Really a good job that valorizes each second of musicality... really beautiful
@heinzobermite48313 жыл бұрын
The cinematography is first-rate here, BUT... to give credit where credit is due: you guys are extolling the work of the editor. This Hall is absolutely loaded with cameras! They’re everywhere & hidden - completely unobtrusive; you can sometimes see one or another of them parked on an unnoticed ledge or hanging from railing (they’re not very big). So the genius keeping our visual focus on the “important parts” of the music is the editor who’s taken all those visual sources and intercut them as you see here. Not to detract from the excellent cinematography & direction, mind you; you can see that in the very tasteful use of zooms and pans.
@katbullar3 жыл бұрын
@@heinzobermite4831 well... agreed, BUT other important concert halls like the Berliner Philharmonie in Berlin is also loaded with cameras and rarely they do good editing...

I don't know how many times I have seen this video (or listened to it when I am outside). For maybe 1,5 years I always turn back and think this is the greatest concert I have ever heard. When I first heard his C major concerto, firstly I thought it sounded like Mozart. Then after a few bars there was the drama of Beethoven. Shortly after I heard Chopin. Absolutely wonderful music that is very under rated.
@heinzobermite48313 жыл бұрын
I’ve always said that Hummel was the link between Mozart & Chopin: he took what he learned as Mozart’s only student, expanded that and then, Chopin was clearly influenced by his music & expanded upon that even more... and yes, Beethoven. There was a bit of a rivalry between Beethoven & Hummel that eventually grew into reconciliation & mutual respect, to the point that Ludwig had willed that Hummel perform musical improvisations at Beethoven’s Memorial Concert. It was there that he met Schubert who was so taken with him that he, in fact, dedicated his final three sonatas to Hummel but, by the time it came for them to be published, both of those composers had died & so, the publisher took it upon himself to ignore Schubert’s wishes & dedicated the 3 to Robert Schumann, who was still alive at the time... There’s a marvelous recording by the Capricorn Ensemble of two Hummel (piano) septets & another by the Nash Ensemble of Piano Quintets of Hummel & Schubert, all on Hyperion, that cannot be recommended enough if you enjoyed this Hummel concerto performance.

I first heard the concerto in a somewhat truncated performance on the Vox Turnabout label by Martin Galling but it was Stephen Hough who revealed its best in his famous Chandos recording.
