As you drain the battery when flying, the Mavic Mini will initiate a number of automatic safety features to stop it from crashing. Low Battery Return to Home, Critical Battery Autoland and Forced Auto
Power-off Landing. These all kick in with little warning and can catch you out as the Mini will suddenly move or land with little warning and without input from you. I show you exactly what happens and also lose my drone requiring me to use the Find My drone function to retrieve it from the cornfield. Note: Draining the battery to 0% is a quick way to damage the battery.
Grime's Graves: Ending bonus footage of a nice evening flight around Grime's Graves Neolithic Flint Mine in Thetford Forest, Norfolk. The dimples are the old mining pits that were dug out by hand, mined, then filled with earth after with earth from the next pit being dug. Each pit is around 20 feet across and went down around 40-50 feet where a network of smaller tunnels branched off for the miners to chisel away the flint. More info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grime%2...

For those who feel that need to push the battery to the limit, this is what happens.... But remember it's a great way to panic and crash, and also damages the battery. All tales of woe gratefully received below! And for those after more info on Grimes Graves at the end: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grime%27s_Graves Cheers, Ian

I just have to say, I just found your channel and I’ve watched a lot of drone videos and I have literally learned so much from you. Recently i was flying my Mavic air 2 and the battery was depleting and it automatically went into return to home but with high winds and did exactly what you just explained! It almost landed over water thank God I was with somebody who threw the throttle up and we got to the sand. I was trying to look up videos on this happening to other people and I finally found one! I’ve also learned a lot of new tricks as well thank you so much just subscribed!

Ian, not sure if you still monitor this video (2 years ago) but I had this happen to me 2 days ago on a commercial drone job. That's why I searched for this video. My Autel Evo II ran out of battery while on an orthomosaic mission. The drone completely disconnected from the controller, so I had no control whatsoever. But I found the drone in perfect condition in a parking lot. We are so fortunate that these dang things are smarter than we are!! Thanks so much for demonstrating this.

Well done Ian. As a drone pilot for 6 years, I still appreciate these educational videos. Drone systems change over the years and what may have been true a few years ago on one drone, may not be correct now. An example, the need to discharge the battery every so often to reset the smart battery. I believe this is no longer a DJI requirement.

Well done video! Most of us Mavic Mini Operators will at one point in time run into such situation. It happened to me flying in hilly terrain with unexpected much stronger winds at little higher altitudes. I was lucky smart enough to fly with the remaining power to the next best landing site. Out of this acquired experience now, once at 30% power I start thinking about an eventual plan B. In unfamiliar terrain I found to use the map function helpful in order to fly as close as possible to the nearest road.

Hi Ian I’m glad I watched this when you posted it(I obviously didn’t listen to the “don’t push your battery part”or I wouldn’t be writing this now🤔)as I had my Air 2 out yesterday on a 14.7km flight, and managed to land at home with 2% battery remaining.I had cancelled the initial low battery return to home as it was about 40%, and decided to carry on another 1.3km away. When I decided to head back I was 3.8km away on 28% battery. And as I found out it goes down a lot faster than you expect. When the flight remaining time turned red I got the “critical battery aircraft landing in current position“message(but this does not appear on the flight log I have uploaded (so I have a permanent reminder of how stupid I am)for some reason), and it started counting down and started descending on it’s own, this is the important part of your post I did remember, and I put full throttle up and held it and that stopped the descent, but it slowed from 19m/sec to 11m/sec.I came another 1km closer like this until it came up with another power limit message and slowed to 5-6m/sec, but I was closer to home now and managed get it home and hand catch it with 2% battery left🥵 Also there was no beeping or anything from the controller whilst this was going on, but to be fair I’m glad about that because that would not have helped one bit, as I was panicking enough. Anyway sorry about the long winded post. Kind regards Kev

C Kennedy , I often wonder the same thing on videos like this, I think people just have to be negative , some people anyway, but good news is the joke is on them, as hitting dislike has the same effect as hitting like to the KZfaq algarythm , it’s a reaction and helps to support the channel in the long run. I found that to be funny when I learned it a while back. It stills doesn’t make sense for someone to hit dislike for a video that is obviously created and uploaded to help people get the most from there drone and help them get it back when something goes wrong, maybe it’s just drone haters in general in this instance though, idk.
@IaninLondon
@IaninLondon 4 жыл бұрын
@@noonespecific9463 You're right; it does all count as interaction; basically when you like a video, YT is more likely to suggest more content from that channel; if you dislike a video, YT reduces and eventually stops suggesting videos from that channel if that person keesp on disliking. So in a way, it's all good; keeps the likers on board and drops the haters overboard.... :)

Thanks Iain; good point and I've now updated the notes and top comment to mention that. Cheers, Ian

Just the video I needed to have watched by yesterday morning!! I brought it almost home, with strong wind from the side ... but when it went into 'I'm gonna land' mode it obviously wasn't in Sport mode any more, and no matter what I did it essentially drifted away with the wind, and I put it down metres from going out over water! It was really confusing, trying to override it, especially since it had been nearly overhead when it decided to land, and no matter what I did it just kept going away from me! OK, it was a very strong wind, but I hadn't realised I'd be reduced to less power for the last minute or so. Lesson learnt!

@@IaninLondon lol, I just hate the American Hip Hop -What's Up Guyz style of reviews although Ed Ricker is still outstanding with his vids. As for horrible accents, my wife from near Manchester sounds terrible 😂
