Thanks mate! Since i started flying with DIYs, always felt that music gives a good edit, even if its just simple flights. Im using Epidemic Sound (links in the description, shameless plug), but as long as u match good cuts of the footage with a tune to match the feel of the music, it just flows. Sometimes I actually choose the music first b4 flying, just to have a direction for the edit. And simple tip : cut at the beats of the music. It will all fall in place🙏🏽. Is there a downside to leaving it on the charger? I would think it would be able to discharge/recharge on the charging docks. No where does it say to or to not do it on their website for the battery or the charger.
@TheReelRahim
@TheReelRahim 2 жыл бұрын
I cant say for sure, but in electronics, i personally dont do it with all my electronic items. I have this fear that it will excessively wear out the electronics. PLUS i wanna avoid excessive recharging when a discharging occurs. Just safe practices of handling lipo batteries.
@TheReelRahim

Oh and , the charger has no discharge function. Therefore discharging only occurs off the charging ports. Also will reduce risk of lipo explosion.

Here you address a question I'm sure many will wish to have a definitive answer to. All things RC have been my hobby for over a decade now, and over the years, I have sought a decisive answer based on empirical data regarding this aspect of LiPo batteries. Yes everyone seem to agree about 50% charge level would be good for storage. Therefore I do believe that. But after this many years in the hobby, I still am unsure if I really would need to charge my batteries to 50% if I do not plan to store them for a long period of time. I fly all kinds of RC models (helis, planes, jets, flying wings, racing drones) - both LOS and FPV. And I also have been flying DJI FPV for over an year now and own 8 of those expensive smart batteries. I leave them without re-charging untill I go flying next time. Because I fly so many things RC, my DJI smart batteries sometimes may stay in 25-30% charge state for about a month or so. My assumption is that since I do not discharge them below the 20% critical charge level and also because I know I will not store them too long for them to self discharge to the level that will destroy them, a week in tgatvchargevstate will not hurt them. I have watched countless number of videos and read so much about LiPo batteries in order to understand how to use and take care of them. But I still find no answer that fits all scenarios - probably because there is none. I would appreciate if you can help me educate myself on this because I am still unsure of how to take care of my DJI smart batteries based on the way I use them. If I plan to store them for an extended period of time, then surely I would follow your advice. But re-charging if I plan to go flying next week or so may mean I would unnecessarily shorten the battery life-span. I wish to know if my thinking is foolish. Please help.
@TheReelRahim

I understand the issue here. Same sentiments. There is no firm answer on this, but lets make some presumptions and guidelines. As im creating content for the dji fpv, i have a flight routine of about a long session every 1-2 weeks. And i assume i will fly the drone till the batt is 20% (around 1 bar). That being the case, i will not charge it up to 3 bars just for storage, as i know i will fly again within 2 weeks. But i also have a 2 month maintenence schedule, where i check the charge of ALL MY BATTERIES. DIY drone LiPos, GoPro, Insta360, DSLRs, and the list goes on. So if there is ever a case that i wont be flying for awhile, im not afraid as i have this routine check for my batteries. Just sharing good practices. May be a good mention for upcoming content. Thanks for the idea friend 🙏🏼

@villicia164 my charger has a storage charge option that I always use if they will be setting any amount of time. Getting a quality charger is the BEST thing you can do to keep your batts going for a long life! Since Ive upgraded years ago Ive had zero swell or mess up.

@vilicia164
@vilicia164 2 жыл бұрын
@@Marcus2750-u1t Thanks. But I was referring the DJI FPV drone batteries in particular. I am confused by your reference to a charger with "storage charge feature" because I am not aware of such a feature in the DJI battery charger provided with this particular drone. In fact the charger itself I believe is nothing more than merely a power source. True there would be a built-in logic circuit to determine which of the three batteries connected to the charging hub is to be turned on first based on the voltages. But the actual charge controller circuit is built into the battery itself, and thus the high price of the battery I suppose. I agree with you on your point regarding the storage charge practice for the usual LiPo batteries we RC hobbyists use because I also use good LiPo chargers for all my normal (non-DJI) batteries. And I believe the advise offered by Reel Rahim (above) regarding the expensive DJI smart batteries for DJI FPV drone in question here in this post is indeed really is good advice. Thank you for your help because I wish to see participation from as many users in an effort to get an insight into this issue and come up with a definitive answer that can be backed up by empirical data and not just speculation as we have seen thus far.

Sorry I missed this. have you solved it? The issue arises from the not the power contacts (big connectors), but from the small antenna connectors, as there is an antenna in the battery too. Hope you have explored the warranty options, and/or get back to DJI for a replacement.

i have 151 charges on my one battery, and i now get a warning that due to excessive use it is no longer safe to use. Do i only get 150 charges per battery?
@TheReelRahim
@TheReelRahim Жыл бұрын
I would say its still safe to use but it has been really worn out. Eventually there will be a point of total failure, so just fly safe. Just check the physical item has no sign of severe bloating till the point that it bends the battery case and you have trouble inserting it into the drone. But WOAH 151, thats really a lot of flights you have put it through! By the way, other ways I check is smell for leakage. if you find that flight times drop severely, smell the batt for any fragrant odour. Just a bit, not too deep of whiffs. A smell like those from white board markers will mean leakage of any cell and means permanent damage to the cell. Could still fly, but risk of sudden failure in air. So best to discard.
@wabbadabbadoodaa2746

I have 4 batteries, the other 3 are also about to reach 150 charges. This is only 25 hours of flight time per battery BEFORE IT IS WORN OUT. Disgraceful for such an expensive battery. It means if i fly once a day for 10 minutes, my battery is worn out before 4 months.

Hey friend, great to hear from u! And thanks much for the kind words. I actually have received good results from this episode, and hope to help more out there with a repair episode, like a full-on deconstruction series, in the hope to help others troubleshoot their issues, instead of always having to go back to DJI, as spares are already available online. But sorry mate, thats gonna take some time to make. In the short term, i think u could have your video connections loose, or disconnected. Your issues sound common on DIY drones, where as simple as a dislodged video cable could cause the symptoms u mentioned. Maybe have a look at that?

What is best ways to store batteries as to not cause a fire?
@TheReelRahim
@TheReelRahim 2 жыл бұрын
In storage, there is low risk of explosion. There is no perfect way, but i do have some guidelines. 1) fire-resistant storage space/rack 2) away from flammable material 3) never charge unattended I have batts for multiple drones and rc cars, and so i will have them stored on a metal rack. If u do not have many, then a suitable size Lipo bag is a good investment. They are fire-proof. Charging is when there is most risk, so therefore i charge mine on the concrete/tile floor, away from flammable/valuable items. And i am ALWAYS nearby to react to any issue. Never leave your home with drone batts charging ✌🏽

Great Video!! If i have a 1400mAh 22.2V 6S1P Lipo Battery Pack with XT60 Connector, could i use DJI FPV AC Power adapter to charge it? DJI FPC power adapter is the one i use to charge my DJI FPV drone battery. Please advise. Thanks.
@TheReelRahim
@TheReelRahim Жыл бұрын
Technically it is possible by voltage wise, but not safe as there is no balance charge setup there and the DJI FPV charger wont know when to cut off. Each of the batteries for the DJI FPV drone comes with a smart chip that will balance charge the battery properly, charging the 6 cells independently. For a 6s hobby-grade lipo, only safe way is to charge it with a dedicated hobby-grade charger.

That is actually a very possible situation. But find a free time, lay it out in an open space on the floor and leave plugged in to charge mode for awhile (up to an hour), just to test of it manages to wake up. If it doesnt, then i guess u could get DJI for warranty claim.

How do you find the battery temperature status? Not knowing how hot the battery is getting makes flying in hot weather very risky. I have tried everything but I cannot find battery status on the Avata, except for how much power is left.
@TheReelRahim
@TheReelRahim 10 ай бұрын
Sorry I missed this. Nope there is no temp readings available for the batteries. So i brought over a practice from DIY FPV flying, where we would hand-feel the batts after a flight, just to have a general sensing of their temp. By tapping, and eventually gripping the batts, if i can hold on to it comfortably, they are ok. But if it feels like it may scald you by holding on to it for long, then that batt has a problem and on its way to failure. In tropical hot Singapore, the air cooling the batts in flight would suffice. This also applies if you have multiple batts, and all feel scalding hot, then there may be an internal issue with the flight controller, drawing too much power (assuming you are on stock motors/esc etc). Another reason for batts to overheat, is draining them too low. Like below 10% remaining. At this point, there will be loss of power to the motors. But instead of a batt fire, there will be a risk of crashing mid flight. So good overall practice is to return for a landing at the 30% mark. Makes for faster charging on the next cycle too.

Ill try to help u on these. 1) im guessing the idea of having a secondary view via mobile phone, was because a)u can have a friend to experience the flight with you, b)it is by regulation in some countries that Line of Sight is maintained, and since u cant with FPV therefore u need a spotter with u. The external view can be used with a spotter c)some may get giddy, and need to use external view instead 2) on stock settings, iv pushed its limits beyond 2km out to sea with no issue, bit sometimes just going around trees, image gets fuzzy. There is a hack to get stronger single (go search YT about it), but i dont recommend it as its illegal for use out of FCC zones 3) about the giddiness, it really needs the grind. Years back, it took me many hours eith goggles in the sim and then flying real FPV, before i was comfortable. Then again, there are some that just cant, and need to rely on external view. Dont fret friend, it is common to get giddy at the start. I hope it improves for u over time. 🙏🏼
