Had to just try to do a bit of a badass build, and it took me a while to figure out how to build this one, but I'm super happy with how accurate it feels to pull of Venom

I like this interpretation of Venom, it's nice to see a version where you don't have to be a spellcaster!

For an alternate option to starting race, the Dhampir from Ravenloft fits quite well. You get a bite attack, spider climbing, and *drum roll* the option to have a sentient symbiote/parasite living inside you that craves brain juice and can contest your characters actions. It's literally the source of your powers.

It would be really cool to play venom with two players, one being Eddy and the other being venom (I mean venom can also just be the dm but it would feel even better to collaborate against the dm)

Ooh, this one is gonna be great! One thing I heard playing as Venom in a tabletop is to have someone talk in your ear and you have to address the symbiote (this works with the Venom 2018 version)

In ravenloft in the form of dark gifts there's actually a symbiote you can homebrew and reflavor it a little more to suit your needs and you don't have to choose the haunted one background if you talk your DM into letting you have it at level one.

Worth pointing out that, iirc, Simic Hybrid's darkvision is standard (which doesn't work in magical difference),while Astral Self Monk's darkvision also works against magical darkness.

Venom is weak to thunder AND fire; if you want to be in character. A 2-level dip into Circle of the Spores Druid is also a good flavor choice. 8:58 I don't know what Jeremy was thinking when he posted that, because the PHB pg 195 says, "Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you can use an unarmed strike: a punch, kick, head-butt, or similar forceful blow (none of which count as weapons)."

your not wrong about Venom being a primordial, his race was made by a god to be his weapon to rule the universe in the comics

I just did a variant human but used a homebrew warlock class called the symbiote. Gonna experiment more tho

there's actually a cool feature that was added with Ravenloft, called Dark Gifts. These are aspects that the DM can choose to give to players, and if they accept, they gain a certain ability or two. One of them is actually called Symbiotic Being, but it's not really like the marvel symbiote, instead allowing you to reroll a saving throw by spending a hit dice, with the possibility of being charmed by it if you don't follow its agenda. I'd say the best options would either be Second Skin, so you can cast Alter Self and get natural weapons, or Shadow Quirk, which lets your extend the reach by 10 ft and gives you Mage Hand, which you can describe as being black tendrils that grow and extend from your body. The rules say you can only have one at a time, but I'd probably homebrew something that would be a combination of the 3, with limited uses and the possibility of being controlled by the symbiote. edit: after seeing the barbarian subclass, I'd instead make it a combo of Shadow Quirk and Symbiotic Being

Watching these videos all I'm realising is theres so much to dnd I have no idea about at all and I have no idea how you would find out. Everyone I've ever known also imposes their own rules and limitations that normally stunts my creativity, like I think oh this is a cool idea, looks up online to see if possible or something similar, it is! To dm "can I do thi-" "No" "oh I'll be um a wizard I guess" 😔

What about Dyrrn's Tentacle whip? You use bonus action to have it slither in or out your arm, you can't have it taken away from you while attuned and can't untune unless someone removes curse. That represents its clingy nature.

I used this build for a level 7 oneshot, instead of the 4th level in monk i just took a level in fighter for the unarmed fighting style for the d8 damage, and wore black half plate to give me a 16 AC. was pretty fun playing a character that talked to his symbiote while the party thought i was a psychopath.

So I made a Venom-esc character using the Blood Hunter class. If you go for Order of the Lycan and dip four levels into Warlock for range options, that pretty much works.

I played a lizardfolk spores druid that mostly fought bare handed in melee with the symbiotic entity. Felt a lot like a venom build especially since I could use the special bite attack to eat enemies and regain hit points

Slow fall can be expressed as shooting goo arms to reach the ground and slow the fall

Deep Speech would more fitting as the symbiote is more of an aberration than elemental. But not a big deal.

I think these kinds of builds are AWESOME! And I started on the original box sets! As far as an alternate Venom build, how about using Psionics? I dropped out of active play during V. 3.5, due to no group, but I think there could be possibilities ......

Good build. If you wanted the weakness to sonic (thunder) and FIRE and your DM is cool you could get resistance to 2 other damages to compensate (venom can take a hit so in exchange I would say resistance to bludgeoning all the time as he helps heal ( with the promise from your Dm that not all monsters with have thunder if fire attacks of course )

Just checked the Astral Self subclass. Astral Sight doesn't give you darkvision. Darkvision lets you see a bit better in normal darkness only up to 60ft. Really well in dim light and fairly well in full darkness, as well as only in black and white. Astral Sight is like the Devil's Sight Eldritch Invocation, allowing you to see up to 120ft normally in both normal and magical darkness. No dim light vs darkness specifics, no black and white, and darkvision doesn't let you see in, for example, something like the Darkness spell, where Devil's Sight and Astral Sight do. So there is an additional benefit to that level for this build.

Nah the most important part about venom is that "WE are venom". Player 1: small plasmoid aberrant mind sorcerer, take mounted combatant. Cast buff spells on your mount (the other player) and cast tentacle themed spells. Also make a psychic link between you 2. Player 2: play a medium race. Put 1 level in monk and go the rest in barbarian. Take unarmed fighter through fighting innitiate. Could go any barbarian subclass, bear totem works well since you'll be taking all the hits aimed at player 1. Player 1 rides player 2 into battle.

This build is fantastic. I'm curious about what feats people would suggest to enhance this build!

Could you do a character build of Clayface for a video? There's been several versions of Clayface throughout the history of DC's Batman comics, but I want to lean more towards Basil Karlo as Clayface.

I get that you want to stick to source material but I think that your should use body of the astral self for thunder damage because then you could improve the original by helping Venom overcome his weakness

You would've been better off taking barb to lvl5 and taking the fighting initiate armored fighting feat for a d8 unarmed strike. Monk just doesn't give enough to justify. Barb has its own defense and unarmed movement. The d4 martial arts it nothing compared to the d8 unarmed fighting style. And there just aren't enough ki points to matter unless you're taking majority monk with also wouldn't be worth it just because multiclassing leave a lot lacking anyway.

Actually, you aren't "able" to ignore Unarmored Defense from monk, you *HAVE TO.* According to the rules on multiclassing, (PH p. 164), "if you already have the Unarmored Defense feature, *you CAN NOT gain it again from another class.* So here's hopin' this build's WIS never gets higher than its CON ... 😉 I like the build; it's too bad it couldn't afford three levels of fighter, though. Giant's Might from Rune Knight would've gone a long way to help "bulk up" Venom quite a bit. In fact, I could easily see the character as a barbarian 9/fighter 11 multiclass. I do like the way you reimagined the Astral Self monk to make its abilities work thematically with this character, though. 😁
