"there are people making money out of having wars, so they're gonna happen" I apreciate how crude and honest this is. It bothers me so much how common is in america the idea that wars happen to guarantee freedom. Thats not true. Its all about money and power.

I served in the Army for 10 years. And I feel like the biggest threat to a service members mental and emotional stability has to do with identity. At the beginning of your training, the objective of the Army was to teach you how to be a Soldier. In the process, you change a little and your mind has been altered to understand that you are one with the other Soldiers you fight with and that you should follow orders unless they are immoral. As Soldiers continue to serve, they lose some of their individuality and become a part of the collective. The problem is that many Soldiers don’t have an identity outside of the uniform. They no longer know who they are because who they are is A Soldier. We all know that it’s true because we can see a soldier in public places wearing civilian clothes and instantly recognize them as a Soldier. There is a look, a way in which we interact with others and move through society. For me, this was all a positive thing. But I was also VERY CONSCIOUS and aware that I had to fight for my individuality. Being a Soldier is what I do; NOT the only thing that defines who I am.

I remember sleeping with a knife under my pillow for a few years after i got out, and as an asian man I agree on the discrimination mainly about the eyes, hand/feet size , height and so forth.

"My mental health was affected by the military" I have literally never met another service member whose mental health hasn't been affected by the military to some degree. I don't even mean that from a PTSD perspective tbh, it's more that the military puts you through training as quickly as possible and then puts you into very difficult situations where you're expected to perform at the level of someone who has been doing it for years.

my heart broke when that one guy said 'my mom said it was because i didn't love her.' it must be terrifying having to go through the things people go through in the military, seeing all that death and hatred and fear, and finally going home to the family you love just to have them doubt that you even love them. i hope he has mended his relationship with his mom :(

There literally are 2 different militaries, the combat section and then the support section. Neither could function without the other but it’s still 2 different worlds

Honestly I struggled with even wanting to get help with my mental state after getting out of the Marines. I think for me it was a pride thing. But honestly once you get out of the military your mental state is not the same as it was before military. And it's ok to get help.

Suggestion: middle ground episode of Africans vs African-American

I really empathize with the Asian guy talking about how difficult his mom is. Asian parents have no understand of psychology or even the simple concept that negative life experiences effect you.

I think the biggest thing civilians should learn, is that not all veterans are combat veterans. Theres some overlap, but there really are 2 different militaries.

One of my friends was in the military and I asked him what he thought about dying for his country. He said “I’m not willing to die for my country. I’m willing to die for the people that are with me fighting for it”

when the army vet started to cry, i really felt that it's frustrating for your family to not understand, you start to blame yourself for not being able to explain it to them properly. i feel like this is why a lot of vets end up ending their life not having someone to speak to that actually understands it gets overwhelming

It doesn't matter who is in office, the president is the president, the oath of enlistment is to America, her people and the United States constitution.

I often hear in America that "American presence is necessary/important" but how would they like it if other countries just came into the USA

When they talk about resources, what the marine says is sooo true. The military does 90% of everything for you so when a person who is 18 who has never worked a day in there life. Who gets out at 30 or 38 they have no idea what to do because within active duty you are always taken care of so the resources for military is extremely hard. With the VA to job security. Taps is kinda helpful but it needs more work.

Ahhh wish they asked something like “should there be mandatory 2-3 year service for every able bodied person” this question is so interesting me and I get such different answers from the military people in my life (military brat here)

I loved this video. Seeing how when the big pictures were presented that they were all one the same page but got to see the differences between them when they disagreed with each other and talk it out was great.

I just want to hug them. I feel bad for everything they go through and how little they get. They also seem so down to earth and they seem like they have been permanently scarred after being pushed to their extremes.

This video was honestly very sobering for me. Both of my parents are retired veterans and I hold a lot of respect for them, and I'd say the same thing for the people represented in this video. When you go to a public place and you have to be able to see the front door I don't think has anything to do with PTSD but more about being aware of your surroundings. This is something I have done since I was a kid. I was always aware of my surroundings.

I have seen about 4-5 episodes, many I didn't like, but never hated. This is by far the most eye opening, transformative, and tear jerking. I love what you all do, i think that there are different ways to ask questions that would be less devisive(not sure that I spelled that correctly as I hate the skynet control over our society). Keep it up, and thank you

this is the first time where i watch a Jubilee video and loved every single participant. All so civil, mature and respectful. Im not military, not even American, but these people make their country proud im sure.

This one was really really well done. Great questions and even better participants that were very articulate. Also, I really liked how all of them were from different branches of the military so we get a true look on the experiences of all of the branches.

It was good to see Ethan apologize on behalf of the people that does bully Asians (minorities) to Abraham. Like he said it may be all just jokes and giggles to bypass time but it does affect others long-term.

Good One!! Loved this episode, it widened my perspective, you picked some awesome candidates! I like the respect and different points of view. I am a VFW myself and never sought any support from the VA, yet I am also a retired LEO and I have more PTSD from that yet there is nowhere to go for Firemen, EMS, Trauma Staff, or Cops... so the Army guy kinda hit the nail on the head for me.

The two most vivid memories that I remember of my brother who was a marine who fought in Viet Nam were him coming home one day and destroying a rifle that he had and him taking over 40 years to share with us the fact his platoon was ambushed one day and the soldier in front on him and the soldier behind hm were killed.

I'm an Indian women, I've just finished law school. And I will be starting my training period in the Indian army next month, in about a year I will be a serving officer for the Indian army. I probably wouldn't see much of your content anymore, but I just wanted to say y'all are doing a great job, keep up the good work. Love from the other side of the world.

I wasn't expecting to like this video as much as I did. I definitely had some biases going in, but I was so excited to be proven wrong. Getting to see such a wonderful and civil dialogue from various perspectives- Jubilee, you are the best!

I really wish Jubilee would of left links to all the "hidden help" that is available for vets. What was said is so true. There's help out there but if you live in a rural area it's a nightmare trying to get services and help.
