You know, by tanning like that you're going to age way faster than your peers. Every time you tan, you're damaging your DNA. This can cause mutations, and with every cycle your body's ability to repair becomes weaker. In a more superficial way means you're going to look way older than your age. Is it worth looking ten years older than you are for a tan? No amount of retinol or facials can repair DNA damage caused by over exposure to UV. Get full spectrum SPF and wear a fake tan. Ask yourself, hypothetically, when you get older do you wanna be the "homely nice mom" or "Stacey's mom"?

I used to go outside all the time as a kid, just happily playing. I'd of course get an incredibly dark tan. People loved it. I loved it. Entering middle school, I started having mental health problems, and I eventually had an abusive boyfriend who thought that darker skinned girls weren't as pretty as lighter skinned girls. It hurt...but I was an idiot. I quit going outside as much. Even after I left that jerk, I didn't really go outside. I just didn't have the motivation to anymore. I'm in high school now, and I'm so...so pale. I feel ugly, for multiple reasons. I just think that maybe if I get my tan back, I'll feel better. I want to feel pretty again.

Oh jesus, I'm so sorry. Abuse is awful, and dealing with it when you're so young and against something you can't easily change is even worse. If it helps you at all, I found that my insecurities about how I looked got better from getting help for my mental health, not the other way around. After high school I finally went back to therapy and got put on meds, and over time as my depression became more manageable it gave me SUCH a confidence boost. My situation is different from yours (I'm white and my insecurities mainly came from abuse growing up, plus from being trans), but I remember having long hair and thinking I'd feel better with short hair, and then having short hair and thinking long hair would feel better, etc. It was only after some introspection and getting help for my mental health that my self-image improved for me to really enjoy the changes to my appearance that I wanted. But going out, having fun, and getting exercise will _absolutely_ help your mental health, so I recommend that first! At first it's hard, but if you force yourself to even just go and sit outside for 15 minutes a day for a couple weeks or something, it'll become a habit and be easier, and you can move on from there. And as a bonus, it should naturally get you a tan, you can use that as your motivation. And also, like... you CAN get the product if you want. There's nothing wrong with you using it, this video is mostly just about being aware that wearing this will not protect your skin and you should wear sunscreen, especially when you're gonna be out in the sun for a long time. Sorry for the long comment, and I wish you the best. You're valuable because you're you, no matter what you look like, don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.

@@Marispider Thank you so much for this. You really made my day just now! I'm already going to therapy, so that should help. I'm planning on going outside more when it warms up a bit. I'm going down to Florida next summer to visit my older brother, so that should help, too! Thank you so much for taking the time to type so much...you seriously cheered me up.
