How is it the Hoffman’s struggle on every episode with bad ground and equipment always blowing up or breaking down, but Shawn is virtually always on gold and nothing ever seems to break down???? He’s always has record number clean ups… The worst luck I’ve seen on Mr. Gold’s episode’s were the sea getting too rocky for the dredge 🤷‍♂️

The Hoffmans are recently (15 years or so) new to mining. They don't have the instincts. They have no lineage that goes back over 100 years ago. They just decided to invest in a mining operation and throw a hail marry on ground that may or may not be pay dirt. Character is another thing. They always seem to have drama, deaths, illnesses, etc. I stopped watching that show because of the Hoffmans. Parker is a second generation miner who is driven. Shawn Pomrenke is a second gen miner with vast knowledge of the shores around Nome and he is better prepared and takes good care of his equipment. He's also a natural. The Hoffmans don't have these same qualities. I think they rest on just being happy to be reality TV stars and bank those Discovery Channel paychecks. They may even take a fall every season for the sake of the shows ratings. Drama attracts views.
