Do yourself a HUGE favor! 1)Replace that tiny antenna with the OTR truck antenna! Much more dB gain! 2) for absolute best reception, keep your phone right up against the inside antenna EVEN IF It’s an area type antenna. 3) you cannot rely on the signal indicator (bars) to tell you your ACTUAL signal strength! If you have an iPhone, go into field test mode to see your ACTUAL signal strength in -dB numbers. The lower the numbers the better the signal. To enter field test mode on an iPhone go to your phone dial pad and enter *star3001#12345**#star* then call. Click on LTE , then click on serving cell meas, then look for rsrp0 . That is your actual signal strength in -dB terms. Usually anything below -90 dB’ sis about a 2-3 bar signal regardless what the bars show. -30 to -40 db is the BEST signal and at about -120 to -130 dB is about the point where you loose signal altogether . I have the Weboost 4G-X OTR in my semi truck with the antenna mounted high up. Weboost says it’s a “ up to 32 times” gain but I’ve gotten as much as 52 times gain from it. The confusing part about it though is you can be near a cell tower and the booster will power WAY down and you’ll only have 1 bar of signal showing. This is normal. The booster must power down to prevent damage to the cell tower. On the other hand the booster will get pretty hot when it’s working it’s ass off trying to bring in a signal as well. Hope this helps. Got this information strait from a tech from Weboost.

I researched the WeBoost reach "FLEET" unit. This kit is for those who would want to hardwire the entire unit into a vehicle which includes a power supply that wires directly into the vehicle's accessory power circuit, "keyed on power". It also comes with a permanent roof mount antenna. I am not interested in having loose wires in my vehicle's interior or exterior either.

Wilson boosters work pretty good. Use them on my work rig. Zero service without it. Service almost everywhere with it.

So can you help me understand something with these boost devices? Do these boosters give you better cell signal where you can make calls/texts easier where they would normally be dropping calls or failing to send texts. Or do these boosters just extend the reach and allow for more internet service and not effect the calls/texts at all?

Both? If there is no service, this won’t help. If there is a bit of signal, you’ll be able to do more, better.

Satellite phones are the way to go. I have Iridium 9575 and have full BARS everywhere.

True BUT it also requires a separate monthly bill usually on a contract.

truckindawg1 I am on SIM card and no contract, I can cancel/upgrade or downgrade with no extra fees. I go to Death Valley a lot and I tried everything and nothing really works out there.

I'm glad he touched on the fact that you can't boost a signal that isn't there. I try to explain this to people buying signal amplifiers for their home antennas and they have a tough time grasping the concept after all the fudging of the truth that marketing contains. I certainly factor in anecdotal evidence. I've still just never actually seen filmed evidence of a booster like this actually working in real time. Maybe I'm not watching the right vids.

I've been researching these and so far the consensus is WeBoost is the best. Now there are antenna setups that are more effective than that little omni antenna Mike is using and probably worth it, though they are larger so space is a consideration, and are not usable while moving.

I got one for my overland and it does nothing. was around 400 dollars. Tested in west texas, odessa, Pecos, Fort Davis...didn't do jack.

Larger antenna and magnetic mount instead of double sided tape and ceiling mounted instead of dash mounted for me. Otherwise decent setup

Nice review. Slim Potatoehead did a review of the We Boost I believe he ended up getting a directional antenna. Great guy to follow he does a quality video like you do.

With cell boosters, it helps having cell service with the booster on before you lose it. Instead of turning it on after losing service and trying to find it all together. while its minimal.

They have one made for semi trucks in that is a larger antenna, that’s hard mounted.

TL;DW: yes they work. There needs to be at least some signal in the area to be boosted. In general if you’re traveling anywhere there could be spotty reception, they are a great investment.

IT'S NOT ABOUT BARS!! its about signal speeds....do some research. And mine works much better with the accessory antennae QTR, diff of night and day. My cell sig is 20x greater with Reach & QTR than basic cell alone in my off road areas. Bars don't indicate this fact. But true, need to be where there is some signal which won't show a bar on your phone. there are signal strength APPS for a phone to indicate this.

Short answer is no boosters don't work no videos show them actually improving signal honestly think boosters are a scam let's slap some $40 worth of cables together with a box say it does something sell it for $500 minimum it dosent do anything but you think it does and it's the thought that counts.
