI 300 or DDJ-SR. Amazon is a good place to shop. I'm working on a website for beginner djs at www.beginnerdjequipment.com. Feel free to shoot me any other questions you have.

Your question is where to find a music library? You can ask a dj for one or look for an ad in craigslist for djs selling their libraries. Another option is subscription services or recrod pools. A lot of software comes the option of music library subscriptions such as Virtual dj, serato and pulselocker, or alogoriddim djay and spotify pro

What's a good start up package for all the equipment that I will need...like speaks and other stuff? Where do I go to buy that stuff?
@MichaelHolmes777
@MichaelHolmes777 8 жыл бұрын
Well you can start with the links in the description of the video (I get small referral fee but it doesn't cost you more). You're gonna need basically everything there. I'd recommend swapping out the ns7 for a lightweight and cheaper controller like an sb2 (video below). Total cost should be around $1,000 for speakers, controller, stands (don't need powered), table (any table), plus whatever laptop you use it doesn't have to be a mac. If you have the money to spend go with some of the premium stuff like the air powered speaker stands. I had cheap ones at first and they broke. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbSdhZWFs5rSZnU.html This is my other channel's sb2 review: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oNZgpNeckuDSj3U.html Good luck.

Madeon started at age 11. He's more of a producer which might be a good move b/c its not like you're going to be let into a night club to play underage unless you're famous. If you want a controller try and scrape together $150 for a numark Mixtrack Pro. If you're on a really tight budget you can just use your computer. Google "open source DJ software" and "open source DAW". I've never used either of those programs. Let me know how it goes!

I like your speakers stand. I don't like the speakers, I had a pair of white B215 and they only had 225 rms power. I sell them and buy B115 mp3, and there I feel 500w rms power. You must low a bit the speakers, they must be same level as head. The only situation you must up above is if the room is too big and your sound isn't strong for all room. Continue improve your setup and lights, and good gigs 😉

@MichaelHolmes777 8 жыл бұрын
+Ezduztube Yup, pc works OK if you're on a budget and know what you're doing. You sound pretty knowledgeable and would know what pc to buy to Dj. Others may not and might get some shitty netbook with an atom processor. Plus pc guys always fail to calculate total cost of ownership. They require a lot more maintenance and have almost no resale value. I just sold the Mac in this video a couple months ago. A six year old laptop and still got $435.

I will never like the laptop stand that everyone uses. I understand that it’s a standard thing now but I’m the type of guy that would come up with a more concealed method of using it. It just looks completely unprofessional to me, like having a spaghetti mess of cables hanging of the back of the DJ console. Everything else looks great.

Yeah this video is a bit dated, but I just launched www.djsort.com . It allows you to sort dj controllers by 30 different features. Having bundles on there isn't a bad idea!

dude your speakers are way too high up, you want the bottom of your speakers at about shoulder height of your audience, otherwise the high end sounds will just go completely over them. the behringer speakers you have are nice and decent quality, but your audience will hear garbage if they're that high.

+mesh beck This is probably more of a Prosumer setup. "Dj Equipment for Prosumers" is not a better title. I would advise anyone looking at hardware controllers that come with Serato Intro to spend the extra money to get something that comes with Serato DJ. The intro controllers are just sample ware and you have to spend money to unlock to the full version of Serato and will be limited in the number of controls you can use. serato.com/dj-intro/upgrade

+Michael Holmes the title is perfect Imo if your not going to invest in yourself properly, how can you expect to turn a profit? You only get out what you put in I prefer traktor pro 2 But it's still the same mission of having a proper setup to facilitate an event and look professional

+mesh beck It's all relative. His mixer is pricey compared to a mixtrack pro, but not compared to other setups. A pioneer setup can run six grand, easy. His speakers are about as cheap as you can go for some good quality speakers. Lights are basic, but good. The awesome fancy table is the only thing he has that most beginners would not have invested in yet. This is a basic, but professional mobile DJ setup.

Michael: The comments from some of these characters are hilarious, and not in a good way. I call these guys, MARKET CHARACTERS. They are the ones the other DJs in town roll their eyes when their names are mentioned. Even bad restaurants have customers and stay in business. These guys are the ones always criticizing other DJs at the drop of the hat. Good work, Michael, on your videos. To you clowns out there who can't spell or write in a coherent fashion, and are perpetually angry or jealous, I AM LAUGHING AT YOU!

I'll never understand the argument for buying substandard anything. So you're saying because you're just starting you have money to buy a cheap laptop then go back and spend more on something that works? Just look at the resale value of MacBook vs PC laptops. Check out my other video comparing $50 speaker stands that break into pieces vs $200 per pair. Look at all the crap dj controllers in the sub $200 range that don't even come with the full version of Serato. The more you spend the more you save.

+pizza hat kid I think you'll see a lot of the comments here are arguing for better equipment then what's in the video. This is the minimum setup I'd expect to see if I was paying for a DJ. Any less and I'd wonder why I was paying when I could just put on Spotify with whatever speakers I have laying around the house. I guess the better title would be "DJ Equipment For Beginner Mobile DJ", but its a bit lengthy. I'm never going to apologize for encouraging people to buy the best equipment they can afford because there is so much JUNK out there. I'm going to make a video soon on the Djay pro app which is ok if you have no money and wanna start playing around, but it's still going to be on a MacBook Pro!

MacBook is way over rated. I had one to crap out on me when I first started and I bought a dell latitude now 5 yrs running windows 7 professional that I paid 100 dollars for on ebay. And the rest of it is pretty much a beginners setup the controller is not really a beginners controller but if it is a ns7 . And behringer speakers are very good I use to wood box 12's the 1220's and then I run a 3000 watt amp for my 18 inch sub also a behringer and a 1000 watt for my tops wich is the 1220's I run a pioneer ddjsb2 controller a 8 channel control board cause I also do karaoke 2 derbys 2 lasers 4 bubble lights and a moonflower . And as far as having speakers over the heads I just have the horns above the head. 6 ft up anyway.

+Justaboringteen Oh ok. That makes more sense. I made a video on how to dj with just a laptop. That's pretty budget friendly. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtmqldeEvb21ZaM.html Stay tuned as I'm starting a new channel which will review consumer products and I'm going to have reviews of the Mixtrack/mixtrack pro, Hercules, Launchpad, and SB2 and a bunch of tech stuff.
@MichaelHolmes777
@MichaelHolmes777 8 жыл бұрын
+Justaboringteen I started with the NS7. If I had to stay in a budget I might get the Mixtrack pro 3 or SB2. Even those aren't that great because you get the limited version of Serato DJ. The cheapest controller with full version of Serato DJ is the DDJ SR @$580. A good option might be to get an older controller with full Serato used. You can pick up a used VCI 300 for $265. I'm gonna add that to my review list. I wonder how it stacks up against the current mixtrack pro 3. VCI 300 - amzn.to/1oywvpf (affiliate link) Just go thru the serato hardware page and make sure you're getting something which is "enabled" and not "upgrade ready". serato.com/dj/hardware/controllers

+Justaboringteen Hey buddy! I started just like anyone else. With a tight budget. Bought myself a macbook pro (700$). Downloaded music like a mad person so I can be prepared. Got a Pioneer SB when it first came out. Later on a studio monitor.. An audio interface.. Recording microphone. Foam for the monitors. Sold the sb, bought a XDJ-RX. 2 harbinger 600 watts each. The stands, and now focusing on lights.. You obviously can't buy everything all at once. It takes time.. But worth it at the end! Don't give up :)
