I was a student of class 5 then . We watched the Nehru Cup matches live on DoorDarshan with my elder brothers and their friends . I still recall Wasim Akrams first ball 6 of Viv Richards in the final at Eden Gardens that clinched the title for Pakistan against WI.

I remember Imran Khan was the Man of the Series in this tournament due to his consistent good performance. The tournament was in effect a Mini-World Cup cause all test & ODI playing nations participated.

@@palleanandgoud3593 doesn’t matter...the Kiwis were not a strong unit in 1989 Anywayz. Beside that, u had all other cricketing power nations playing with their full strength teams. It was highly prestigious event which endia was expected to win but failed...worst part for them was that they got beaten in the group match against Mighty Pakistan team very comprehensively.

Yes, India were a very good ODI side but that innings by Miandad, possibly one of the top 5 innings ever played in ODI changed that. But for the past few years India has the advantage over Pakistan

Yes Pakistan has defeated India in Sharjah in Oct 1985 before Miandads last ball six in 1986 even they defeated India in 1978 1982 1984 series in Pakistan

#KrisSrikanth is the only batsman I have seen being run out two times after slipping and falling on the pitch. The first time was in Australia 🇦🇺 during a world series match of the 1986 season. He should have got better spikes while he was still playing international cricket. 😑

There was no momentum in fvour of India..122 for no loss means nothing when chasing 275+ in those days ..especially against Pakistan's bowling attack and then the psychological block and disbelief that they can win against Pakistan...

Currently, I am up to September 1990, so I have a few years to go. The sporadic later ODIs and Tests I have uploaded are only being converted from VHS to DVD ahead of schedule in order to trade for the few gaps I have in my England collection. What a disaster it was. We were 150 runs for no loss and then suddenly all collapsed. Kapil Dev & Co. shud hve resigned long back . They brought desrepute to nation. BCCI shud hve overhauled the whole team bcoz we didn't have Quality match winning fast bowlers nor good batsmen . .

This tournament was organised by Rajiv Gandhi for his grandfather's birth centenary. Two things therefore stand out:- Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869. In 1969, ODI cricket was not popular. secondly, unlike Nehru, Gandhi did nothing to obtain power for his family. Even Gopalkrishna Gandhi is relatively unknown compared to Nehru kin.
