In this VladTV interview, DL Hughley talked about being a part of the Kings of Comedy. From there, he dived into the issues that Bernie Mac and Steve Harvey had with each other.
DL Hughley noted that Bernie Mac did not think he would get the opportunity he got as a successful comedian, which is what made him decide to not go another tour with his fellow comedians.

It's kind of a known thing between comedians that they had beef. Look at the old Steve Harvey standups and you'll notice he took Bernie's swag with the nice suits he had on, when before hand he never dressed like that. RIP Bernie Mac tho. He always was able to steal the show in whatever role he was in.

Go watch Steve Harvey on Shay Shay.although he only giving his version….but you kinda see he was to blame. He pretty much admits it. Confessing he was no good at films or anything and wanted to stay touring, while Bernie got movie rolls and shows one afte the other. And the beef started because Harvey didn’t want to go after Bernie Mac on stage because Bernie killed it every time.

I remember going to see kings of comedy at the theater and my deceased sister was in the audience and I didn't realize it until I watched it again. They showed her a couple of times. I tripped out. She never told me that she went to it.

Steve was viciously jealous of the Mac Man. George Clooney and Brad Pitt strongly suggested that no one could play that Oceans 11 role better than Bernie Mac. They wouldn't give it to Steve Harvey no matter how he tried to get them to let him have it. I lost all respect for him after that. Bernie Mac also became fan favorite of the Kings of Comedy, that's why they had to bring him out last and Steve often had to be the one to introduce him.

Truth is, they said Steve was always the last one to come on. And they say he use to bomb!! People booing and walking out. It’s damn near impossible to follow Ced D.L and Bernie!!! So then they made the move to make Steve the host in which he was clearly better at then being a comedian with a 30 40 min set. Bernie was real competition to Steve and I think that cases the rift. I highly doubt Bernie was hating on Steve. Why would he? He was funnier

I put my aunt his sister on the phone and put it to his ear and he would start trying to move💔. Then i the next day i told him I couldn't bear to stay there and I'm sorry and he started holding his breath and i said unk you better stop and started breathing. They can very much hear. I told him move his if you could hear me and one leg slowly raised up. I'm in tears as i write this but they can very much hear i wish i would have done more 💔💔

Steve was and is funny. He's watered himself down a lot to fit in a box, but he's funny. Difference is between he and Bernie though is that Steve was the type to shoot the breeze when pursuing success. Bernie was more focused and he seemed to not only make every opportunity count but also make them memorable. Both are funny but don't quite compare in those terms.

He's funny but watered down go look at his old HBO specials and you'll see he was funny but as time passed and he moved up the social ladder he put himself in a box to fit Hollywood's standard for black comedians similar to what Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, and Kevin Hart did. Comedians like DL, Bernie, Ced, Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Dave Chappell kept it a buck with you at all times whether it be comedy, movies, or tv and if it compromised who they were as people they weren't afraid to leave.

DL if you read this... I just want to tell you a story about when my grandmother was on life support. My father, her son, was in the room one night singing amazing grace. My grandmother came to a few days later. When he came to visit and they were talking he she said to him... " You know... when I was a little girl I used to wish I could sing... Now I wish you could. Sometimes they can indeed hear.

DL is spot on on that one, and I’ll add to it: People say THE DUMBEST THINGS when someone dies, specifically when it’s someone you knew died. You think you’re comforting someone, because that’s how you were taught/raised, but those often times unsolicited opinions aren’t comforting at all. Best thing to do, unless someone asks you for help when they’re grieving, is to LEAVE THEM ALONE. If you think they’ll destroy themselves because of said grief, just make sure they’re not going to kill their self or anyone else. If they’re an adult, it’s best to let them deal with it on their own, especially if they’ve dealt with it before.
