Yes you can. Obviously there's no obstacle avoidance. So just remember that.

Hi Stevo, you put the drone in front of you and choose track. It's the same as follow, it works briefly but will quickly start to come round and drop in behind you. This works on the new Air 3, if you check my video post yesterday on Air 3 you'll see what I mean. Happy flying. 🫡

Have you done a firmware update? I think it is now like the mini 4 with a more advanced wheel/dial. Is that right? I upgraded so not sure of the changes but heared there was.

@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency I have done an upgrade, yes. When you activate the track feature, it offers "Manual" or "Parallel" options on the RC screen - no "Trace". So it would appear "Manual" is the new version of "Trace". Is that correct?

Can you use active track to record a soccer game? I am afraid it will go too low and hit the players.

Hi, good question. Your main problem is you can't fly over uninvolved people who are gathered together. That's why cameras are used on wires hi up. Even if you could, if you were tracking a player and another crossed their path, then active track would lose them. What you need is active track with AI face recognition of all the players controlled from a central control station so you tell the drone which player to track. Maybe in a few years.

I recently filmed my lad's U16 games. After trying a load of different techniques, by far the best result was to stay on the halfway line, raise to a similar height & position as a TV camera gantry, get both touchlines in frame and then just yaw left/right to stay on the action. You should never overfly the field of play.

@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency Absolutely - we clear it with the clubs and both teams parents, and also make sure that everyone on the touchline is aware that there is going to be a drone overhead 👍 Makes for a great training aid. Being able to see the lads positioning across the width of the pitch is a great asset.

Good question. Badly. The mini4 is better. It has a setting Specific to cars for fast tracking. I was filming yesterday and I'm releasing a video next week on it.

I just did a couple days of vehicle tracking from inside the car. I highly recommend practicing. The max velocity is dependent on the prevailing winds, too, but I got about 20-24 mph in parallel and POI modes. Unlike walking, you must constantly be aware of keeping the controller pointing directly at the drone. Also, if it loses track, I've seen it do some odd things. Be aware of the last drone location at all times!

Hi, I'm pleased it worked well for you. I would however not advice you to use the drone from within the vehicle, you want to keep VLOS Visual Line Of Sight in case of birds, power cable's, other drones air ambulance or other un accounted for obstacles. I'm sure you chose a safe location but good to remember. Happy safe flying 🫡

Suppose tracking, in parallell, and You "disappear" behind a fence. Do You have any experience of how long time the tracking keeps on waiting for You to appear in the view before it turns off tracking?

To be honest I have found its easily thrown. If the drone is further away it struggles even more. But I've found you can into the shadow of a large tree from bright sunlight and it can loose the tracking. In parallel the momentum of you and the drone going in the same direction will work in your favour but all this will depend on the circumstances and environment.

I can't get active track to work at all. There is no green dot on my screen. Then I go to the "control" screen where you are supposed to have to button to enable active tracking, there is nothing there. This is really frustrating. This is precisely what I bought this drone for. I have had it for 3 days now and watched many hours of videos, and not one person mentioned anything even close to the problem I am having.

Yes, out of the box you must select your subject by drawing a green box around it. The automatic subject scanning must be turned on in the menu. Also, to parallel track, there is a minimum altitude- if you can't engage it, raise the drone a little- and always higher than surrounding obstacles.

If a DJI had simple follow-me like my €130 drone people would think it's magic and a giant leap in technology. Newspaper would put it on the front page. Songs would be written. Not that I am against active-track. You can do things you can't with follow-me. But in real life, for example on a cycle tour, it works so much easier and more reliable. You won't have time for all the trial and error. But the follow-me has to be the right 'compass' type so it will stay north south east west and you can keep it in view in front of you. You also want to be able to use the sticks to position it and fly it around obstacles. And it must update homepoint!! Unfortunately very few cheap drones are programmed this way. It's mostly the wrong code in the app. Since the Mini 2 is compatible with Litchi, Maven, and Dronelink , I think it's a much better option for cyclists. nobody uses active-track. They all fly their DJI manually. But I'm sure they would use follow-me once they tried it.

Yes I think you'll never get all those options on a cheap drone. Sounds like you need an Air 3.

@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency It has nothing to do with the price. My €130 L109 Pro does a perfect follow-me. Stays in compass position, I can use the sticks, it even auto-updates homepoint so you don't have to race back were you no longer are. And it keeps me in frame nicely. I wish the gimbal and camera were a little better. I don't need IMAX quality. Just 'good enough'. I'm still looking for a budget drone that does the follow-me exactly like the LYZRC L109 Pro (or F8 Monster that uses the same app). Follow-me is only a couple lines code in the app. The reason why DJI cripple their products is because they consider their costumers very stupid. They only provide tracking if the drone has obstacle avoidance sensors. The problem is not people crash it even more using the auto-shots instead of the sensors in their head they were born with. Take for example parallel tracking with no side sensors!! That's asking for trouble. But like I said, very few drones and apps are programmed correctly. Chinese programmers obviously don't ride bicycles. You don't either. If you did you would very soon find out that follow-me is far more user friendly in real life situations where you can't spend an hour on a single shot. And it also is a tool in between shots to keep the drone with you. I am not against optical tracking. It's great! But yes then it will only work on an expensive drone. It requires good cameras and a huge amount of programming. My issue is that a $1000 DJI should have GPS follow-me as well. And I'm not the only one who thinks it should. Optical tracking only works from behind. You can't see the drone. Thus you need the best obstacle avoidance you can get. But with follow-me ( the right type) you can watch where you are going and see the drone in one view. Watching the phone screen is not an option on a bike in the sun. It can even be dangerous. Active-track in itself is dangerous. It goes up and down and around branches etc. Then someone comes from the other side and bang. If you fly it too high above trees it will lose you. Imagine having to ride up a steep hill every time it gets stuck. Do me a favor. buy a L109 Pro. With all the fancy equipment you have you can certainly afford one. Try the follow-me. Don't look at the video quality. Just the follow-me feature. Than ask yourself WHY doesn't my DJI have that? It's so simple, so effective.

@@SlipstreamCreativeAgency It may sound stupid, but I rather try ten €150 drones to see if I can use them on my bike trips, than spend €1000 on a single DJI for a couple minutes video each year only watched by a handful people. I don't care if they cry about the video not being professional National Geographic IMAX quality. Chances are I will be too afraid to risk an expensive drone anyway in unknown terrain. A proper follow-me drone should be small and safe and affordable. The hardest part is not flying the drone, but to find a place where you can fly at all without pissing off Karen. I always feel like a criminal. Is there somebody around? And then the video I shoot is at the most uninteresting spot. All the interesting places are too risky. I want video of me riding through a nice old town. But I don't want having to get off my bike, place a camera, ride past, walk back again. So that's why I thought I could use a drone. Unfortunately in reality it all takes too long! It should be a matter of 10 seconds. Not half an hour.
