In 1991, former Prime Minister Mahathir declared the Vision 2020, stating that we aim to become a high-income nation by the year 2020. As a result, we have been stuck in the "middle-income trap" for over thirty years. In 2023, the poverty line in Malaysia is set at 2,589 ringgit (household income). However, our median monthly salary is only 2,600 ringgit. We are just 11 ringgit away from poverty. It's not just about living; even basic survival is challenging. Therefore, is Malaysia's low salary due to government mistakes, employer mistakes, or you're not working hard enough?
