I really recommend hooking your controller up to a pc and playing a drone sim. You can go wild and get a ton of practice to get the muscle memory down. Helped me a TON

Im using dji avata for 2 years now have avata 2 still i have huuuge respect for fpv drivers most of them dont even have safety features like this this lift off and fly down on their own thats amazing skill to do that :(

As others have said, simulators on the PC are incredibly helpful. I can tell you the ONE concept, though, that took me a while to understand, but once it clicked, everything started making more sense: For turning, you need to push BOTH sticks left or both sticks right. Once you get that, you'll start being able to turn and keep the horizon flat. From there, it's just a matter of coordinating differing amounts of inputs on both sticks to turn slower or faster. I learned the manual mode without using a sim. First i just went as high as bossible and had my finger on the pause button in case i lose control. When i got some confidence, i got lower and lower. Now i can confidently fly near the ground.

Always, always use a Sim first - you need a good few hours of practice before the basics start becoming muscle memory.

Anyone considering flying manual manual mode should first practice on a sim like Liftoff first.

I recommend building and flying your own quadcopter (freestyle drone). You learn to understand so much more about FPV, and when you crash, components are cheap to replace.

It's worth doing some practice in a sim. You fly a drone completely differently in manual. The controls dont do the same things, and it's work figuring out what they actually do before risking your drone :)

You might want to be aware that you were flying in the class D airspace of Van Nuys airport with some of the busiest jet and helicopter operations in California. You cannot get a clearance in that spot with LAANC as it’s restricted down to the surface.

You flew into the flight path of the airport! There is a model aircraft field with a drone flying field literally less than one mile from where you are right now.

Great video, I've yet to get that controller, looks an entirely different experience. Just been using the motion controller 3 in manual, obviously not the same. Definitely looks a buzz though.

I gave up some time ago with the dji fpv in acro mode but i give the avata 2 another chance. Did i say giving the avata another chance? No, i'm the stupid one that was unable to learn to fly FPV. So i'll give myself another chance. Nice video.

A sim isn’t necessary. Fly high and then switch to manual and practice, then fly lower when you’re ready.

Drone controller setups are weird. How about having the same control scheme as in , say, Gta 5 when flying helicopters?

You should hook up to a sim. I just got my Avata 2 yesterday But I bought the controller 3 weeks before buying the drone. I used it witn TrypFPV and DRL sim in the weeks up until I got the Avata 2. It was a big help but ngl I still have the jitters in Manual mode IRL. The adrenaline has my nerves shot in minutes, and I have to land and take a break 😂

This is probably why DJI did not include the controller 3 in a bundle.

Note to self, when trying for the first time find a overgrown field, not concrete for possible crash.

You're teaching yourself to fly manual mode, and you chose to do this over concrete? Find a field full of weed growth so at least you stand some chance of reducing crash damage.

I litterally face palm the moment you put it into manual mode. 🤦🤦🤦 Lack of sim and put right away into manual mode is the best recipe for disaster. I suggest that you go for a day of sim training, then go for the real one. It won't be hard as you thought once you got the fundamentals correct.
