Hi Ken. I started flying as a hobbyist earlier this year and I've been glued to your channel since the day i started. as a matter of fact I watched 2 of your videos and the next day i ordered a DJI Tello. I know, I know. its noting like the phantom 4 but you gotta start somewhere. Your videos dont just entertain me they inspire me. Im a 49yr old man that, before i saw your videos, thought it was kinda childish playing with drones but you got me hook line and sink. Keep these great videos coming and I hope to get my skills up to jam with you someday.

Picked up my first mini 2 on prime day. Have been flying most days. Then I found another water landed mini 2 on eBay. Took a risk at $150 and bought it. Cleaned it up and put in a new battery and it flys! I’m liking this used one more than my clean new one. Gives more confidence to fly when I have less than $200 in it. Great drone.

I think if you are just now deciding to buy a drone the Mini 2 would obviously be the better choice over the Mavic Mini for several reasons. But if you bought the original Mavic Mini you need not beat yourself up about it nor upgrade to the Mini 2. It still doesn’t have obstacle sensors nor can really do active tracking like the Mavic Air 2. That would be the drone to upgrade to in my opinion but the price tag is considerably higher. Anyway I am content with my mini and truly hate when a company does this. Especially within a year. Almost an insult if you ask me.

You have to understand that the tech advances quickly, the first version of a product is always very bad compared to later versions, futher versions of the Mini won't be such a big upgrade. I don't blame DJI for this.

@@AndrewStrydomBRP My Mini is still working great. I wasn’t blaming DJI but they could just allow software patches available for the original Mini for most of the improvements.

@@Tbug666 I suspect most of the improvements are held back by lack of processing power and other internal components, I assume the Mini 2 has different chips inside it to support more features.

I had my Mini 2 for a few days now and I'm absolutely obsessed. Farthest I've gotten with it was barely touching 3,000 ft before it crapped out on me (Me and the drone were in between dense forestry and houses). But flying nearby I absolutely love it.

So glad DJI has moved away from the "enhanced WIFI" and giving everything Occusync. It really took away from the enjoyment of flying the Air and now with the Air 2 it's just worry free. Very glad this trickled down to the Mini 2 for new flyers. I mean you did an orbit from over 4000 feet away with rock solid connection. Just amazing.

I fly my little mini2 down to the park that's over 1/2 mile away no problemo. I use way higher elevation tho. 250' usually

I think the mini 2 isn't a go out and buy right now item for most people that has a mini 1. Most ppl aren't viewing videos on 4k. It is better, but unless you are a serious drone person, it doesn't add enough value to justify its cost, if u already own a mini 1. I could see if someone had multiple drones or the smart controller, or was needing 4k then yes, but most ppl are watching compressed videos on KZfaq and Instagram.

I have been getting in my family's ear about a drone for Christmas since January. Christmas is near now and as my first drone I shot lower in price from the DJI Zoom to this new Mini2. Your videos have made this grown man so excited about a new hobby that Santa might bring him the latest drone. So in 2 Fridays I hope I'm getting half the video you show. You have inspired me to get up in the sky and fly with your videos, especially the memphis video. Thanks for putting this stuff out. Your at the limit because you lifted the remote to play with your radio and look at the screen. You misaligned you’re antennas when you did that.

I’ve gotten my mini se out past 8,000 ft, but I decided to turn around since the battery wasn’t fully charged. I’m positive I could have gotten it past 2 miles. Keep in mind, this was from the top of a mountain using yagi uda signal boosters

Did not have problem with mavic mini 1 over similar rural area flying to 8200 feet one way. A bit of signal loss when I turned around and was flying back. mini 1 or Mini 2 both are excellent flying machines! Thanks for giving us a chance to look at Adam's over-engineered haircut in 4K!

In my experience (I fly a Mini 2) 2 miles is really the limit. If you decend from 400 feet you will lose video signal. Also battery life comes into play. In Normal Mode @15 mph it takes 20 minutes to fly 5 miles, roundtrip is 40 minutes. Battery life is 31 minutes. DJI might say that the video signal will reach 10km but in real life, it ain't happening.

The Mini 1 has had issues since the 2 came out. Software update didn't agree with it. I had the same warnings on a recent flight as well as an ESC warning "propeller too fast" message. When rebooting, ESC issue was gone. Sure the fix is coming soon. Great little drone, even though the 2 is an obvious better drone. Thanks for the video.

The firmware fix - v 1.2.1 - is out for Android now. If only 1.2.0 is available on auto update (as in the UK), go to the DJI website for the download. DJI seems to propagate updates on different days for different users and regional airworthiness standards. Rollout to iPhone and Android users can be as much as 10 days apart in my experience. Last time iPhone was first in line, this time Android, so DJI don't seem to prefer one over the other. All credit where it's due - DJI keep the firmware updates coming, even when a model is superceded, and they are correcting this problem very promptly. 👍

Propeller too fast? Check for distortion, that's the usual reason. Firmware 1.2.1 is propagating already and fixes reported problem. PDQ, IMO 🙂

Ken, you should do a Mini 1 + parayagi extenders vs Mini 2, both in urban and rural environment. That is the question everyone wants answered!

with the mini 2 the max distant i went was 3016m or around 9800 feet and i didnt have any single pixelations or big latency's ! i couldnt go past 3016m bc the app said maximum distance reached and blinked the distance in red (i have screenshots as proof if yall want them)

Ken, there’s no doubt that the Mini 2 is better than the Mavic Mini, but this really wasn’t a fair comparison. Why did you gain elevation when the Mini 2 was losing it’s connection, but you didn’t when the Mavic Mini was losing it’s connection? If you had gained elevation with the Mavic Mini, you would have probably gone just as far as the Mini 2. I know that conditions are different every time a person flies, but just yesterday I took my Mavic Mini out to just over 13,400 feet. It was still going strong (though my video was cutting in and out) but I was at the limit of the battery (51% remaining) rather than at the limit of the WiFi connection. The Mini 2 can probably stay connected a lot further out (in similar conditions), but you’re still going to be limited by battery range. The Mini 2 range maybe the stated 10K, but there’s no way the battery will get you that far out and back. The strength of the Mini 2 is that you’ll have a better connection when you have obstacles between you and the drone (plus 4K video, raw video, stronger motors and zoom). Thanks for the video, they’re a ton of fun to watch.

Thanks Ken for a great video. I recently bought a mini1 from my brother. It was practically new. After see this I now wished I would have waited and got the 2. Oh well I did get a good deal and can't complain. Just goes to show you that before you know it a new and improved product will be released.

@@KenHeron Thanks Ken for your reply. I am a Veit Nam Vet and I find flying a drone takes away a lot of stress from PTSD. I hope your videos will help bring peace to deserving vets that are fighting that invisible Demon.

You guys need to do that again and keep both Drones on the same flight parameters ! ; you didn't give the Mini 1 the same height and glitched it out when you answered the Radio !

That wouldn‘t make a difference because the mini 1 lost signal before the curve in the Track, so there where no trees in the way between him and the drone. I guess he should Fly Even higher with mini 2 to have a clear signal. If he would Fly higher with Mini 1, he lost singnal earlier.

@@fabian2286 Height has a lot to do with signal strength as its an "unknown" art when it comes down to connectivity; both Drones should have been flown over the same parameters to have a fair comparison..............
