Must be different climate conditions. Here if we wheel track hay it stays wetter and gives you slugs when baling, Average dry down 2.5 days in the windrow for 15%. But I can see real dry ground sucking up moisture from a mat. We wheel rake the day of baling 2 to 1 and gain a couple of points. Hay gonna be short here not much early rain. Good show.

That is a nice machine, you will really enjoy the functionality of the center pivot especially getting around obstacles in the field like electric poles & trees. Once you try one its hard to go back to a side pull that's for sure. The only thing I would have done different here is started back & forth on the side of the field instead of in the middle to keep from running over the uncut hay that one pass, but no big deal I guess. Nice rig, you've come a long way with your hay operation Dennis.

@@DLHFarms in my neck of the woods, with a machine like yours, we cut around the field 6 rounds. If you rake two windrows together ya got 3 passes with the baler. Once you have ends all done, stay on one side, an only have one area of off running stuff if the field isn’t square. They are beautiful machines, you will enjoy for a long time!

That is the business Dennis. How do those swaths work out with your rake? But you use a tedder for hay so I guess it doesn't matter as the grass will be scattered anyways. Not much hay in in Ireland, bad unpredictable weather, so we mow, we row, we silage bale and wrap, or lift and chop it with a self propelled harvester, fill trailers and take it to a clamp for silage.

Good Day Dennis. Im trying to find out the studies that show the hay that you drive on while cutting increases dry down. All the articles and studies i see online show otherwise. Could you direct me to the studies that show it doesn't effect the dry down. Looking at buying a mower conditioner , and new holland / case have the widest rollers in the industry This is what one study said in their write up "Another drawback occurs when pull-type mower- conditioners are used: wide swaths are often run over by the tractor tires, which research shows to be detrimental to hay drying.14 A compromise is to make the swath width such that only one side of the tractor runs over the swath. This problem can be avoided with mounted or self-propelled mowers"

@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 3 жыл бұрын
Actually according to studies done by universities sun is the number one thing that dries hay the fastest because it opens the spores of the plants to let moisture out. Wind was the second most effective, then things like humidity, and ground moisture had the least effect on drying hay.

With our 16' center pivot Mo/Co, we always cut 6 rounds and then went back & forth. It gave us more turn-around room. Also, we'd start on one side and work towards the other side. It reduced the number of "wedges" to just that one side.
