River Plate got relegated in 2011, and they came back and won the libertadores in 2015 & 2018, beating their eternal rivals Boca. If they can do it why not Santos?

It is way worse man. The club in 2020 went on to the Libertadores final without being able to pay the players. It was already in a financial crisis because of past presidents. In the following year the team was completely reformulated, selling many key players for ridiculously low amounts. Since then the team has been fighting against relegation. The current president promised fiscal responsibility to try to take the club out of the financial sinkhole it was trapped but the decisions he took where much of the reason to why the team was relegated. The players that came during his administration had high wages, long contracts and delivered basically nothing in the pitch in most cases. The debt did not grow for most of his mandate but in this last year things took a considerable dive. The team was already fighting relegation in the middle of the season so he made lots of signings in the second transfer window, some very expensive. It was too late tho. After the transfer window, two coaches where sacked and the team was forced to use an interim for the rest of the season. Not only that but the team was searching for players until the very last day possible. When the transfer window closes teams can only sign players that don't have a contract and Santos was still trying to sign new players up until the day that all teams have to submit a list with the 26 players they plan to use until the end of the season. It was not enough. The team got relegated, so it means tha they get basically nothing for their campaign besides TV rights. To add salt to the wound, the team has now a lot of expensive players in the team, many of them who don't make any good for the team in the pitch, and lots of returning loans. Before the endo of the season the president had asked for the federation 30 mill in advance from the prize money of next year's tournament to pay staff and players. But without the money they would have got if they stayed in the first division it is impossible to pay anyone working for the club. It has now been more than 2 days past the 5th business day of the month and neither players or staff have received their payment and the president has completely vanished. The club has no money to pay anyone, the squad has the 5th most expensive payroll of the country, one of the biggest debts of the country and the next year's revenue is already compromised. It can't pay wages this month and will not have for the following months either, the president is nowhere to be seen, almost R$700m in debt. It is basically bankrupt. What you see is a zombie club. It should be dead by now yet it is still breathing. Who knows for how long.

Interesting facts about Santos relegation: 1- Betewen Bahia, Vasco and Santos, before the last match Santos was the one with less chances of relegation, with 2 points clear from the relegation zone. 2- From the last 3 years Santos have been fighting for relegation, but this year was the one that everyone least expected the relegation. 3- Santos didn’t qualify not even to the brazilian cup and next year will only have the Série B and the state championship to play

@@lofyy that’s because there are six Sudamericana spots and, for example, this year the 14th place was a Sudamericana spot, Cruzeiro, that was the team in this spot, finished only 4 point above the relegation zone

I wanted the KZfaqr to see this video and see others of fans intimidating and attacking players in airports and even inside the club. William, formerly of Chelsea, returned to Brazil to play for Corinthians. William didn't do well at Corinthians, he and his family were threatened by Corinthians fans and William couldn't handle the pressure and asked to leave. Pressure and demands in Europe are not problems for Brazilian players, the biggest problem is adapting to the new country, the language, culture, type of football played in Europe...

brazilian serie a this year was absolutely crazy in every sense. 😅 i don't follow it too much but i keep track of whats going on from time to time. botafogo was 15 points ahead of gremio and palmeiras and ended the season on 5th! place, not even directly qualifying for the group stages of the copa libertadores. gremio was carried to second place by luis suarez after just newly relegating into the serie a. internacional had an incredible run in the copa libertadores, beating river plate and bolivar and only coming short to the future champions fluminense who were a phenomenon in itself this season. and there was so much more.

Fluminense won the first Libertadores against a Boca who went to the finals without winning a single game in the regular time. São Paulo won the firs Copa do Brasil in their history. Santos got relegated with the goal that Pele didn’t scored. Flamengo lost every competition in the year after a amazing Libertadores campaign without any lost in 2022. Flamengo “fired” the manager who won the Copa do Brasil and hired the manager from Corinthians who lost and got in second place. Botafogo made the best first half and the worst second half of the same competition. This is all from the top of my head with a research I guarantee you that more crazy things happened this year.

Jokes aside, on Brazil is completely normal a great team to be related in a bad year. We have at least 13 great teams on Brazil for 20 places in the first division, and 4 teams relegated each year. Actually 2023 was an special year, because all 13 big clubs were in the first division at the same time, a quite rare thing to happen.

I even make my self believe that the most competitive league in the world is the Brazilian league, q team that looks to be 10 to 13 points in front starts losing all games its faced with and loses the 2 hand grip on the title and a team that has a great team and supposedly was very consistent lost all possible titles there were… yea.

Big teams in Brazil get relegated, Palmeiras were in the Serie B, and they came back to win the Libertadores a couple of years later. Gremio got relegated, Repromoted and got Luis Suarez, and missed out on the Brazilian title by 2 points. Santos will come back.

The Rueda administration is by far the worst in the club history, a club that's likely the most known brazilian club abroad and one of the biggest in the whole world, and now we need to rebuild with less than half of the budget of last season... If he does this I think we can all agree that his career wasn’t totally wasted and he had a legendary one with a huge comeback story in his roots
