Swing traders vs day traders - who makes more money? Do day traders make more money than swing traders? Swing traders vs day traders, who makes more money? This is a bit of a broad question and it is going to depend on the person. There are people out there making significant monies day trading but there are also many people who lose money day trading. It is basically the same with swing trading. I love day trading but I think swing traders will make more money. There are multiple restrictions with day trading including the trade size, time and movement. With day trading you are exchanging your time for money to some extent. Don't mistake me, you can still make substantial amounts of money day trading. OK.

Definitely a subjective topic. I’ve tried my hand at both but found more success with swing trading as my temperament is better suited to it. It’s all about knowing what suits your personality.

In terms of starting out, I believe that day trading is better because you are trading more often and are able to have a much quicker feedback loop. This means that you have a bigger database of your trades and can improve much faster

Swing trading can be mastered. Day trading is a matter of playing the odds - like counting cards. Day trading has far far more random noise to it, swings are far more predictable. Day traders get rich quick - but they can go broke twice as fast.

I needed this Video . I was trying to plan my scale up as my account grows and I kept hitting limits with day trading , I actually thought I would have to take 20-30 trades using smaller size . now I know to head towards swing trading once i have build a good enough account .

Who is making more money is a very subjective question. As a swing trader you can also lose money while sleeping. The shorter the time period of trading, the more stressful it is. Who can manage stress, he can make serious money. Finding a proven strategy suitable to your personality, cold blooded trading mentality, money management (win rate, rr ratio) is what makes you profitable, and that is the only thing that matters.

It's a personality thing - good day traders are extremely fast witted characters - even when you listen to them talk they're pretty wired up and love all the action every day. I like swing trading. Don't like constant screen time and putting trades on and off. I enjoy reading charts with my time and look closely at the different companies closer. It's just what suits your personality as the cliche goes.

Good video Mark, i feel inherently swing trading is more difficuly, due to the fact that your analysis and knowledge of the markets have to be correct for the foreseeable future rather than that the next 6 hours. Both are profitable but swing traders have a real edge in the sense they can pyramid positions over this time horizon in essence compouding there gains, which is somewhat unrealistic with day trading.

Currently, I consider trading as a job and do only day trading. A lot of opportunities with M5 and M15 during the day, with high volatility pairs like GBP/USD, GBP/CAD, GBP/JPY, GBP/AUD

Very helpful video, i can definitley understand your points i will still keep daytrading and doing my thing but i feel like this video is in a scenario where you're the best swing trader in the world or the best day trader and in that scenario the swing trader would be most profitable so essentially it's all up to what you're good at but if you're really good at swing trading you will make more money than something good at day trading

Day Trading even if profitable won't make you rich. You need high risk reward ratio like 1:5 or greater to make big money. Day trading doesn't offers opportunity like 1:5 . You are good day trader if you are consistently making 1:2 .

I do way much better for years if I day trade. I trade average less than 1 hour per day, which gives me lots of time for other things. It depends on the strategy that fits your character.

Swing trading would require more capital I assume because you are keeping your holdings and the turn over is over a longer term. Is it then safe to assume that day trading is the means I can use to build capital to then move into swing trading?

I feel given the same amount of capital a good intraday trader will be more efficient in applying that capital, or putting that capital to work. A swing trader could make 20% on the year with a million dollar account or 200k. A really good day trader could make 200k in a year using a far less capital.

If your starting of and have less capital, is day trading better because you have tighter stops apposed to taking more risk in swing due not wanting to be kicked out by a consolidation phase ? Or am I missing some factors ?

Definitely relative, I’ve made -23000 swing trading however I’ve made a very decent profit day trading, but I also know traders that are only profitable swing trading. It comes down to ability and personality.

i remember trading by way of buying hard currency, putting it in a safe for a year or two and then exchanging it, one must have a certain style for intraday/short term trading whereby one sits and stares at a screen all day often in vain and then misses a nice move later where the swing trader capitalizes while reading the newspaper. Can someone elaborate on the (my) glaring hangup when it comes to Swing Trading; Are you not loosing profits when you swing trade a position over and over? Lets say you buy AMD for $107 and swing trade it. You sell a week later at $110, you made a profit! But wait, you want to swing trade back in on AMD because its over selling and over buying consistently. *WOULDNT THE PRICE OF AMD* have to hit *AT* or *BELOW* your sell price of $110, in order for you to make a profit?? I hope I made sense here.

I swing trade but on the lower time frames and the result is much better than when am holding trades for two weeks or more.of course swing trading higher time frames allows you to get into more trades but i prefer just focusing on one currency pair and swing trading the hell out of it in the lower time frame

Topic is pretty much subjective depending on personality of trader and working capital and position choose for trading. Yesterday I earned $52 in an account of $334. Within three days I earned $30 from my $100 account. One must not forget technical analysis in forex market is an art not science. I daily look out for video upload by this channel. They are pretty much good and free.

For those who get offended at him telling you that swing traders can make more money, you've got nothing to worry about because the vast majority of the population don't have the asset for your trading style to affect you in any meaningful way. Also, if you do have the size, you probably are swing trading because you already know from past experience; or else you wouldn't have gotten to the point where you are at right now, with the sum of money you have needing to swing trade. Theoretically speaking, yes swing traders can make more money, but that usually applies to hedge funds, banks, and industries. If you're a retail trader, it's very very unlikely that you've reached that cap for day trading for it to matter.

For me, scalping is a million times better. 1) less stress due to being all cash by end of day and no overnight news distorting your play 2) scalping means you're entering into a trade right about to or moving into the direction you expect for xyz reasons and exiting before it ends or hits resistance 3) much more consistent. Although the % gains are smaller, the execution, win rate is extremely high compared to swing trading. I'd rather have 9.5 out of 10 scalps work in my favor for a smaller, but cumulatively profitable day versus a 6-6.5 out of 10 swing trades working, but larger profits. Less consistent, more stress. To think about it, I kinda hate swing trading. Investing and scalping only.

In a perfectly trending world that makes sense but unfortunately the market is very choppy and swing trading is very risky. It exposes you to holding losers much longer thinking that it will go back to its highs , just to find you're self in a deeper hole. That's my 2 cents.
