Hello from Phoenix, Arizona. I was a a mobile DJ when I was 18. I did a lot of eighth grade dances, and Mormon dances. Several weddings.

Shocked these kids knew all those classics... I really don't even DJ kids parties anymore mainly because most want songs that aren't even played on the radio... They'll asked you to play a song off there phone and it's usually a unedited version..
@DJGeoffJohnson3 жыл бұрын
Right! I only probably played less than half the requests thrown at me - and they were coming fast and furious by the end of the evening. Many I didn't have, some were just not playable for a dance (mood killers). Luckily I had my 7th grade son with me to help navigate the requests.

amazing the staying power of some of that music. i never would have guessed.

I know right! I played many of those 30-40 years ago and never thought I’d be playing them to 14 year old kids this many years later.

Thanks! Absolutely right, hard to keep them engaged at that age. My video display was a hit, if not a mild hypnosis for some. 😁

Nice to see another gray hair DJ rocking the crowd. I love this tube. I'm thinking about the Mesa booth, how is your workload running the video as well?
@DJGeoffJohnson2 жыл бұрын
Mesa booth is nice. Quick setup but shelves are metal and heavy. Playing videos is the same as MP3’s, but computer needs to have a fast processor, good video card and lots of memory to keep up with the larger file size.

seems like totem mode still doesn't hit right down on the dance floor in front of your set up... i watched the video where the poster mentioned that chauvet obviously meant for their spots to be hung upside down... now, seeing this I believe he's on to something.
@DJGeoffJohnson3 жыл бұрын
Thanks - I have both spots aimed a little higher up to hit the kids and the back wall during their sweeps. The left spot had an issue about half way thru the night (probably a dmx issue with the ipad) but I didn't have time to reboot everything. The only time totem mode is active is during auto, but they still go up to the ceiling at times.

How long foes it take you to setup the prox mesa booth? What are your thoughts on it? Been thinking about getting it
@DJGeoffJohnson3 жыл бұрын
It only takes about 5 - 10 minutes to set up. It’s great if you want to put a large video display on the front of your booth. But it is heavy, mostly the metal shelves, built to be sturdy. I bought a slim mount for my tv display, it’s lighter and mounts the tv closer to the booth.

People have been asking for the links to the products you use for djaying and you have not added them to any of your videos.

Can you display the playlist you used for that evening?

Honest question, did you get in trouble for the Truth Hurts part? I didn't expect that 😅
@DJGeoffJohnson2 жыл бұрын
No trouble - that was the radio edit/clean version, however middle/high school kids know the lyrics, and they will tend to sing them when in a group setting. I always warn the teachers/parents of this, and they are usually ok with it. Elementary dances are a lot different - must play super clean songs for that.

@@DJGeoffJohnson I’m sorry for the confusion…I meant video files on your computer/hard drive, not on this particular YY video. I thought about video mixing.
@DJGeoffJohnson2 жыл бұрын
@@schhim82 ah, sorry for the misunderstanding - I have about 600 music videos to select from, but usually end up playing about 75-80 percent videos versus mp3s. There are several songs, especially oldies that do not have existing videos, so I play a shader through Virtual DJ for those. For weddings I put the couples’ monogram on the display for the formal dances and switch to videos during open dance. Thanks!
