Unfortunately no one carries the pocket ALL the time. Only when you're planing on doing something. Where as phones are with you all the time, from work to a picnic. The Pocket has an advantage for social media content creators and for beginners where you don't need a big dslr or stabilizers/jib.

But The best camera is the one you have with you. Almost everyone carries a smartphone now. Phone are blasting photography now amongst other things. There's no excuse not being able to get really Good footage if you have a little creativity and use whatever you have as every phone camera, well almost, are good, especially over the last few years. Good content! No phone camera, dslr mirror-less or osmo will hand you that and that's what counts the most, not easy by no means. Different strokes for different folks.

I always have said that with phone. Just grab a proper dedicated video camera. Then you can buy a much cheaper phone for other functions.

My understanding is the "focus pump" issue was corrected on both models via a software update earlier this year.

@@ScubaSteveCanada They definitely improved on it, but it is still there. More damaging are those shots where the Pocket will pick the wrong object to focus on. For example, someone talking into the camera and the Pocket focusing on something in the distance. I’ve seen reviews on the Pocket 2 exhibiting the same issue as well. Both issues could be resolved simply with infinity focus.

There is no better HDR as seen in the video. The footage of the Pocket 2 metered for the sky, while the Osmo Pocket metered for the running girl, thus the Pocket 2 was a bit under-exposed compared to the Osmo Pocket. It can be clearly seen, by looking at how the sky on the Osmo Pocket was blown out but the person is brighter, while the Pocket 2 made the shadow on the girl darker, the sky was ok but the clouds were still blown out.

Google "gopro 9 bugs" before you upgrade. I almost upgraded, but decided against it after reading about all the complaints about it.

It should. I was looking at the pocket filters for the Pocket 2 and they say they work with the Pocket 1 also. I would imagine the first filter would fit both as well.

@Olivier La Buse where the sky can be seen to be overblown the rest is the image from pocket one is also much more exposed in comparison. Overall the image is of better quality on pocket 1. The dynamic range may be a bit better but it's not something that will be easy to spot on a video shot in good lighting conditions.

it's not because of the bigger sensor. it's because the firmware. even smaller sensor can make better HDR. if they want, they can make them hdr match on both

@@jackjhonson5757 Funny enough I ended up buying a second hand Osmo Pocket last week with lots of accessories with it so yeah, I guess I am kind of cheap lol. The truth is though, over 10 months or so of looking at cinematic footage I still prepared the Pocket over the Pocket 2 but not everything about it though. Rather than upgrade my iPhone 7 to an iPhone 11 Pro max or even the 12 Pro Max for video, it felt more sensible (cheaper) to go this route for what I do video wise for my channel which is just for memories and a bit of fun 🙂 I must admit, I'm liking it but I still like my phone, I'm used to it. The battery is great on the Pocket with video whereas my phone suffers somewhat. I might replace my phone battery and perhaps next year upgrade my phone, I bought it second hand too two years ago 🤣. I wouldn't say no to a second hand iPhone 11 Pro Max at some point, Yeah, I'll take cheap when I can get it but I still like Good stuff when possible, even if I'm behind a few years 😉🙂😆👍

I just made comment saying the same. I prefer the cinematic look, the osmo 2 looks more action like on a gimbal.

midz m I prefer the narrower field of view, no matter what you still have to be like a ninja to get smooth shots, especially for walking up and down motion. You can always film in 60p and slow it down to smoothen footage

Most people here can't see that, AMOF... Plus the auto modes are misleading when comparing both units. Once you get a better HDR, everything may appear darker depending of the auto white balance and the zone being evaluated with a wider dynamic range. My vote goes to the OP2 hands down. In a more even environment, like indoors, it may outclass some recent full frames cameras in video modes.

Don't forget wider dynamic range.

It is because OP2 has a wider dynamic range. Deeper blacks and crisper contrasts result. Consider that auto modes are involved also, which make this test like comparing oranges and apples. The new HDR is a great asset.

Look at the sky in a lot of the footage, it is totally over exposed on the 1. I think the dynamic range got a LOT better.

I believe theres a 1.3X digital zoom on the OP2 that makes it the 26mm FOV as the OP1.
