Even airline pilots dont HAVE to check NOTAMs. It is there to be used at your own discretion to alert yourself of any potential hazards that may be encountered during your flight. Also you literally checked your NOTAMs via drone assist at 13:05 just you didn't know the jargon (which is what he expected clearly)
