Mosquitoes suck. Literally. So what's the most effective way to get rid of them. A lot of people will use bug zappers this summer in their backyards and on their patios. But do bug zappers actually work? And how do bug zappers work? Sheryl breaks down the chemical and electrical components of bug zappers, as well as the reasons you probably don't actually want a bug zapper near you.

I had a UV bug zapper on my deck last year and the mosquito carcasses were enormous. I dont care if male or female, they were overpopulated and I was glad to kill as many as possible. The other insects killed was not even noticeable.

Ya, mine killed thousands of mosquitos the first night along with 3 moths. There’s already a huge noticeable difference in the population. It also killed 3 moths which isn’t anymore than get get caught on the spiders web light. Beneficial insects are great and I’ll definitely quit running it once the population is under control. You should also place you zapper away from human activity for reasons mentioned in this video.

Mine did too. I was thinking 5% sounded like a low number of mosquitos killed when I had a mound of dead ones from my bug zapper.

Every year my family would get eaten alive by mosquitos. I decided to take action I purchased the Dynatrap, The balckflag zapper, and black and Decker zapper. I put them around my house. I also put hanging yellow sticky fly traps..it was like 4th of july..no more mosquito bites..

I made my own bug zapper. I disabled the UV light and put in a couple of dirty sock then hung it outside the window. The thing was going off all night and after about a week there was quite a pile of mosquitoes and flies in the tray under the zapper. Had to change the socks every once is a while, but worked well.

I have neighbors in a two apartment setup above a small factory and we share a porch. They started putting up a bug zapper last summer which sounded great.....at first. Then, I noticed every night a TON of bugs came to our porch that would never have been there otherwise because of the zapper and most of them don't go to the zapper. Most of them hang out on our porch on the walls and I'd get swarmed with moths and other shit, even a locust came up to our porch one night! We never have bugs except a few flies that keep flying in circles on our porch in the day time, but they leave it on 24 hours a day and I felt like I was in a jungle when I go outside to have a cigarette. I hate it. They just put it back up today and I'm gonna freak out. Also last summer, I never had bugs in my place until that damn light went up. A bunch of gnats started coming up there and they found a way into my apartment and I'd see them all the time.

The only thing I do with my bug zapper, I just leave it in my bedroom to zap the mosquitoes in the room one hour before sleeping. If it zaps something else, it's usually clothe bugs or flies, and generally insects that I would kill anyway if I saw them in my room

I live near a river so I get a lot of them little bastards. I find mosquito coils the most effective way to keep them away and I don't really mind the smell but my sister always seems to get dizzy and lite headed whenever she smells the burning coils. I will try a fan tonight in our outdoor setting and see how it goes.

YOU get an A+ for passion, energy and delivery. Just when I was considering a SUPER large bug zapper that would cover 2+ acres, I'm rethinking my plan that just maybe there are some other ways to solve my bug problem. (I like another comment where a guy took out the UV light and replaced it with his socks) These "odd" ideas are noteworthy choices to consider. Keep up the good work, and get your own TV series on national geographic.

For outdoor areas the Mosquito Magnet which uses propane is specially designed to control the mosquito population over a two to three month period, it mimics CO2 that is emitted by the human body to trick mosquitoes and it gets sucked in with a vacuum. UV light will only attract a certain percentage of mosquito and other insects as well. For indoors I would use a combination of UV bug zapper and an ozone generator to get it it under control. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aM-TeLumvtvej4k.html

What about flies biting animals? Best way to keep em away? I see animals get sprayed. Some with organic safe stuff. And salt licks with garlic. But flies just multiply. Maybe put fly strips hanging off farm friends? Idk just food for thought.

If you're talking about domestic agricultural animals, I know there are some good Integrated Pest Management options available! I'm not aware of all of the specifics, but I had a friend who did research on parasitic wasps that controlled filth fly populations, so there are often less "harsh" ways of dealing with those larger-scale problems, too.

To be clear, scientists' best guess at the moment is that SARS-CoV-2 may have originated in bats, but also that the disease spread to humans from a different animal. Also, the specific viral "species" that caused the pandemic has not been isolated from any bat species, and a similar virus was only isolated from a single bat species in China. Malaria, just one of many diseases vectored by mosquitoes, kills around 627,000 people each year, and rather than being a pandemic that flares up and recedes, malaria is a chronic problem. Other diseases vectored by mosquitoes cause these insects to be responsible for between 725,000 to 1 million deaths *every year*

Very good video to discourage everybody from having bug zappers because humans bad. I however think mosquitoes are also useful insects. They are responsible for pollenating more plants than bees and they are 80% of the food source for many other living things that eat flying insects. But there is nothing wrong with someone killing all of them and many other bugs within an acre of their cabin that is amongst millions and millions of acres were mosquitoes are free to exist amongst us life loving humans.
