Great to see this new video! Hope it's a 1-million-viewer for you! And maybe I should upgrade from my MIni SE... I crashed it into some grass last week, but it's ok... I've had a few close calls, but I've been lucky. 🤞

Thanks Mr. VanDweller. I hope so too - haha! Mini SE, yes, you probably should upgrade however I suspect you'll get a bit more mileage from your current one. Yeah, they are horrifically easy to crash and destroy. My Mini has a broken arm that I super glued back together. It got damaged rescuing my Mini 2, which got stuck about 100 feet up in a tree on Christmas Eve no less. Never told that story. Still too soon. My glued Mini still flies just fine but I don't stray too far away if and when I fly it. Thanks for stopping by! 😀

Hey Steve! Forgive the long comment, on a subject I feel strongly about. Mini 3 Pro showed the competition, busy trying to upscale the Mini 2 Platform (unsuccessfully) that, like the front engine Corvette - the platform was maxed out. The conundrum of processing & required COOLING to deliver things everyone wanted needed creative solutions. Mini 3 Pro's clean sheet design was DJI's solution - the nose up stance and rear props that PUSH air into the body via INTAKES above the rear arm hinges they're not "vents" as many assume. This created OA sensor issues with the props so close to the body - and so, we got the front mounted, rear facing sensors. These were separate teams, working to solve issues (I love these narratives) For me, Mini 3 Pro comes off as proof of concept, like an engineering mule. Not pretty, a "solution focused" build. Like a French Bulldog it's ugli-cute. Then we get this one year refresh - the watchword is REFINEMENT. Not "revision" not revolutionary, but evolutionary. While they were making it as PRO as PRO gets, they gave it something unique. Air 3 got to roll out O4, Mini 4 Pro delivered Active Track 360. The body smoothing and angles match DJI's current style trends, fitting nicely with Air3/Mavic 3 series. Fully in the here and NOW. Mini 4 Pro looks ready for the bright lights up on the podium. It has a "finished" presence, I am sure you would agree. But what about function? That DJI gave it the works, even beyond the newsworthy things like Active Track 360, there are many small but really useful items, such as Night Mode, Cruise Control, D-log-M, a landing light, a kitchen sink list I won't put here. NEWS FLASH: Positional accuracy is up, minimally. Mini 3 Pro was unable to return to starting point very accurately - with wind only partly to blame. Happy to report that the M4P has ONE better spec in terms of positional accuracy parameters. ±0.1 m (with vision positioning) - improvement from ±0.3 m (with vision positioning) on Mini 3 Pro. While not earth shattering, it's an important improvement. Thanks for bearing with me as I rattle on about DJI's latest. Hey: Who wants to see AT 360 on Air 3, possibly Mavic 3 Pro? Answer: EVERYONE, if you go by the dozen threads in DJI Forum. Petitions. Begging, lol. I agree.

Hey Blair (I'm assuming your name is Blair - please correct me if I'm wrong). Thanks for the insight, I do appreciate it. There is so much to digest in your comment I have read it several times and I am still pulling out nuggets. I'm not a rumours guy and I try to avoid leaks like the plague but eventually the spoilers find me. When I first started reading rumours about the Mini 4 pro it was probably a month out. Honestly at first I was just annoyed. Too soon, too little I thought. However, all that changed when I started researching for this video. I flipped flopped from annoyed to impressed. I couldn't believe how much extra DJI packed in the latest iteration. Your insight has me even more impressed. Despite the Mini 3 Pro's "ugly-cute" design, I could appreciate the propeller driven air flow to keep it cool, even if I didn't understand some of the other design choices. I never even stopped to think about the engineering aspects of propellers interfering with OA but I certainly appreciate it more now. When the Mini line first appeared I thought new features would start on the bigger, heavier drones and then trickle down to the Mini line as DJI found ways to shrink size and weight. Maybe I had that backwards. The Mini line is the engineering "playground" and the innovations trickle up.
@BlairAir
@BlairAir 10 ай бұрын
Thanks - inspiring discussion about design choices, engeneering solutions and innovation is my MO, also I'm really guilty of pulling factoids as I get going. I literally pull up "DjI specs many times a day as I get into discussions- be it battery voltages or other tidbits. Did you know they have a "compare" tool right on the specs page that let's you select up to 3 models, and show all, or just differences? It's priceless for fact checking yourself before making a statement, we know everyone's a critic these days so I try to be accurate as possible. Anyway I enjoy your approach, low key but informative without a lot of hyperbole. PS Blair is my last name, First is John, but I'm easy about it. Here is where Drone DJ asked DJI about Mini 3 Pro and I learned how disparate teams worked together to solve Cooling, OA and propulsion on Mini 3 Pro and proved a sub-250gram drone could do it all (without flipping systems on and off as Hubsan did with their effort 2 years ago) dronedj.com/2022/05/30/when-every-gram-matters-how-dji-made-the-mini-3-pro/

@@BlairAir Well, cheers John! Oh, yeah, I'm always looking at the specs and yes, I use the compare tool often. I try very hard to get my facts straight but sometimes after reading over a script a dozen times, the obvious gets missed. Drives me crazy. Appreciate the kind words.

I decided to upgrade from my Mini 3 Pro probably for just a couple of reasons. I am a little later to the stage of drones and a little older, however as a photographer, I have appreciated the HDR feature a lot that I have available with outside apps, but nice to have them while cameras and the Mini 4 Pro provide. The second thing and in a way even more helpful is the cruise control. Being a little older, I find that fingers do not move as fast as they used when in the middle of a flight, I desire to make a small change to say exposure. Either way, I am anxious to get it out and try the new features that you are talking about. Got it yesterday and the batteries charged and ready to go.

I think it's a touch of PTSD from working stupid long hours back in the day. Anyhow, so sorry to hear about your MS. That's a tough break. Just keep moving and do what you can. Drones are ridiculously easy to crash and/or lose. One moment of inattention, distraction or a simple mistake can end in disaster. Thankfully I got most of my stupidity on earlier drones and have mostly stayed out of trouble since (knock on wood). Take care buddy!

Are you sure that it uses tha same stacked sensor of the new Air 3? Its the first time i hear it after viewing a lot of reviews. Thanks Steve
@SteveCoutts
@SteveCoutts 10 ай бұрын
I am as sure as I can be without having physical confirmation. I was really curious when the Air 3 came about this "new" stacked sensor. I looked on DJI's website to see if I could get more information but found nothing. I found an article from DP Review about the Mini 3 Pro and they indicated that drone was using the OV48C sensor from OmniVision (www.ovt.com/press-releases/new-omnivision-48mp-image-sensor-provides-unparalleled-high-dynamic-range-and-4k-video-performance-for-flagship-mobile-phones/). You go read about that sensor and it matched the specs perfectly and YES, it is a stacked sensor. The thing I think folks miss is that sensors do not evolve as quickly as the products that use them do. Sensors are extraordinarily complicated, expensive to manufacture and take years to develop. Once a sensor is in production for a while, the prices fall, which makes sense when you think about how the Air 3 has two of them. How could they make the drone so cheap with two, "new" sensors? Same goes for the Mini 4 Pro. DJI packed in a lot of new tech but the price stayed almost the same year over year. The $10 difference in the Mini 4 Pro/RC2 kit doesn't even account for inflation. The Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro's image quality advantage over the Mini 3/3Pro comes from better capabilities in the image processing pipeline, which is great! Better quality is better quality. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! Cheers!

There is nothing to add - if you even mention guards are no longer compatible. I might upgrade from Mini 2 and mavic 2 pro but not yet. I guess the next one will become cheaper cause China and DJI are in need for sales after they faced a -5% deflation and even expect lower costs and lower prices. Or I will go then for the Mini 4 when Mini 5 might be out cause the price should drop a lot and this Mini is without all the previous limits you could only find out if you followed all * and footnotes cause that had made me feel it has everything until you start flying or using features cause then the features seemed to downgrade. I am not in a hurry or in need, so I have time for an occasion to buy - or get an amazon warehouse one.

@@aearly841 In Canada, 120m is the legal ceiling limit for drones. Technically that doesn't apply to sub-250g but if you're being negligent you can still be charged.
