Geoff said that this is probably his favorite cover that he's done. He has a 5 octave range and I swear he could sing the phone book and I would gladly sit and listen!

That's partly his arranging skills: if he did the phone book, it would have amazing harmony, interesting countermelodies, innovative rhythm changes, perfect syncopation, killer runs, ... He might even write a bridge for it, if it needs one.

"Emotional Damage" is so, soooo true. This man brings up ALL the emotions, beats them over your head like an Asian mother's slipper, then wraps you up in a giant fuzzy blanket and reassures you that you're okay.

If I'm not mistaken this is filmed like Blackbird in Geoff and Kathys' living room. He was just getting a good start on his KZfaq channel. This is only his fifth individual cover. I love his credits on this video. So funny.

This is the only cover he's done without harmony. There's some layering, but it's just him. You're man-crushing while I'm fan-girling. The man is astonishing! You could try a real goof ball cover - Saddle Up.

I'm so glad I was able to get you a listen to this sooner rather than later💜 I love this one so much bc it's pretty much just one of him and a keyboard. Geoff's range is jaw dropping, but Cesar and Eli have the same 5 octave range they just start a bit higher. It's Layne that actually has the widest range in the group. He hit a A0 (last white key on a piano and one lower than Geoff) as an inhale note right at the end of SH-Boom, and a C#6 (!!!!) as a sound effect in ACA Top 10 Disney Villains during the Aristocats section. They ALL are so amazing but when you put them together it's just plain magic!

I'm with you, his voice sounds so amazing and rich in all his range. Yes, the deep bass is impressive, but the rich tones of his voice is what really seals the deal.

Glad you loved this it's still one of my favourites. It doesn't get as much notice as it should imo partly because Sixteen Tons came out about a month later & really took off.

This is my favorite Geoff song/video. I don't have any reference for this song being used during sad scenes in shows. I've never really thought of it as a sad song myself, more like a pleading; don't be pulled in by the material, superficial, fake things in this world. Those things take away from your happiness. Stay over here with me where things are real, and don't leave me high and dry by abandonding me for the former. Anytime I want to feel calm and relaxed, I listen to this. I always never want this song to end. I think that out of all his songs, this one, with the combination of the lyrics and Geoff's voice and arrangement, melts my insides more than anything else.

I started learning to play piano when I was about 9 when friends of my parents replaced their piano, and gave us their old one along with lessons. I can’t read sheet music well, but I can learn one hand at a time (either by ear or with music) and then put them together so I can eventually play the whole song from memory. After my dad died a few years later, I took guitar in summer school using his big oversized guitar, which looked pretty silly considering how small I was. Once she saw that I was actually sticking with it, my mom got me a guitar that was a better fit. After taking it with me to summer camp twice, my next summer trip was hiking. So I taught myself to play the harmonica since the guitar was too big to lug over a mountain. What I find interesting is that while I can sing while playing the guitar, I can neither sing nor talk while playing the piano no matter how well I know the song I’m playing. I also haven’t mastered singing while playing the harmonica for some reason. 🤪

When I get in a morose mood, I tend to listen to Chopin. Particularly Op. 28 No. 15. If you think playing piano and singing is impressive, check out a pipe organ performance some time. They'll be playing with both hands going back and forth between two different keyboards, while also playing on the lower keyboard with their feet. And then they set it up so one of the upper keyboards either does or doesn't also activate the _third_ upper keyboard, depending on how far down the keys are pressed. Depending on which stops are pulled, each keyboard can operate a different combination of pipes, producing a different combination of sounds...
