Delanie and DJ are from the same area in California and immediate hit it off. DJ talks about what it was like transferring from Clemson, his conversation with Dabo, life before and after NIL, and his expectations for the season.
Patrick hops on the pod right after DJ and we get a look into exactly how he gained his notoriety so fast. Let's just say you have to be a different breed to do what Patrick did in his first game.

Doing almost no research on your podcast guests is ... something. Didn't know if DJ played Colorado. Didn't know if he won or lost. Didn't know his coaching staff at Oregon State left. And almost not a single question about this year's team. You've got good guests but would love some more effort put into the questions.

I figured most knew DJ’s history. Cali kid, folks debated whether he or Bryce Young was the #1 QB for the ‘20 class, (debate over) couldn’t quite stay consistent at Clemson. Though to be fair, Dabo refused to get him help via the portal but gave his own son a scholarship to play the extremely important FG holder……… As for FSU, 10 were drafted and won 13 games last season so I’d take the under.

Yall shouldn’t have gone. You can’t lose to UGA so embarrassingly bad after Bama beat ‘em/controlled the whole SECCG and say “we should’ve been there.” Bama, Mich, UGA, Texas, Washington and Oregon were all better than FSU with or without the 1st string QB.

@@imagodei9366 ‘cept i def did. Not only do I live in Savannah and was a fan of Luke Kromenhoek, but I’m a huge college football fan in general. Y’all were losing by a point to an awful UF team going into the 4th Q, could barely score on a Louisville team that lost to/gave up 38 points to Kentucky, had to take Clemson into OT, struggled against Miami and barely won against an awful B.C. team and were boo’ed by yall’s own fans during the game. The game that I watched the least amount of was the UGA game because it was so laughable I had to turn it off. It’s not just me who says those teams were better than FSU. That’s basically a quote from Kirk Herbstreit. You gonna say Kirk watched zero FSU games? 😒 Yall weren’t a top 4 team, get over it. The fact Bama was a stop away from beating Michigan and more than likely winning the NC proves Bama should’ve gotten that 4th spot, that it was easily the correct call. Sounds to me like you only watched FSU games.

@louieo.blevinsmusic4197 - Yep. All of this proves is you can watch highlights. Watching full games matter because you can see how strategies develop. There is a reason so many in the industry (coaches and players) were disgusted by the decision. And many of them were not related to FSU. You also conviently did not talk about Bama's season and why they lost to Texas, why they struggled with USF, and why they needed a hail mary play to beat a bad Auburn team. And if you did know so much about FSU, you wouldn't have used the UF game as your litmus test. Did you know about the league offices issuing an apology for the pf call that led to UF's only touchdown? If you are such a big fan, you would have been able to concede that Washington struggled throughout the season, Bama struggled, and Georgia struggled. The only team that didn't was Michigan. Kirk gets it wrong alot. He also got caught being overly excited about Bama winning in the Plains, which if they hadn't would have made them a 2 loss team and taken them out of the discussion entirely. That would have also taken Texas put of the discussion. They knew Saban was retiring. It was a money thing. I won money off of betting at the beginning of the season, Saban would retire. He gets to keep his office in Bryant Denny and work on College Gameday, which paid billions to host the College Football Playoff. If you really knew College football, then you would know that some committee members knew they shouldn't do it but felt coerced. But, back to my point, you didn't watch FSU play. If you did, you would not have written your previous statement. 😂

My favorite part of the Snub was the committee got to use the excuse that we are a "different team"...EXACTLY. and we kept winning. That was actually FSU's argument but it got flipped... If thats not a complete team then idk what is. If JT went down and we lost then absolutely, take us out of the conversation. But the fact is we went in with two different QB's trying to figure it out. The offense wasnt great but the defense was LIGHTS OUT. What it taught me was that you should let the other team score as many points as possible, just make sure you win. Scoring puts asses in the seats. People think a 50-40 game is a great game. No, thats just two shit defenses.

I think my biggest question with NIL is, how do they determine their worth when they haven’t played a down in the league?

Comes down to what teams are willing to pay them. But then there are situations where teams get shady with it, taking a kid who every other team is willing to pay $200k and going under the table and offering them "$500k" so the kid decides to hop in the portal/starts talking about hopping in the portal, but then when the kid actually gets the contract, it's got some shady shit in it like "$150k base, $100k if you have >10 sacks, $100k if team makes national championship, $50k if you stay for year 2, $75k if you choose XYZ management company to represent you, etc etc", while the $200k schools are offering all $200k guaranteed. And then some schools will have other sketchy terms like only paying 10% up front, 2.5% per month for months 1-11 and then 62.5% in month 12, but if you want you can take a loan from that 62.5% but you've gotta pay it back with 8% interest, and that changes to 22% interest if you enter the portal, 17% interest if you stay but you have less than 7 sacks, etc". And other stuff too - some teams offer gross up payments to cover state/federal income tax while others don't, some states don't have state income tax, some schools will pay monthly while others do lump sum or quarterly, and on and on. So it gets super complicated to read through all the fine print and determine which is actually the best offer.
