You really have to feel for the players and the Saracens fans.My honest feeling is that they look really well after their players,probably the best compared to all the other clubs.Player welfare and looking at their future prospects post retirement seems to be at the forefront and perhaps they missed a trick by not being more transparent with the premiership heads about it all . This is also very worrying for the national team as the spine consists of Sarries players so this will also be a self inflicted wound to England rugby if the fine and points deduction does not get overturned. BTW,Robshaw should keep his gob shut as Harlequins had Bloodgate a few years ago !

@Jim Hamilton you just said Sarecens help build players into a new career, a new pathway. This by investing in a business or property that the player benifits from, which you don't have a problem with. General Principles of the Regulation 2.3(b)(ii): payments to any employee benefit scheme, including without limitation any payments by the Club or Connected Party of the Club to an Employee Benefit Trust, Employer Funded Retirement Benefit Scheme or any equivalent entity shall be included in the Salary Cap Year in which they are charged by the Club in its statutory accounts or when paid by the Club, whichever is the earlier; How is what you describe not an employee benift scheme. The player benifits from some investment that they would not have had access to unless they were employeed by Saracens. # # # E D I T # # # The earliest document I have seen is the 2016-17. Where this rule is laid out as above. PremiershipRugbySalaryCapRegulations201617.pdf

Another leg they DON'T have to stand on is 2.3(a)(i): 2.3 Operation of the Regulations (a) To ensure the proper observance and enforcement of the Regulations, each Club agrees during the operation of the Regulations to notify in writing to the Salary Cap Manager details of: (i) any potential or actual loopholes, lacunae or errors in the Regulations; Even if they didn't think it was defined as 'Salary' they must have thought they had found a loophole otherwise why would they exploit it.

@itsjoemofo4 жыл бұрын
Excellent reply!.. These co-investments are well acknowledged and should be considered within cap. Procedural unfairness may be an option though... Apparently clubs were investigated years back and no action taken as it was accepted a majority of clubs were in breach..

I agree that Saracens has a good club dynamic. But nevertheless they broke the rules and have done so for some time by the looks of it. Would they have been so dominant and successful if their salaries were on a par with other clubs, would they have attracted so many star players, probably not. I can understand the other clubs feeling annoyed with the situation...be very interesting to see how it all pans out.

I'm not sure about the word cheating. Cheating for me would be: directly deceiving the other clubs and Premiership Rugby about the investments and business opportunities etc knowing that it was breaking any rule or law. I think that Saracens thought they were playing the game and keeping within the legal loopholes and parameters/taking advantage of a grey area - all the top and elite teams/performers do this. Taking supplements to enhance your performance? Obtaining and accessing the latest and most expensive technologies/research in order to stay one step ahead of the game? Some clubs can afford these things better than others; does that then constitute cheating?

@pheasantpluckersson21384 жыл бұрын
So what your saying Jim, is that IF you had gone to a big club, that wasn’t cheating, you could be presenting the One show or discussing tampons on loose women every lunch time 👍🏻
@Finderskeepers.4 жыл бұрын
@Jim There are plenty of clubs that have done the good stuff you mentioned without breaking the cap. Lance Armstrong might of treated his team very well but he still cheated and robbed the honest teams of their just rewards. Saracen need to be stripped of their titles "won" during the period.
@jamesmarsden32594 жыл бұрын
Why is there a cap in the first place?
@Finderskeepers.4 жыл бұрын
so trophys cant effectively be bought. eg Chelsea ,man city, etc
@matttinsley23944 жыл бұрын
Why is everybody acting surprised? They got caught cheating 4 years ago and it was commonly accepted that they still had been ever since. The only surprise is why anybody would believe that Saracens and their ownership won't try and do it again straight away. Nice bloke or not, Nigel Wray clearly isn't fit to manage a Premiership rugby team. If Saracens want to stay in the league, he should go.
@markpattinson46274 жыл бұрын
Can you tell me by how much the salary cap was breached by? I suspect you cant.
@mykeday4 жыл бұрын
Jim said himself help them invest help them become entrepreneurs. Yes good idea. But do it with their money and their money only. The second the owner and those affiliated with the club are putting money in to then they are clearly in receipt of additional money from the club. It's cheating.
@eddiel76354 жыл бұрын
Myke Day the system is completely wrong. Saracens lose money by sending 8 players to the World Cup and he salary cap doesn’t cover it. How can you lose half your team for half the season with next to no compensation and then be expected to compete in three competitions, the whole thing is bullshit. If Nigel wants to invest in someone’s business that’s his business in my book.
@mykeday4 жыл бұрын
@@eddiel7635 the salary cap does cover it cause they are given credits for when the players are on international duty. Also the players receive international match fees which is outside of the salary cap. So no actually saracens are far from hard done by. Then to cheek it they are retaining their elite players by back handing them additional money as well.
@mykeday4 жыл бұрын
@@eddiel7635 investing in their business simply means the club can give them additional money. The first line of the salary cap states that it's there to make it a fair and level playing field to uphold their integrity of the game. The second a team tries to justify that no what we're doing isn't the salary cap and its actually OK to do so, you are immediately belittling the games integrity. If you have to justify its not against the salary cap, then it clearly is against the salary cap.
@eddiel76354 жыл бұрын
Myke Day na mate, look it up. It’s £80,000 each for up to four players. Saracens has 9 in the England squad in the end. It doesn’t even come close to covering it.
@eddiel76354 жыл бұрын
Myke Day Saracens even got fined by premier rugby a couple of years ago for not fielding enough England qualified players when they had 7 playing for England that weekend. The whole system is a fucking joke. How can you play half a season with half your team missing?
@eamonnflanagan41804 жыл бұрын
Did the Saracens players in the World Cup know that this was going to explode in England, before playing the World Cup Final.....did it have an effect on their performance?

Saracens never hid the fact that they were investing in the health, welfare and future careers of their players. It’s been well documented that no other club supports player health now and into the future as well as Saracens. This is something every other club should feel ashamed by. Unlike other clubs trying to buy success like Exeter or Sale etc, nearly every single key player at Saracens has been at the club through the academy system or joined years ago. It seems that investments are not covered by the cap so who knows what the outcome will be. Trolls like Baxter, Diamond etc should just wait till the process is ended before abusing Saracens.
@itsjoemofo4 жыл бұрын
muse-ickle Surely the investments are covered... The England captain is one of those Saracens. He proved to be a disgrace after losing the WC final. They think they are almighty. Fact is it all comes from the culture existing in the clubs such as Saracens. Cheats never prosper.
