Got my first residency in the 80's by doing these same steps. No social media back then. You had to put in "face time" for real 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

I started learning to dj this summer and first went to the local clubs in July with the intentions of networking with the club culture and experiencing the social atmosphere. I talked to as many djs as I could and I started following one around. He became my mentor and is the reason I got my first gig a local club for the whole night and now I have my second gig this weekend. Hoping I get booked regularly! Can’t thank you enough for all of your help. Wouldn’t know to do anything without watching your videos!

I’ve watched over thousands of KZfaq videos and this will probably be the only comment I ever make : you are the man! Thanks so much for all the information you provide and the great attitude you have towards Dj’ing and life in general. You’ve helped me tremendously. Thank you🤝

I got my residency by playing in another country every weekend for 3 months straight. Sometimes spontaneous but most of the time because crowds love me. And I was really giving everything to club and I still do ❤️ But residency isn’t just being there from the beginning to end. You really need to be ready to do anything anytime. To be 100% from the beginning to end (and we are open from 10.00 pm to 8 am and I still play last two hours like from the first day). Sometimes you are bartender sometimes security. So you need to be ready all the time. But it is worth it 😁

Got my first residency being a bartender at a club first! I got in really tight with the staff, managers promoters etc. Even the DJ became my really good friend, he was looking for different opportunities and I brought it up to him and the rest is history!

I've met so many Djs that think they're awesome, but have very little craft. No effects, no beat matching just banging tracks left and right with no flow no crowd work🤦‍♂️ and the personalities akin to a wet mop. Stay humble practice your sets and remember manners cost nothing. Awesome video bruv thanks for your insights.

Well I got my first residency recently and it was basically just walking into one of my favourite clubs that I've been a regular for several years and speaking with the people there and when I say the people I mean everyone I knew, the other customers I knew, the bartenders, the managers and really putting my interest out there and after a few months they called me in for a trial show and now I'm currently the main resident DJ

On a side note, contacting venues to run events with them as a collaborative effort is also great to let the venue know you're willing to risk your own resources too

I really enjoy your videos btw, I'm actually a diff type of DJ and ik some may find it funny xd but I actually am a twitch DJ that plays for clubs in a MMO called Final Fantasy 14. Been doing it for bit over a year and even after a year i'm still learning things and so far watched a couple your videos and they have been very informative and on top of that you seem so cool and chill. IDK but every Aussie I worked with in my community has all been the same.. so cool and laid back and just wanna hangout with and have a beer or 2 and just play music. Appreciate you very much!

Also to your question, again this is for FF14 as I just got my 1st residency recently it really comes down to your vibe and how well your skill and how you play and how engaging you are to the viewers. Knowing venue owners really helps as well and networking with diff people in the scene. Also to note some venues can be specific genres they specialize in and will give residencies to those DJ's that play those styles.

Hi Andrew, great video. I'm currently working through your advanced course. Yes, if you could please do a short video with some tip for the DJs that don't really want a regular residency in the club scene (I'm over 40 and just don't have the energy to go clubbing every week!), but want to play at 3-4 big parties/events a year, it would be much appreciated!

yeah m8 i was thinking the same thing, i'm 43 cant be arsed with clubbing every weekend all my favourite clubs and events closed years ago and tbh the scene in my city is dead, ive been thinking about getting into radio ,my local station is on the verge of closing down because they cant afford too upgrade their transmitter, maybe i could help them out with funds and demand a weekly slot in return. or i could just wait and let them go bust and then take over the station for myself. i studied radio djing for a year at college so i kinda know what i'm doing in regards too doing a radio show.

Oh I miss those days of being a regular at an amazing club. It sucks so bad how noise complaints from a new apartment block can get a 10 year established club shut down overnight :'(

Some great advice here. My biggest issue of the scene is getting paid properly. A tremendous amount of promoters, bar owners and other djs think doing it for free is acceptable. Or just taking the cash😄😄 Some tips on that would be an excellent video.

fuck that, if that shit happend too me i would be walking off with one of their cdjs either that or pour a pint over their mixer. i wouldnt accept that as a tradie i definetly wouldnt put up with it as a dj.

I really want to get into the techno dj scene after about a year of raving in clubs every weekend. I feel as a Techno DJ it is the opposite in a way that people want to hear bangers that they have never heard before. Would you agree?
