Thank you for this review. I think the platform is amazing. Locks, Raveneye, can host the BMPCC with full cage, display, briefcase mode, it's form factor... but what is stopping me from buying it is a certain wobble. In your test footage, you see it when you run - but running is far from ideal, so OK. But also on 1,02 (look at balconies), 1:23 (Look on the far left, you see it wobble) 2:03 (look at the trees)... where is this wobble coming from? I can't remember having this on my way too small Zhiyun Crane 2. Looking for an upgrade but I'm not convinced yet... But your review was spot on! :)

@@skyvistaproductions118 Very curious to know how it goes! I also see everyone put an arca mount under their cage, and that on an arca->Manfrotto plate included... but can you also just directly use a Manfrotto plate under the cage, and put it on the gimbal? Thanks! :)
@donbraga4863
@donbraga4863 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevegek It's a combination of balancing it pefectly and reducing motor strength in the app. the lower the strength the smoother and less wobbling. Also having a correct "walk" (not ninja but upright and rolling off your feet) will add to a better stabilization and less or no wobbling at all.

Can we talk about how the focus motor barely reaches the focus ring? It's a very bad design, I am unable to hook up any longer lens I have, including the 18-35 because I don't how as fat focus ring as he has, that is a very fat focus ring
@skyvistaproductions118

Yeah, it’s true. That was the focus ring I already had on there, so it wasn’t any problem for me. But it does seem a bit limited for smaller barrel lenses. The focus ring is from Tilta and it was three or four dollars, so it may be worth it for you.

Is that a cheese plate mounted in between the gimbal mount and camera body? I’d love to know how you’ve mounted it exactly. Seems you have pretty perfect balance for it. I feel my cage adds too much weight making it harder to balance even though it has more mounting holes

Yes, a SmallRig cheese plate needed to barely offset it. I don’t think you’d have any problem with the cage (weight-wise) as long as it’s balanced properly.

Sorry if you answered this in the video but, I own an RS2 and was wondering if I can operate it with the pan axis locked... actually I was just doing it but Im scared if that will mess up the pan axis motor over time.. I know the R2 has an accessory external lock for the pan axis
@skyvistaproductions118
@skyvistaproductions118 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t see a reason to do that because you can set the RS2 in a mode where the pan axis stays fixed, can’t you? I know the motors will shut off if there is an overload and the gimble will go into standby mode (such as if you mechanically locked the axis) but you’d be putting strain on the motor until it did and then it would stop responding. So, in short, I wouldn’t do it.
@geoi88i
@geoi88i 3 жыл бұрын
@@skyvistaproductions118 No, on the RS2 there is only a mode where the pan axis stays fixed on a point of interest regardless of where you turn the handle. I think you misunderstood what I wanted...NOW the bigger DJI gimbal R2 has whats called a 2 axis mode where you can externally lock the pan axis so whether you turn the gimbal left or right it turns witout any delay at all... almost as if you had the camera on a glidecam or flycam and turned it with your fingers.... On the RS2 the closest you can do to mimic that is turn the deadban completely off, put in sport mode and maybe crank up the motor strength in advanced motor parameters on the app... thats why for very fast moving sport type videos I like glidecams because they give the quickest most natural pan movements with no lag

Im employed full time as a content creator for a professional football club but so far have only done writing and photography and want to add video to my arsenal. Theres an opportunity online to but an RS2 pro combo and black magic 4k cinema. Having never shot video before and unsure how the focusing even works, would this be a good beginner setup to immediately shoot quality videos? I have extensive experience as a professional stills photographer so can understand camera operation from that side of things.

It’s a great combination that I highly recommend. However, if you thought you would be shooting a good deal of action footage of the team (like on the field with them) I might recommend something with auto focus like the Sony A7S III (which I also own), The Pocket 4K is a Cinema Camera, it is designed for movies and documentaries. If that is the content you would be shooting, it’s perfect and I don’t think you can beat the image. But tracking a moving subject on the run with manual focus and a shallow depth of field is nearly impossible, If you’ve seen any professional American football games recently, many of them have gone to using a Sony auto focus SLR on a gimbal for their guy on the field camera (use to be a full steady cam rig). In these buttery shots you see the shallow depth of field and the auto focus at work.

You can record to an SSD as long as the USB-C port is open on the P4k. Everything we show in the video is with SSD recording. The only thing you can’t do is control camera functions like record start / stop, ISO, etc, because that requires the RS2 to connect via USB-c to the P4k. Nue Vue, I see the wobble too, but it seemed acceptable to me given the movement. It seems its evident during walking or running. Those tiny wobbles are fixed easily in Resolve. The Ronin 1 is huge and the osmo has almost no payload on it. I'm satisfied given the size of the gimble and the payload. I can tell you that I did a recent shoot and switched lenses midway though and only thought I needed to balance the front to back with the little wheel. I didn't notice during the rest of the shoot but the wobble was horrible (and nearly unusable even with stabilization in post). After looking at the footage I checked the balance and it was actually needed on all the axis. After rebalancing, the footage looked fine to me. Maybe my standard is too low but it seems reasonable for a little wobble to occur given the size to payload ratio. I'm looking forward to the Tilta steadicam arm to smooth it out even more.
