Mr Hagan, I have seen a lot of videos on the Phantom 3's and 4's and 4 Pros, and I have to say YOURS ARE BY FAR THE BEST in terms of quality of information, quality of the video itself, and finally smooth narration. You're a true professional and that's obvious and that's why I'm a subscriber. I hope to see more of your fine work on anything with the P4P as the subject matter.

Quick question- Since you still need ND filters for this, which would you recommend on a tighter budget (Not sure if I need the entire set).

Hi Frederick, a great video. Easy to understand and full of fantastic information. I've only just subscribed after finding this, but the ease in which you go thru everything, unobtrusive, easy going, simple, lay back information that is pertinent to the cause is fantastic. I'm a flyer, not a photographer so this is of great value for me now that there is a camera involved. Prior to this, I have been leaving everything on auto. Now, not any more. Thanks and Merry Xmas.

Best teacher I've seen so far. Thanks for taking time to explain the jargon. I've been watching KZfaq videos for over a year to learn videography and often get lost because I don't understand the language (like moire and aliasing) or cannot retain it when it is explained. But with you, I get it and I won't lose it because the explanation is clear and simple. Keep it up, your audience will grow quickly with content like this! I haven't browsed your channel yet so this may be covered, but if you are looking for other hot topics, mine would be a primer on color grading. Answer questions like: Why bother to purposely "flatten" it and fix it later when you can just set D-Cinelike with 0,0,0 and save time? How do you know when the green is green enough, and the red is red enough? Hopefully that is something that could be taught without having to choose specific editing software.

I absolutely LOVE this video & your channel. Subbed. Thank-you very much for taking the time to share your best P4P settings with us. Much appreciated! I am on vacation in Croatia currently using my P4P for the very first time today, did about an hour worth of filming. I was filming in 4K 60FPS, using Polar Pro's ND4-PL, ND8-PL & ND16-PL filters, still waiting for them to ship out the ND8, ND16 & ND32 cinema series filters-those should be here by Friday this week. Long story short, while flying I could see the zebra lines in many of my shots, and after reviewing the footage I wasn't happy at all, as all the videos looked very over exposed. I will be giving your settings a try tomorrow; keeping my fingers crossed the footage will look amazing! I'm traveling to Italy, Denmark & Germany before completing this vacation-so much more flight time ahead! Thank-you very much for your help! Cheers.

Thanks for the kind words, Daniel. Yeah the Zebra stripes on the mobile device are a professional feature warning that you are over exposed. Take you time and enjoy. You'll learn so much with every outing and every shot.

Frederick Hagan Thank-you, I am filming a lot of windsurfing & water sports in general, on the beaches with a bright sun. What settings would you recommend for this as 'best in 4K' & what ND filter? I'm guessing the polarized ND16 would be the best bet until they ship out the ND32 by the end of this week. I'd like to dial something in that works without much post processing work for quick uploads to share, & also something that will require lots of post processing for when I return home from this 5 week vacation. Basically I'm filming everything at least twice with two very different settings. This sure is time consuming, but it's fun & the reason I blew all this $ after all. Practice makes #perfect. :)
@FrederickHagan
@FrederickHagan 7 жыл бұрын
For super bright sun I always start with the ND16. I've not yet found the need for an ND32. I think the only time the ND32 would be a necessity would be with pure white snowy landscapes in midday sun.

Hi Frederick.. I have a question for you cause you always find the will and time to answer))) this is not about the drone but a camera ( that I will use to shoot videos ) the sony rx100 mark 5,, but the basics are the same... on the last trip I did some videos in auto mode and the result was a disaster.. the trees I was filming looked just way to crispy and sharp ( probably due to a very high shutter speed,, was a very bright day.... now ( after applying what you explained in the DJI tutorials ) I set it up like this ( shutter speed priority mode,, so it is locked (depending on fps) but the aperture is changing automatically ,,, 24 fps, shutter speed 1/50 ,, aperture auto,, ISO auto... but even when it gets to aperture 11f (max) it is still overexposed,, in the case of the drone i would regulate this with ND filters,,, what can i do in this case??? isn t it better to keep just a locked shutter speed so the camera can regulate automatically the aperture for getting the right amount of light??? cause the light conditions are changing constantly...just when increasing the shutter speed to 1/200 the exposure is ok,, but then i have broken the rule of thumb (shutter speed 2x the fps ).. please explain a bit how to keep the values and what to do when light conditions change,, thanks a lot in advance and sorry if some of the questions are stupid but I am just a beginner in manual settings for video))))

Thanks again this a great video well done!! Quick question for you...is D-cinelike considered a Log profile like D-log? What is difference between Cinelike and D-log? If I use d-cinelike like you suggest...do I need a special transcoding tool like on DJIs website last year they suggest using with D-log, OR can I just take D-cinelike footage and edit normally in FCP or another software editing highlights, shadows, etc without a special transcoding tool. Thanks!

Frederick, I'm just getting my P4P+ today and am very glad to have run across this excellent settings video you posted. It's nice to see a video where you know what you are talking about and understand the complexities of dynamic range and post work. Thank you. I chose the P4P since I am a professional photographer and have also been an R/C model (glider) flyer for years. What freaks me out about drones is that there is no glide ratio associated with their flight characteristics. Maybe someone should invent a deployable chute system on the top in the event of sudden power failure or using the abort feature? Just in case though, I did buy the 12-month DJI Care Refresh. Looking forward to your updates or other videos. As for your update notes on the Film Modes - do your original descriptions match the new descriptors (Art, Film, etc. ) in the same sequence or did DJI marketing mess this all up? Thanks again, Doug

Thanks for the kind words, Doug. And... congrats on your new quad! As a pro shooter I think you'll be pleased. It's not going to shoot as well as most DSLR's on the market BUT... this quad's camera has taken the leap into more "serious" imagery. Obviously use RAW for your stills. I'm surprised at how much I can push and pull the images in post using RAW. Also regardless of what color profile you choose (I use Cinelike for stills and video) set that contrast to -3. With contrast set to "0" you'll find blacks crushed in many of the shots. Most of all be patient and learn it's strengths...but most importantly it's weaknesses. You'll be able to work around those with a little TLC in post! "no glide ratio"... You said it brother LOL! Check out this video. A little encouragement... but with a little hard truth so be prepared. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hauBpsqIm963oqs.html DJI is constantly changing the color profiles! So go here for the most current profiles that will be on your new quad. I "THINK" these are the latest. Fingers crossed as they've changed the profiles 3 times with firmware updates over the last few months. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8ijmaaDuN2pYX0.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bKtkqcep39bHcas.html

Thank you for this fantastic video I have a few questions I just bought the phantom for advanced and I must say it is amazing. My question is do you use one of the presets white balance such as sunny with a custom white balance at the same time? What about a custom of 5000k i’m not going to do any post coloring it’s going to be straight out the camera. And my next question is if you had a choice which filter would you use the most ND 32 or ND 16?I love both of them. And since I’m not going to be doing any post editing with the color can you write down the sharpness, contrast, and saturation settings if I’m not going to do any post coloring editing, thank you so much Frederick you are the man. By the way I shout in 2.7k at 24 fps. So it should be 1/50 is that right? Thanks again

Your videos extremely informative. Tone, content, and delivery are perfect! I just picked up a Phantom 4 Pro Plus as I'm brand new to drones. My question would be do you know of a sweet spot on the P4+ camera for aperture setting. All my regular camera lenses have a sweet spot where they are their sharpest and I'm just wondering if the P4+ would have one. Thanks very much in advance for any info.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes.... as with any type of lens there is a sweet spot. The P4 Pro lens seems sharpest, edge to edge, at the f5 to f7 range.

Hi Frederick. Nice video - very impressed with your clarity and detail. Quick question though - what are you using for colour correction? I currently use stock standard Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. Would LOVE to see you do a tutorial on this subject. Cheers, D.

What a great well explained video, I get a lot of that 1st stepping shimmer thingy "That's Moire!!" ;) never knew that, let alone thought that I was able to control it, probably need to watch this again and a few other videos of yours and try some of the settings to get a better feel of what my eye likes, but its nice as a relative noob at this to at least be able understand what your talking about, as I am new! I practice and film in the same location for now, so that gives me a chance to compare the same footage taken with the different settings. Thx p14b

NP , I do have a question, having just bought the Sandmarc filter set ND-4/8/16 & PL for my P4 adv plus, as I would like to get out of full auto mode, the tips on using cloudy/sunny will defo stop my footage brightness swinging badly as it did in auto. Q > Would you now recommend SP-Mode and set it to 120 as I shoot 4k/60fps ? And what am I looking out for as regards to choosing the right ND filter to use ? Hope that makes some sense to you! Thx Paul

luap ynneb I shoot everything in 24 frames per second. So I make sure my shutter speed is around 50. As far as which Indy filter to use… Just make sure your exposure meter is centered. If you have an Nd 8 filter (with the above settings) and the exposure meter is on the plus (+) side... that means it’s still too bright. Therefore try an Nd 16.

Hi Frederick. I love your videos and find them very informative. I wanted to give you a tip. Instead of leaving the "adjust gimbal roll" up on your screen, you can hold C2 and turn the right dial on the remote to adjust the gimbal roll.

I dont have those Film Colors... Maybe because I havent done any firmware updates... Is it safe to do that?? I'm afraid to do that after my experience with updates on Phantom4 which turned my drone into the garbage and they didnt fixed until now! So I run my P4P and Mavic Air on original firmware... Also P4 use to have Vivid Color option with was tremendous

Very informative video Frederick. I upgraded recently to a phantom4 pro plus, and I'm still playing around with the settings and colors, but still not very confident with things. Do you mind sharing how you did those color grading shots at the end of your video, and what kind of program did you use ? I never used a color editing software before (at the moment I'm using windows movie maker) and would like to know your recommendations on what's a good program to use on a normal strength pc. Thank you for your time.
