He’s smart. He went international because hip hop doesn’t last forever. You’re only guaranteed a few years on top. Only a few have been able to stay relevant for more than 2-5 years. JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, Drake, Rick Ross, Fabolous are some examples. They all have at least 10 years or more of consistent material that kept them relevant.
