using "for the sake of the world (without words)" as the opening track was such a beautiful way to subtly convey your message of empathy and your channel's overarching theme that your business isn't self-serving or where you find your identity. small detail but powerful stuff so kudos to you

Aw man, I wish I could take credit for that one, but that was definitely some beautiful serendipity. Absolutely love that you're looking for things like that though because I've been loving putting easter eggs in to everything I make now.

this is such an opposite mindset to what I feel like everyone tells me, especially at where I am now in the very beginning stages of my creative business. i love this. i love how you're spreading the message that you don't need to squash empathy to be successful. it's so real and I feel myself thinking "how dare you", or "they don't even know how much work I do" types of thoughts so often lately. the busy of it all makes me forget why I originally do what I do. I do photography and videography and creative projects bc i love it and I love people and I love making art and connecting with people over art. "love is patient love is kind love keeps no record of wrongs love forgives..." (-Corinthians 13:4-8). and in the context of wedding videography (I'm shooting my first wedding next month🎉) it's an important and stabilizing message you spread in this video. thank you for sharing it !!

So, so good! This hit home for me. It's been a struggle to balance life and the things that matter and continue to find joy in shooting weddings this year. We diversified and took on school volume photography in order to grow the business and continue doing this for a living. Thanks for your honesty and introspection.

Thank you so much Eric for editing and putting together this deep KZfaq video. Our team and I have just expanded by adding in more creatives to our team and even doing more weddings this year moving forward. This video spoke SOO MUCH VOLUME about how we should look at taking care of couples, other professional vendors we work with on top of ourselves. Thank you so much, this video inspired me to take this message and apply it to my professional and personal life.

Strong hobbyist here. Lost my passions for photography because of work + two young kids. Your video resonates more than just being an artist. As a working professional, i find myself hating my boss and time at work more and more because of the sacrifices towards family and my hobby. You are right. We need to be mindful of who we are being selfish / selfless to. It is balance, and there is no winning. But making the right choices at each intersection, I hope to come out the other side, still intact and passionate about photography.

I'm at the start of my wedding filmmaking career, and I'm coming up on a month where I'll shoot three weddings... and it'll be a process figuring out how to juggle giving the time and creativity that each one deserves, along with other work and commitments. If you have any advice for how to balance that desire to give each client the very best with the realities of growing a young business... I'm all ears! 😁 Great message and it's awesome to see your openness and vulnerability.
@EricFloberg
@EricFloberg 2 ай бұрын
Oh man, I feel this. I’ve been there for sure. One thing I wish I did was give each film 80-90%. Not 100% - it feels counter-intuitive given my philosophy of serving my clients & giving my best, but if you’re giving 100% every time, the latter ones will be half as good, and you’ll feel burnt out. It’s a balance of making some of the things the same, but differentiating each one enough to give the film the uniqueness it deserves. Your clients will rarely ever notice your 85% versus your 100%. 100 on each one is entirely unsustainable at that volume.
@BrianSellers
@BrianSellers 2 ай бұрын
@@EricFlobergWhat is this 80-90% of which you speak?? 🤣 That’s great advice, and I hear what you’re saying. It’s not about giving anyone a bad product; it’s about figuring out how to tell a unique story without having to pour EVERYTHING into EVERY film. Maybe I’ll write that down on a post-it and stick it to my monitor… 🤔 Thanks, man - I appreciate you!

The daddy-daughter moment. Ah. So good. Melissa and I are having our fourth child in the next three weeks. Life is very full, but so very good. I think this take on creative business is so key. Selflessness is not something often championed in the artist world, but truly it is one of the most life-giving habits to your creativity and to your soul to serve selflessly with your art.

It’s such a tricky balance. I’m convinced that if you want to be doing them really well and really creatively, they have to almost be your sole focus.
@hearttoheartstories4410

Another part of the equation is volume does affect your work life balance and life outside of your craft. Unless you scale your business big enough that you don’t have to handle the day to day operations which kind of defeats the purpose of creative work. Tough balance. 😆
