Great experiment showing clearly not only the pulling power but also the stability on both drones.. !! Thank you for your sacrifice on the prop and I guess might be also the engines:) (I'm wondering if it's just like vehicle towing which would wear the transmission out...).

The Mavic could probably get a bit more lifting power if the weight was centered. The way you have it the Mavic can't go full speed with the front motors or it would flip.

Michael I see it has been mentioned already. The only flaw with your pulling test, might be that your attach point on the Mavic is way behind the CG. That is causing the rear motors to max their output while allowing the front motors to only output enough to keep her level. I really think if you could find a way to pull from the CG you could almost double your result. Glad it was you though, and not me with my new Mavic!

Hi Michael, really enjoy your work, waiting for my Mavic to arrive. A few questions I have are unanswered currently online it seems. Wondering if we can shed some light please. 1. DJI's webpage for the Mavic states "You can also add an additional remote so that you can control the Mavic with two remotes or share First Person View (FPV) videos." Has anyone tried or verified this? I've seen reviews that explicitly say it's not possible. 2. Can the DJI Go App help us manage multiple batteries and try and use them each evenly? E.g. number of flights per battery serial number. 3. Does the controller show the Mavic's height above ground level, altitude (sea level), or only the height gained above the original home point? The latter seems to be the case but I see this as a risk if you've launched it from the highest vantage point so it will 'drop' if tracking a POI. 4. Is it possible to store 'profiles' of setting combinations in the app to easily switch between? E.g. with one tap, switch on portrait mode + manual exposure + tripod mode for panoramic photos, rather than manually toggling each. Thanks!

You made a mistake with your Phantom tether setup. The tethered string should have been attached far higher up than on the bottom of its legs. Attaching the string so far down introduces 'positive feedback' into the attitude control loop: e.g. veering rightwards will result with (from our POV) the tether pulling the bottom leftwards, so tilting the Phantom clockwise, making it it veer even more rightwards, tilting it even more clockwise, and so on. This is the primary reason why the Mavic seemed relatively stable: the tether was connected relatively far higher up on the Mavic's body (the ideal position for the tether attachment is directly between the props, level with them, freely pivoting). Had you instead connected the tether higher up on the Phantom's body, it would have resulted with it being about as stable as the Mavic. Try again, if you dare :)

@johnshaw7107
@johnshaw7107 7 жыл бұрын
Interesting even though I don't plan on lifting anything. It appears the Mavic is much more stable than the Phantom. I couldn't see where you attached to the Phantom but the landing pads on the Mavic are aft of the center of lift so inherently if there were full thrust on all props it would pitch nose up. Therefore to keep level it has to reduce thrust on the forward props. Also if you attach to just one landing pad it would also slightly reduce thrust on both props on the other side. If you could rig a bridle that put the load about under the forward sonic sensor you should be able to get a little more lift. I am glad the Phantom survived as the crash look awful dramatic.
@warren52nz
@warren52nz 6 жыл бұрын
Nice. One thing though. With the string attached at the back of the Mavic the front props wouldn't be doing hardly any work as the stability system adjusts for the unbalanced load. I'm pretty sure that if the string was attached at the front and back (to make a "Y" shape) it would lift more, probably a lot more. And yeah pounds is so mid 20th century. 8^)
@eddierobson182
@eddierobson182 7 жыл бұрын
Hi on the mavic you tied the string to the rear of the mavic so wouldn't that just be the 2 rear props doin most of the lifting and not all 4 props??? Brilliant test tho my heart sank as ur p3 hit the ground glad it was ok 👍👍👍

Holy instability.. the phantom 3 really was not stable at Max load. The mavic pro was far more stable at Max load. Also I can confirm the mavic pro can lift 3.5 pounds but I would not trust it to fly very far with 3.5 pounds attached.. but safe limit to lifting and slowly carrying .. 3.5 pounds, you have to center the weight.. rear or front bias best you can do is about 2 pounds.. My friend has a Phantom 4 Pro and that thing is super strong but at it's limit it is just as instable as your phantom 3 was. Some people said I. Comments that weight was too low, I can understand this but most people will attach to easiest anchor locations.. aka the feet of the phantom..

If you want to lift heavy stuff , build your drone . My 810mm with 5208 360kv motors and 18" carbon-fiber props and 10000mah 6S battery can lift 32 lbs. (counting it's own weight) a touch over 7 lbs. Not real stable with a heavy load .

He said 2.3 threes pounds. It was 2 pounds 3 ounces, which equals 2.1875 pounds, not 2.3 pounds.

You just hope the adsense money kicks in before one completely destroys their drone.... That is my take. Luckily I've been playing on house money weeks ago.

ricardopr54 I do love the Mavic and would be crushed if anything happened to it! I think I'm done with my more adventurous testing! Haha. Awesome footage of Puerto Rico I saw on your channel! On a side note I still have my Blade 350QX that still flies like a champ!
