Just wondering since Im looking to start doing more video interview jobs and charging rates that would make junior lawyers blush if it really is the best thing to get for reliability and sound quality? I'd rather buy once cry once in this scenario since having a malfunction on the job would certainly end up being somewhat catastrophic for that job. Has anyone else used other products for comparison?

@@Manatee360Phototography I’ve used mine hundreds of times. Never a single problem. Super reliable. I did forget to hit the record button a few times so I lost my backup track but DJI just released a firmware update that allows you to make it so each transmitter starts recording automatically the moment you take it out of the case. DJI is committed to firmware updates and I trust them. Definitely buy!

I bought this brand new when it first came out and love it! I still have my Zoom H4N but it doesn't get much use anymore. The big thing for me especially for what I shoot is that I had to be able operate it wirelessly without being near the subject at all and this solved that and provides an EXTRAORDINARY sound quality thats great! This is a no brainer purchase for anyone who does anything audio related.

I love that you can record on just the mic itself without the receive, or record to the receiver and the mic so you have a backup no matter what.

I actually recorded an overdub independently couple of days ago: stuck one of TXs on a selfie stick with a screw-on cold shoe mount in the soundproofed part of a green screen cyclorama studio, he read the lines couple of times until I liked it (I pressed start/stop on the RX) then I just plugged the TX directly into my Android phone with a Type-C/Type-C dual cable, grabbed two last files off it and sent over WhatsApp to the editing folks. Could record simultaneously into the phone as well but didn't want to take the RX off the camera (and actually didn't think of recording into the phone using a proper wave editor app, my mind at the moment was set that the TX is a standalone recorder).

I use mine mostly as backup audio capture but always keep it in my kit for those unexpected video shoots where I don't have easy access to the talent to wire them up (conferences), or impromptu interviews where none were requested. Because they deploy so quickly and have internal recording, I can be ready in mere seconds over my standard Sony wireless that requires fresh batteries, frequency scan and matching. My biggest complaint is with the cold-shoe mount, which I wish would be improved. It's fine for straight on cold shoe, but can't easily be placed anywhere on a rigged up camera without some modifications or workarounds. Even a 1/4-20 thread on the bottom would be ideal, so that I could use a mini ball head mount or similar as an alternative. As a "version 1.0" product though, I have to give DJI credit for their fantastic all-in-a-case solution and intuitive interface. My suggestion is to pair these with the Shure MVL microphone for even better sound, and a more discrete appearance if you're attaching it to talent's outerwear.

Looks like a great system. The only thing I think they could really improve with the next version would be to have 32 bit float on the internal recording on the transmitters as a back up, that way there should never be any issues with back up recordings.

I am in the same boat, I see many more people pushing the Rode Wireless setup, but I did my research and preferred this one, and have not had any reason to regret it. Well one case, the Insta360 X2 has an adapter for the Rode that does not work with this out of the box, but same as you yet again I normally just record locally and not use the transmitter so that has never been an issue for me.

I found a nifty case on the jungle site with tear out foam squares that fits my DJI mic, my DJI pocket 1, and a smatree external battery and tripod with 2 adapters, with a zip pouch for cables and the dead cat. It's been great! For anyone looking for something that gets the job done as good today as it did 2 years ago, the first gens are fine.

We have been using it at the studio, and on location on a regular basis, especially being a lifesaver at locations away from the office, I don’t think touchwood we’ve had a single problem with it, yet, reliable, tiny, sounds pretty decent, kind of ridiculous for the price point to be fair And excellent coverage,

Shame it was only half way through for a proper audio test - to me that was night and day with the (presumably) shotgun the rest of the interview was filmed with. Way more hollow, and with a noticable noise floor. BUT: for only £300 I'll definitely get a set for backup when I need to hide a mic somewhere awkward. That magnet mount and local backup recording are great features

I LOVE my DJI Mic kit. The whole experience of using it is an absolute joy. I was trying to decide at first between it and the Rode Wireless Go, and all of the comparison videos that I watched really understated how much better the DJI is. I'll be doing some jobs with a specific company where I have to use the Rode, and it's awful by comparison in some big ways.

Hi, can you please explain on the faults of both the DJI and Rode system? I was looking into both, also do any of them record externally? I have an A6000 so it doesn't have a mic input.
@SamEmilio2
@SamEmilio2 Жыл бұрын
@@svxw For sure, both of them record externally which is very cool. The difference is that the Rode requires this whole workflow: you connect the receiver to the computer, then import the clips using their software - which involves transcoding the clips (they record to the device as raw data, not an audio file). This just adds more time and complexity. The DJI Mic though just connects to the computer and there are the files. ADDITIONALLY, which is a huge advantage, the DJI records to the transmitters themselves (the Rode acts like traditional wireless mics where the transmitters simply send the audio data to the receiver). This means that if the connection gets lost for some reason, you still have a backup on the transmitter.

When i realized the case has no space for the deadcats and the cable i was very disappointed. How was this such a oversight? Just make the top 2cm taller and its fixed. But i also noticed some major flaws on DJI gimbals so this seems to be normal :/
@paulpan6842
@paulpan6842 Жыл бұрын
It's not an oversight. We did have mockups during the development process that included all the items such as the deadcats and the audio cable, but those prototype cases were roughly 30% larger than the final product. The idea behind the product design was to make the case as small as we possibly could and from the results it seems many comments from users are positively surprised by the overall size. The case itself along with other optional items can go in the carrying pouch which includes a divider offering protection from being scuffed during transport.

I must say. The microphone can go the distance. Especially when it is up higher with the receiver than the transmitter. But at the same height may be less? However? The fact that you are doing this test. Right below. High tension power lines above. Is a Testament. To its operational capabilities. It was not being interfered with much. Until you got more than 800 feet away. That is what I would call more than respectable. As most wireless microphone systems barely make it 100-300 feet. So that is Exceptional. And it sounds good.. Until you got to,, 800 feet. When it started to break up a bit. But then you were recording within. And you had clean audio, also. You could insert overtop of the audio that was breaking up. And mute that track. Yes. Wireless microphones can get a little pricey. But those are designed to be, very affordable. The other Professional Versions by other manufacturers. Can go sky high in price. Sky high. And they will really work no better. They may not even work as well. So I'm impressed. As a 20 year Network Television Broadcast Veteran. And Top Engineer. I'm, impressed. I might even purchase that for myself. As this was really a fine, Demonstration. So the folks at DJI make some really good stuff. Especially when it comes to transmission systems. They have to for their flying drones.. They can go up to about a few miles out. So that's beyond exceptional. That's Military Capable. But only for about, 40-45 minutes at a shot. Then they come down. Or they automatically returned home. Before you get to where you want to go. Or for you make it all the way back. And they go down. Sometimes, permanently. Other times you risk your life to retrieve them. But at least with DJI. They will sell you an insurance policy. So that does happen. They will replace it. With a perfectly good, full warranty, Refurbished unit. And I have no qualms with Refurbished gear. In fact I like it. It's usually better tested. Because it has been repaired. And they check it out thoroughly. Because they don't want to have to send you another for a year. And so there is no fear. With your RF wireless microphones. That they will get lost in production. Except? When your guest walks away and leaves. And you suddenly realize. You never got the microphone back from them. It's still in their pocket. And they just got on a plane. And the TSA confiscated it. And through it in the trash. Oh well? It's going to happen. Not if but when. Count on it. And so that digital recording will go with them. If the camera did not record it well. Whoops.. It'll happen. Just you wait and see. And so when you have an important guest to interview. You put both microphones on them. You asked the questions from the camera position off microphone. You can always reinsert your questions, later. By redoing them. This way. If anything goes floozy with one of the microphones. The other one will be fine. And it will save your ass. When you are interviewing an important guest on camera. Just so you know. Record the microphones to, 2 separate channels. You have left and right. Put one on each track. Do not combine them together. Because if one goes floozy. It won't sound good. With the other okay one. Put them on separate tracks. Sometimes that happens on a windy day also. You'll have wind noise in one microphone. When you won't in the other. It always goes like that. And you will be offering up far better audio than most. That way. And it's oh, so easy. When you've got the gear. Now that thing is as big as a huge dead beetle. And sometimes that is going to be seen. On your clothing. What the hell is that?! Is that a mouse? Is that a bug? Yeah no. You don't want that. That's distracting. And so? You may want to obtain a microminiature lavalier microphone with, a, cord, on it. To keep the microphone invisible on camera. And plug it into the little transmitter. They stick in their pants pocket. Or you clipped to their belt or trousers. Or you stick the microphone in the middle of their brassiere. And they won't have a big chunk in the middle of their BOOBS. Look Bob she's got 3 nipples? You don't want that. That's where an ultra miniature lavalier microphone comes in. To her brassiere. And will not be seen. Will only be heard well. As her BOOBS also help to direct the sound into the microphone. With no pops or blasts. As she has 2 large pop filters. In the way. To defuse the air coming from her lips. So no problem that way. But do not clip it. To a guys chest hair. That is not recommended. Use gaffer's tape instead. Then pull it off quickly. It's always good for a laugh. And they will have this chunk of missing hair. Tell them they can get the rest waxed if they want to. But that you do not have enough gaffer's tape. To do their whole chest now. They will understand. So do not do that. That way. Tape the lavalier. To the inside of their shirt or jacket. Tape it, under their ties. That way the alligator clip jaws. Will not run or snag their silk ties their wife gave them. As she will never forgive you. And you will be in bad standing with them. So do not do that with the alligator clip. Use the gaffer's tape. That's why gaffer's have it. It is not duct tape. Duct tape leaves behind sticky crap. Gaffer's tape does not. Unless you leave it on for days, weeks, months, on end. Then yes. It leaves behind a powdery, sticky, mess.. So take it off when you are done using it. And there will be no problems with gaffer's tape. Do not use duct tape. They look the same but they are not the same. And get black gaffer's tape. Always have a role of it handy. As a gaffer. And you see their credits on all Hollywood movies and TV shows. It does not say Duct Tapers, right? Right.. It says Gaffer's. Because they have the special tape.. No one else does. You don't find that stuff at Home Depot. You only find duct tape there. So ordered from B & H in New York City. They got great prices. And owned by a bunch of Orthodox Jews. That look really funny when you walk in their store. What's with the hat and the sideburns daddy o? You wouldn't understand, schmuck. Right. How about some gaffer's tape? You never want to be without, black gaffer's tape. Black is better than gray. Gray shows stains. RemyRAD

Rode Wireless Pro lasts almost 4 hours with 32-bit recording on board. Just keep it in mind.

Has anyone experienced a massive drop off in gain using the DJI transmitter as a standalone recorder? The first 10 minutes may be the +6 gain that I have it programmed for, but then suddenly the audio will be barely audible.

You said you didn’t know why you’d need 800ft of range. Filming skiing/snowboarding could require that. Throw a mic on someone while you’re filming them.

Great video! But did you use the mic to record this video? You don't state as much upfront...

If you clip it under your t-shirt, isn't there any rustling noise when you move? Also. When you want to record yourself without any receiving end you can plug the receiver into (let's say a drone), can that be done too? Edit: You answered the question in the video. :D

Can you plug this into your Phone with a small USB c cable? Instead of the little adapter as it wouldn't fit with phone case on

I loved this mic to start with, until l needed to get the copy off the mic… the file skips and doesn’t record parts of conversations.. l’m now also having issues with one of the mics spiking… very frustrating…. Firmware didn’t resolve it…

this is an issue with the mics. it glitches randomly when recording internally. it does not happen often but makes things a nightmare when it does happen

Does the receiver have any storage in it, or does it HAVE to be connected to something that stores the audio? Maybe I missed something. You did an excellent job of presenting. Very helpful. Thank you.
