The problem with the P4 was the sensors. Turn them off by going into sport mode and you'll be able to lift more. I have one.

Well, it probably struggled because of the vision positioning system detecting the uneven surface (the bottle) and tried to hover

The phantom 4 has sonar so if you put something underneath it it will think it's close to the ground and fly up

Is it possible that the Vision Positioning System in Phantom 4 may have an effect in the lift test? I see that the weight was hung right below the sensor system.

But the question is, can the Phantom 4 lift the Phantom 3?

I think the Phantom four had issues because the downward positioning cameras were blocked.

The bottle can be "seen" by the Phantom 4's sonar, and maybe part of it's erratic flight characteristics.

If you want to lift a baby you have to use three phantom 3 drones. And it’s actually very safe. After I rigged it up I swung a baby around all day and I didn’t get a scratch on me

Try secureing the load to the copter you don't have it trying to correct it's self. over correcting and crashing because of a swinging load . eventually it will flip over correcting for the swinging load.

Seems like a (less than interesting) spreadsheet of various drones with a set of 10 pigs , sporting various weights. The pig in the top weight class would be a truly awesome drone.

I have been in the model RC hobby for just about 10 years and my guess is that you have never experienced a prop strike before. Holding that phantom so close to your face is a good way to cause some real damage. If you value your eyesight I would exercise more caution especially when the phantom flight controller is trying to fight the added weight and the influence of you grabbing a hold of it.

Your yard is looking green and healthy...no doubt a benefactor of that unicorn blood...be a while then before Amazon delivers my next big screen tv via a drone...

You don’t have to waste time putting stuff on the drone Here’s what I will do: 1.Put the propellers on the drone in the wrong order so they will propel the drone DOWN when you fly it. 2.Put it on a scale 3.Turn on the scale 4.”Fly” the drone.

Why not just put 5 pounds of water in the container, keep it on the scale and lift off, then see how much less than 5 pounds the scale is showing?

i have lifted 1.3 kg with my phantom 4, but this is max, and the drone can't steer, all engines are at full throttle, 1 kg it can handle fine, but im not sure if this load will damage the engines. but the drone flys ok and it steers. no it was not a living thing i lifted. highest flight is 1800m at night,and yes we have sulight and sun here at night in the summer, but no planes are flying at this time.usaly no planes are flying over here anyway,but just to be sure. and this is about max hight without more modifications, signal was low, and i used 10 min just to land. and this i way more then i need, so this is about max of what this drone stock without hight limit, can handle. and for me no moore modifications is needed.

Please for your safety don't hover your phantom under full power with a moving load hanging beneath right next to your face. Electronics fail sometimes and according to Murphy they will fail sometime while you are so close to those spinning props

Air temperature and density will have a big effect on what it can lift. Try it on a cold day with low humidity

Fisherman's scale would be faster and probably more accurate - attach the hook end to something heavy and the other end to the drone and lift away 👍🏼

If you need a heavy lift drone build one mine can lift 29lbs 22lbs over its own weight . But it's not about lifting heavy things it's about 40 minutes with a good camera . Oh yeah , glad I'm not Ron's baby .

another way to test would be to have them attached to one of those hook style weight scales, do they make them in digital now? That would give an absolute pulling power anyway!

I want to buy a DJI phantom just for fishing...... do you think the phantom will make a good tool? Is it worth it? My number one fear is that I'm flying the drone towards the ocean to drop bait ( you can install a payload drop ). And all of a sudden my drone just drops into the ocean never to be found again. You obviously know a lot. What are your thoughts? Should I go down the rabbit hole of drones or just not bother. You think the phantom would fair well in windy conditions? What's the range of a phantom?

Shame, our Chihuahua is 14lbs. He always looks toward the sky, and I can't help but feel like he is a born aviator.

We use Phantom 4s to carry heavy payloads all the time. You have to turn the VPS sensors off that's all. They fly just fine with max weight underneath as long as it is positioned in the centre.

Doesn't anyone bother to read the manuals anymore? It clearly states on page 37, "Warning: Do not attempt to lift babies that weigh in excess of 2.5 pounds. This will void your warranty."
