Kevin Sheedy started coaching essondon in 1981. Won his first 2 premierships 84 and 85. His next 93 and his last in 2000. Made the Grand finale in 2001. I know he coached about six years longer but I believe he deserved that. But he had 20 years and a lot of success. Hardwick is far from finished. He has great energy and I would not hesitate to sign him for at least 5 more years. It not just about premierships. It's about keeping a club competitive and financially successful.

The only thing that stops a coach from moving is the simple fact that the longer they have in the club and with their list, the easier it is for them to implement their game plans. The only reason long term coaches fail is because they don't move with the times and create game plans suitable to the competition.

Paul Feltham 1989 won 5 of 7 last games as interim coach for the Brisbane Bears of all clubs, including the scalp of eventual premier Hawthorn, yet didnt get the gig in 1990

Why do people keep on about Clarkson. His last few years at Hawthorn where disastrous. The recruitment he had them do will leave them in the doldrums for years. His game plan is obsolete. Hire him and their is no chance of a premiership. He was great for his time but that time is over.
