What a joy at the age of 62 to discover there's still more Shostakovich to be heard for the first time.

Thank you ! Less known of Shostakovich ballets, I saw Bright Stream, BOLT, Golden Age, Lady and Hooligan, Hamlet but this is the first time I see ..has some elements of Golden Age and Bolt.. a bit of Bright Stream with accordion player dancing.. Love it

Bravo et merci d'avoir diffusé ce ballet quasiment inconnu du grand Dmitri Dmitievitch Chostakovitch (musique de scène à l'origine-1931), une très belle synthèse de son style inimitable!

Came upon this music by accident when I watched a BBC proms programme back in 1992. This piece (slightly shorter version) was performed with Mark Elder conducting. I remember the guy on the piano (an old upright piano) played a few extra 'titbits' of music mid way, then got hold of a pint of beer and drank it before continuing. Went down well with the audience. Loved this music ever since.

Some more of Shostakovich's delightful "Russian circus music". Up there with the Orango prologue, the humour movement of Baba Yar, the first movement of the 9th symphony (with that rude trombone!), and the copulation scene in Lady Macbeth of Mtensk (with another rude trombone). Haydn and Shostakovich are the two composers who make me LOL through their pure musical artistry (in some of their works, of course, no one is laughing in the Mass in tempore belli or the Leningrad symphony or the 13th or 15th string quartet). Liking it! :-)

Choreographers have such a fantastic imagination, to see the world, people and daily life in such a different way, but to be able to construct life in pattern. A bit why we like detective stories , a start, a middle and an end.

Terrific, enjoyed this greatly. Personally I can alway have more ballet in my life, and a can never get enough Shostakovich! The sound does not seem to be properly synced with the dancing however, it seems to be about 5s late. If this was fixed, it would be so much better, thank you.
