DJI Mavic Air 2 Cool New Antenna -Did It Help?
Well I have tested parabolic dishes for other drones but never an antenna booster. So I figured that $20 for more distance wasn't a bad price.
It was easy to put on my controller and with in seconds I was ready to try it out. Stick around to find out if this antenna booster by Start RC really helped me achieve more distance with my Mavic Air 2.
If you are looking for a good signal booster for the Mavic Air 2 check it out for yourself by clicking the link below.

This is another awesome test Jeremy and rightly receiving the amount of views it has already mate. You really are the gadget guy with all your tech equipment and reviews mate. I hope some of the product companies ask you to review their future products as I think your passion and experience really comes through well. Shame the elk never came out in elk park for you today that’s pretty much what it’s like for me every time I decide to actually hunt and I’m not just wandering around 🤷‍♂️ Enjoy your night and thanks so much for my channel card I appreciate all that you do 😊👍

Thank you Ryan 👍 I have some footage of the elk there I got this summer, but I decided not to include it. Mainly because someone might say I was harassing the wildlife. I actually have been contacted by a drone company and they are talking about sending me a drone to review. I'll let you know more when the drone is in my hands. You are too kind Ryan and I appreciate everything you do. I sure do hope and pray that your boy is doing well. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to watch this. Hi Jeremy, What a road, wish I had road that long to do a test on. I bought a pair of 'Yaggi's' for my MM. A guy in the UK makes them and has tested them on KZfaq, they really do work. Weather here is pretty bad right now, high winds and rain, so not tested mine yet. Looks like you found the perfect place for distance testing, well done friend.

Super cool video Jeremy! See you are always pushing it to the limit. No surprise you didn’t make it back (not for the first time), but the fact you got it to 22k feet I think made you happy (It didn’t seem that high tho). I enjoyed the sped up descent it reminded me of coming in to land on an aircraft. One more thing, those roads were so quiet, man I’d have enjoyed driving on those 🤔

In some instances these will offer longer range. I've tested this booster several times over a week's time with the same flight path. Some days it worked better than others Once when at 7k+ feet out I removed the booster and the signal improved. Can't figure out what affects the booster to have positive results one flight and not so positive the next

Hey great video and demo.. You should try it again but this time go manual for the signal and stay in the 5.8gHz band... Also get the Yagi 2.4ghz antenna and try the same in goijg to manual and switching to 2.4ghz.. See the difference between the 2.. It should be way better range with the 2.4ghz vs the 5.8gHz... So there's a Parabolic Reflector you can get for this controller.. That way you can keep it in Dual Band and it'll reflect all the signals shooting back at you and shooting everything forward.. Don't forget with the Yagi it more of a streamlines and directional signal to make sure you're pointing the antennas at the Quadcopter...

You definitely want to come back in Sport mode so far out with headwind on return. No play with gimbal and in a straight line. As soon as possible reduce constant altitude in highspeed so you can use reduced RPM while holding speed and the headwind will reduce in lower altitudes. You can make it back to your Startingpoint.

What am I missing, or is yours from one of the first firmwares? Thanks...ok...now I am going to finish watching the video...lol...at 3:00 you say something about it flying faster by turning side sensors off...Thats another new concept I have not seen anyone discussing...

Something very confuses me here. I assume the antenna booster you used is for 5.8Ghz. For long range test like this, your remote must have switched to 2.4Ghz after the MA2 passed 1800 ft. From 1800 ft to 22000 ft, you actually utilized the 2.4Ghz channel, so the antenna booster was completely pointless after 1800 ft. Am I right?

Aint MA2 in USA using 2.4 and 5.8ghz.. and these are clearly not for 2.4Ghz but ONLY 5.8Ghz as you can see for how close and short the metalpillars are... so if your MA2 is using 2.4Ghz it likely wont do jack.. cant you set it to only use 5.8Ghz? so the booster are used? Here in Europe as I recall its only 2.4Ghz on MA2? /though I can check it myself with my spectrum analyzer.. got a bunch of these Yagi antennas.. some in silicone and some in 3D printed. and some you can also put on the mA2 legs and not only the TX (are the antennas in the front legs? on the Air2?

I've done other tests and in the video around 11:20 you can hear me mention that in previous tests without the range extender I had more break up. I think it helped, but there are lots of factors that can affect your reception. This was good area because there is hardly anything out there. Thanks for watching 👍

This drone has awesome connectivity on just the stock remote. I haven't gone back out and range tested it without the antennas, but I have done a ton of flights to back sides of mountains and all over the place without the booster antenna and this thing flies great. Right now we're in the middle of winter here, but as soon as it warms up I'm going to do another range test with this thing heading out one way to see how far it will go. All I could say is you will be pleasantly surprised at how well this thing stays connected. Thanks for watching and congratulations You're really going to have a good time with it 👍

So what’s your verdict? Does it noticeably increase range consistently enough to buy one? I had the extender type booster on my mini, little if any difference. Thanks

I'm sorry for the late response. After trying it several times, I would have to say that you might as well save your money. I can't honestly say that it made that big a difference. I'm going to keep trying it though with and without and if I notice any changes I'll try to let you know. Once again I apologise for my late comment. I've been working like crazy to try to get all my wood for the winter and my day job has been going nuts. I travel all over the state and I am in and out of service. I have limited data so I try to only do You Tube on WiFi. Currently I have just gotten home from work. Thanks very much for watching and please feel free to contact me any time. It just might take me a while to get back to you. I hope you have a great week 👍

Bet it would have gone alot further if you were pointing the controller at the drone. Looking at your screen recording (bottom middle) the drone was going in the opposite direction you were pointing the controller. Bet you could get 5miles or more with those yagi uda range booster in conjunction with pointing the controller at the drone.. watched your video again i noticed you took off from the hood of your truck. I have seen many videos that say not to take off a metal object because it will throw off your compass. Great test otherwise and beautiful country !
@montanadrone1236
@montanadrone1236 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Jim. The truth is I was pointing my controller at the drone. For some reason after one of the recent updates that little compass at the bottom of the screen is no longer accurate. I think I could have gotten 5 miles, but I was hoping to get it back to where I was. Maybe on one of my next tests I'll try to send it out as far as I can without bringing it back to the home point. This area is a lot prettier at the beginning of summer, when everything is green. I was hoping to see some elk, but unfortunately they must have headed off to the high country. Thank you very much for watching twice, I really appreciate it 👍

Do you realize that in the instructions for these antennas ( they say you have to manually switch to 5.8 GHz they don't work on 2.4 ) You have to take it off of Auto and switch to 5.8
@montanadrone1236

These extenders didn't come with any instructions. It was just a test and regardless of switching to 5.8 ghz I really didn't have any disruption in connectivity. Why low battery warnings at 71% battery?
@montanadrone1236

I'm pretty sure it's because of the wind and also the high altitude that I was flying at. My elevation there was over 6000 feet which makes the air thinner and the motors have to work harder to keep the drone airborne. Thanks for watching 👍
