On the release day of the Air 3 I bought an Air 2S because it was heavily discounted and as soon as I saw the specs of the Air 3 and that it had a smaller sensor I thought "no, not interested". I was hugely impressed with image quality of the Air 2S but was disappointed with the battery life and although I didn't have any accidents, the lack of side sensors was more of a concern than I anticipated. Then having watched many KZfaq videos about the Air 3 and all the advantages it had over the Air 2S and that it had a stacked sensor and nobody seemed to be saying the image quality was a step backwards, I couldn't resist getting one. I've had the Air 3 for a couple of weeks now and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the general image quality of the 24mm lens in comparison to the Air 2S, it just looks sort of like when you zoom/crop just to point where it looks noticeably worse. When I first saw the footage I had to check double I had actually recorded in 4K and wasn't zoomed in. The thing is though I think the general image quality of the 70mm lens is much better than the 24mm which is strange because I believe it has an identical sensor, my only guess it's down to the aperture, although I've never noticed adjusting aperture down to make that much of a difference to image quality on my proper camera. It's a shame because the Air 3 beats the Air 2S in so many other ways, I guess they have to save something they know they can improve with the the Air 3 Pro.

I think the Air 3 is a stepping stone drone.... paving the way for the Air 3S which will have the sensor it deserves....

This is a case of don't believe the hype. DJI seem to have lost the way with regards to what a drone is all about AKA the camera. If they can make a drone fly further and faster and last longer in the air then that should come second, It shouldn't be used as a plus to buy. It's the same with the "New" Mini 4 if you dont own a mini then it's something to look at for sure,But it's massively overpriced in my opinion. This makes the older version a no brainer. The Air 3 is a 12meg camera the still picture quality is naff. The Air2s sits alongside the Mavic 3 pro in ways of picture quality shooting Raw. JPG the software tends to over process the image,but that nothing you can't undo very easily.

I appreciate the examples you showed here of tele lens use. I will keep your tips in mind as I fly this weekend. I use the 70 mm lens on my Air 3 for part of the session almost every time I fly. Cheers from Wisconsin and I will be on the alert for your channel announcement.

Hey Ian take you for the video as always. I wish DJI would update the 70mm on the Mavic 3 Pro to have the same ability to use 70mm lens for slow motion at 4k@120fps and 1080p@200fps like you can with the Air 3.

Hi Ian, I sold my Mavic 3 on ebay a few weeks ago. She's gone to War, bought by a Ukrainian chap in London 😢. I bought a Mavic 3Pro as a replacement, as always I'm interested in the camera and lens.

Zoom compresses. That I learned almost 50 years ago using a 300 mm tele lens making far water look like a 1600 moat to a fortress up on a hill. Using some, 4.5 x magnification the drone flew more far away from the target then expected. It went like this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hL-jpcR9utCqkn0.html
