All those people, who abandon their elderly cats or leave them behind when they move house, need to see this (sadly - there would probably still be little remorse). It completely demolishes that myth about feline aloofness. Kodi's clearly not just a cat that enjoys a good yowl - he's looking for something that's gone. And by the way he keeps approaching the door - he apparently knows the thing he's lost went that way.

Many years ago I went on vacation in the summer time and left my cat home, with my parents. He was an indoor/outdoor cat so he not only was in his own familiar surroundings but also well taken care of with food and activities. When I finally came home he was on the other side of the yard. As soon as he heard and saw me he sprinted across the yard and practically jumped up into my arms to greet me. If ANYBODY ever says cats are unfeeling they're full of shit. That cat adored me almost as much as I did him!

Of course our puddies miss us. I recently left for a month. When I called home and my wife put me on speaker my babies would all come to see where I was. When I finally came home, all 6 of my babies came blazing from all over the house to greet me as I entered the house. It was such a sweet sight to see. My babies! Whoever says cats are aloof, don't show love and such are full of it.

I was playing with my friends’ cat Sandy while my friends were away. We heard a car outside. Sandy perked up and went to wait by the door. I said, “Sandy, that could be anyone.” But it was my friends returning. She has good hearing and could recognize the sound of their specific car.

I'm baby sitting my brothers cat for a few days while he's out of town. I've never seen a cat so sad and distressed before. He's crying and always running to the front door when he hears a car drive by cus he thinks its his daddy. So yes. They very much do miss their owners.

My little boy, Cosmo, has done this ever since I adopted him at 6 months old. He grew up in a monitored feral colony until he was discovered to be very bloated. He was brought in for worm treatment and it didn’t take long for me to get attached. He was there for about a month and I wanted to adopt him. Because I volunteered at the shelter, had lots of experience, and no other pets, my application was accepted right away. I brought him home and placed him in his own room and it took him about four days to get comfortable to finally come out every time I went in to visit and play. After I felt he was completely comfortable, I let him out to explore the whole place. He became the happiest kitty I have ever seen, always by my side, sleeping on his back all the time, etc. Once he got to be about 12-14 months, that’s when I started to notice that he had anxiety about me leaving. I had a part time job and once I left, he would start to cry at the door. I lived with my grandma to take care of her and he wasn’t lonely nor was it ever completely silent in the house because she always had the tv on, but he would still cry after I left. When I would return, I could hear him on the other side of the door crying as if to say, “She’s home! She’s home! Come in, I missed you!” This crying wouldn’t stop until I came inside. This past February I moved to my own apartment and his first night there was not fun! He cried all through the night and just wouldn’t stop! After two hours of trying several different techniques to calm him down, it was getting hot in my room. I opened my window and he suddenly stopped. Due to rules in my apartment, I couldn’t have my window open if the temperature was below 55 degrees. But if the window wasn’t open, he would cry and I didn’t want to create a noise disturbance. No one complained about him, but if I didn’t keep the window open then I knew he would eventually. He is coming up on 2 years old and his behavior is very similar to the behavior displayed by the cat in this video. I say goodbye to him every morning as I leave the room and from outside up to the open window. After my car pulls away, that’s when his anxiety builds into a short crying attack. After about 3-4 minutes, he is calm once again. Cats do miss us when we leave, there is no doubt about that! They miss us just as much as a typical dog would!

I always tell the cats that I'll be going out. Then before I go I make sure they have food and tell them how long I'll be gone. If I'll be gone long enough that the cats require an attendant, I'll tell them about that too. And I've been known to leave the TV on to keep them entertained.

This is so sad! :( My cats came to the rescue, looking around my laptop searching for the meowing cat. But poor baby!! Like, I know my cats miss us when we leave, because the go to the window on the front side of our house, which is next to the door, and when we lock the door, you see them looking at us and meowing and it breaks my heart every single time... :'(

The way the cat meows is so heartbreaking-- as if it was really crying... it got me tearing up. And then my own cat just meowed at me and hopped over to my bed after she heard me sniffling. God, I love her.

I thought cats can be left alone atleast for few hours but if my cat misses me like this i would never leave her side. 💓

I had to stay out of town in hospital with my husband for four weeks. My Mom went every day to feed animals & pack stuff for us. When I finally was able to go home, one kitty had a rash, a couple of my most love-bugs wouldn't even come to me at first, others swarmed around my ankles, reaching for me. I swear some of the meows changed! Separation anxiety is a real issue with both cats & dogs. For short periods, leaving on tv or radio can help. Leaving a blanket or garment that smells like you in their bed can be good for those weekends away.

My cat is such a great cat, when I’m gone he runs around the house meowing for hours. When I come back his eyes just light up, and he puts his paws on me and I pick him up and he gives me his little kisses on my face. I love him.

While watching your video, my cat woke up from his nap, got very concerned, realized the meowing was coming from my laptop, and then walked onto my laptop to get as close to your cat as possible. Super sweet and yet super sad. Makes me wonder if, perhaps, my cat acts the same way when I leave home. Sometimes I'm gone for hours and hours on end, which I hate because I worry about my cat the whole time. Then when I come home, my cat always runs to the door to greet me -- almost relieved or grateful that I did come home and that I didn't abandon him or die. Again, it's very bittersweet. :/

Usually my cat Daisy ignores cat meows from the computer but poor Kodi's cries were so mournful that Daisy got really upset and I had to turn the sound off.

That's why I have 2 cats, they give each other a lot of company.

What a sweetheart

I raised my two cats in my room for the first two weeks when we got them (from eight week old kittens, to now at 2 years). They love me to death, and every time I get home from school they run to my room so they can be with me. Every morning when I open my door they come rushing in, even if they were just asleep on the other side of the house, cause they can always hear me and they always want to be with me. I hate leaving them home alone, but they have each other, and I'll always come back.

Thats why you dont keep cats alone... I have four of them, but everyone should have at least two ^^
