There are two circular cast-ons that I've seen floating around on the web that I like to use. The one I use ends up being the one I remember at the time because they are really similar. There's the version in TECHknitter's blog called the disappearing loop method, and there's the one from Eunny Jang's retired blog called the lighter circular cast-on.

Love your Rooster🐓 Living in a suburb not far from a city, we never hear such unique sounds of nature such as a 🐓😊 ( just birds🐦🕊) It adds such a nice touch to your instructions. Great video!👍

Thank you for the tutorial! I kept struggling to knit the first few rounds of the dumpling on double-pointed needles only to keep getting confused and failing. I used TECHknitter's method for the circular cast-on, and it helped. I was able to knit the first 3 rounds flat, then knitting them onto DPNs.

Thank you so much for the tip on working the first row as I cord! I am, in fact, am using lace weight yarn on size 7s and this made the cast on work so much better!

This is easy to follow and I love the idea of knitting 2 rounds before adding all the needles!

djinnj, thank you so much for this instructive video. I have spent the last 2 days unsuccessfully trying to follow other instructions. Your video, even without sound, makes these cast-ons clear and easy to follow. Salvation!!

This was the perfect video! I could get the cast on, but kept screwing up how to hold the yarn when I started to knit the first row. Thank you so much for including that part!!!!

@ksmithwhite Yup! Split them up in whatever way is most comfortable. Magic loop works great with this. I would still work the first couple rounds like Icord just because it's more stable that way.

It's up to you; either would be fine and I've done both depending on the increases I'm using (yo works well right away, but m1 and lifted don't) and the needs of the pattern. Increasing right away means there's less bulk when you tighten up the circle, but it's not a huge difference, so do whatever is most comfortable to you.

Yes, you can use it for an odd number of stitches. I was working with a scant 3st yesterday, in fact. The last stitch may not be anchored on anything until after you start working the stitches, though. Just remember it's there and it'll be fine.

Hold your tension as you normally do. If it's too loose after you've pulled the tail to close the ring, use the tip of a needle and ease the excess length out of the stitches and into the tail.

I love your video, very clear and explanatory. I want to do a circular shawl pattern called Queen Anne's Lace and the first round is yo, k1. Do you recommend starting the shawl with a round of knit stitches (i -cord) for the sake of stability of the stitches?

So if using one circular, do you then split the stitches magic loop style and go from there? Sorry I only use double points for I-cord. Thanks again for this video!
