Not sure how many foreigners came during the 50s (Windrush et al) though there were a lot of Poles and others from Europe. My grandad had a huge family and kept having kids until late in life. His youngest son, my father, was born in '45. Grandpa was born in 1896 which means he fought in WW ONE! Some of my folks were in WWII but most were not due to age. I revered them, honored them and still do. YOU should NEVER feel poorly for your granddad.... EVER! Do you understand me? I'm serious....
