Forget the set prep, forget the math, you cant use headphones and catch the beat of a song and know if it can or cant mix?

Those DJ's are moreso performers. Actually beat matching by ear takes away from their performance. For them, it's cue track, press play, effect or filter out into the next track. Track analysis has to be exact, or else you get lost.

Please make sure you learn to beat match by eras

I bet it was just a simple sample rate mismatch. If the session resolution doesn’t match the file resolution, things will play faster and be misaligned. If her files were 44.1/16 and the session was set at 24bit and/or at 48khz. Should have had a backup rig, especially on a gig this big.

What I've noticed with serato and rekordbox is They do a bad job at Beat, griding intro tracks with current music like hip-hop as well, getting the bpm Wrong, which can be difficult. Another one is when i go to check bpm in beatsource. I've noticed the bpm of the radio edit is a different bpm to intro tracks record pools only display one bpm.

I felt you should’ve use Rekordbox as your example. We know Serato is way way easier to half and double bpm on the spot but sadly you can’t do that with CDJs live. You can with denon but sadly clubs and festivals still trust CDJs and Rekordbox😩🤦🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️. If she had denons this would not be a problem… I’m still confused how CDJs are still industry standard 🤷🏾‍♂️ if denons messed up you can bet clubs and festivals would definitely change their players. We are too precious on CDJs! they simply aren’t the best in clutch situations. 🤷🏾‍♂️

For someone to be DJing at Coachella, and getting paid Coachella money, those excuses of bpm numbers of being fucked up, or sync button not workingng proper on cdj’s, or worst of all 3, someone else prepared their set are all absolutely unacceptable reasons for some not being able to mix songs together. Not to mention absolutely disrespectful to all us DJs that never look at BPMs or press sync buttons, ever, during a set. My feelings are... Whomever hired Grimes to spin at this event is where it went wrong. There should be a very simple standardized test in order for anyone to call themselves a DJ nowadays and at the minimum has to pass to play at an event like Coachella. The test should consist of showing the ability of doing one thing which is the bare basic operation needed to be able to spin with out sounding like sneakers in a clothes dryer... beat match! Match the new beat to the one thats already playing. It's that simple. If you want to be an actual dj beat matching is the bare basic first thing you should learn. if a person can't not beat match he is not a dj. he's a song selector and player, or a button pusher, a knob twister, a fader slider guy, a sound effects applicator, them plus thousands of other titles but you are not a dj.
