you got that right. The game without mods is still great, you can really feel the "punch" each weapon packs, from doing a crazy combo with Agni and Rudra to shooting charged E&I shots---this game has aged fairly well

exactly. DMC3 is such a great game, but the lack of style switching is off-putting after visiting DMC5. Hopefully they'll release style switching on the HD Collection

I have a love-hate relationship with the limitations of DMC3. Playing DMC3 without style switching feels weird after visiting the newer DMC titles, but at the same time being limited to one style encouraged you to thoroughly learn that style and to wring out its maximum potential. Vanilla DMC3 accentuated being focused and efficient a lot more, whereas the future DMC titles incentivized more creative, stylish plays; both are good and yeah swordmaster is the GOAT

I didn't even go for SS rank, S ranking every mission by itself was difficult enough. Every time I hear the counterargument that style switching would make the game too easy I roll my eyes. They're not wrong, but then again *DMD chess board* shudder

@@Zavouk I SS-ranked everything except some missions on DMD. This was on the PS2 mind you. But still. The game demands absolute perfection. And you cannot take any damage at all on DMD. You have no idea how furious I was after mission 8. Imagine doing everything perfectly, avoiding damage and defeat the enemies and the Leviathan hearts stylishly... only to have your SS rank taken away just because you happened to step on an acid pool for approximately 0.00001 nanoseconds (whatever that means) somewhere along the way 😔

I don't think the styles are nerfed in the official switch version

Style switching just allows you to switch between styles during gameplay, which is something you can't do normally; you either have to change styles at the start of each mission or at a divinity statue. If none of what I said made sense to you then you'll understand when you get to the other DMC games

@@Zavouk no that made sense because the only place I could do it was at the statues and I didn’t realize you were switching styles in the middle of the video

@@beta1177 it becomes a core mechanic later on in the series, making Dante both fun, complex, and utterly confusing. You'll get used to it tho

@Zavouk depends on which emulator you use if it's aethersx2, which emulates the ps2 game is no (obviously), but you can make it happen by using patch code. There's a one dude who creates the style switcher patch code. Unfortunately, the style switch patch code doesn't work as intended bc as soon as you switch the style, Dante will start T Posing (which is funny).

@Zavouk that can be easily fixed except for the one i mentioned before bc it's a one-man project. He said that he'd fix it one day but the problem is he never fixed it.

most dmd players I see spam Spiral at Arkham and keep a long distance from him. This is the same strat that I use. Make sure to time your dodges right when he shoots projectiles at you; those are pretty tricky to dodge at times.

That might work. I’ve used Spiral a few times, but I don’t know how good it is.

@@beesechurger2540spirals pretty good and spammable if you rapid switch between E&I and spiral. It even works against Gigapede fairly well. Just make sure to upgrade spiral fully

Like other Devil May Cry games than DMC5 mouse and keyboard support was FUCKED UP like DMC3 keyboard controlling was a fucking joke made propably from drunk programist(sorry but you canot change jump key to SPACE so you must jumping on K)

Just try to play DMC3 on keyboard and mouse(this game even seen the mouse cursor?) and you will know what i mean.

game's still pretty strong even without style switching; after all, the game was designed around having 2 melee weapons and 2 guns at a time, with one style. Plus, compared to the other DMC games you have to be conscious about the weapons and style you chose when playing a specific level which engendered a more thoughtful play style---this is especially true on DMD or getting S ranks

@@Zavouk yeah, plus playing as Dante for the whole game really helps. Like I don’t understand why in the newer titles they don’t let you replay missions as Dante. Except in 4… but 4 is weird like that. I’d definitely replay 5 more, if I could just replay Nero’s and V’s missions as Dante. 3 just kinda hits different because it feels like the dev team wanting to prove that Dmc wasn’t dead after 2. 5 feels similar to that, but had less to prove since by then everyone had come to love the original Dmc timeline. Also isn’t it weird how in 5 and 4 Vergil gets the full 20 missions to himself while everyone else has to share? Also one last part I have to rant about 5 is the fact that there is no costumes besides an alt colour. 3 has some of the best costumes in the series. Shirtless Dante, sleeveless Vergil, Dmc 1 Dante without his coat. But in 5? Oh you just get a recolour…

@@ghostwalkergames7707 agree with all of those points, especially for the limited Dante missions. It's kind of ridiculous how they expect you to master Dante when you have less than 10 missions to play as him in DMC5, and even then there are only a couple of missions that are actually fun or ideal to practice in. I guess that's the compromise of making an action game campaign with multiple characters: Every character's trying to fight for the spotlight. At the same time though I feel like the addition of Nero and V along with the exclusive character missions has given the Itsuno team the full liberty of fleshing out Dante as a character. I'd imagine if the main campaign were to include more Dante missions, players would just be overwhelmed. But yeah, I get your point, it's such a missed opportunity that we can't play as any character we want on any mission (apart from Vergil). Thankfully, I've recently installed DMC5 on PC and I've installed mods to help mitigate some of the problems you've mentioned; playing Dante on any mission is so liberating. I've also gotten a mod to compensate for the disturbing lack of unique costumes in this game---seriously though, why do I need to spend money to buy a bland recolored costume when in DMC3 I got multiple unique ones for free? Having the DMC1 costume in DMC5 is definitely an upgrade.

@@Zavouk I guess it just sucks when modders can make better cosmetic and gameplay additions than the actual dev team. Don’t get me wrong, I love dmc 5, but I just don’t like playing as Nero or V. It’s the same problem I have with Bayonetta 3 how it made you play another character Viola in certain missions and wouldn’t give you the option to switch between Bayonetta in those missions.

true, DMC3 in particular is special since the enemies are so "crunchy" and each weapon has a distinct weight and feel to them. Not to mention that DMC3's guns actually feel powerful and have a heavier rumble in the controller compared to the other games. These factors alone carried DMC3 within the absence of style switching imo

if you have a decent PC and you're able to buy HD Collection, you should get it. Style switching is worth it and the game plays so much better
