What a fun video and way of checking for favorite authors. I like your idea of excluding authors that you only read one series of and have no interest in anything else by them.

For Hilary Mantel I would definitely recommend A Place of Greater Safety which is huge but set during the French Revolution and I found just as immersive as the Thomas Cromwell Trilogy.

I’m probably most tempted by that one, only the size has been putting me off 😂

@@CoynieReads you need to read it! Also The Giant O'Brien, which is shorter. Not sure how you'd feel about Beyond Black

I love this video!! I like the rule of “not from the same series.” I😊

It definitely tripped me up a few times but I do think worth considering- when is it the world building of the series I’m liking and when is it something else about the author’s writing that appeals to me?

Kristen Hannah and Stacy halls are on my list for historical fiction and Paige toon and Heidi swain from the contemporary. Other than those we do have some in common such as Alison weir and Ali hazelwood

Ooh I’ve never read any Kristen Hannah and I will confess I didn’t enjoy the Stacey Halls that I have read! And I’ve read nothing from your contemporary authors so I’ll have to look into them!

Loved this! According to this my favourites are: Hilary Mantel Pat Barker Jane Austen Georgette Heyer Bernardine Evaristo Thomas Hardy Daphne du Maurier Sarah Moss Jennifer Saint Obviously without the series or 3 or more rule - Sarah Winman, Natalie Haynes, Madeline Miller & Tolkien would be on this list. For Hilary Mantel, A Place of Greater Safety is a brilliant work of historical fiction. Her non fiction is also fab, Giving Up the Ghost got me through some difficult times. Mantel Pieces is such a personal and fascinating collection of essays which gave a brill insight into her brain

Ooh I’ve only read one Sarah Moss but I did enjoy it! One to look into again!

Ooh lovely! I’ve only read one each from Ray Bradbury, Neil Gaiman and Shirley Jackson and nothing from Terry Pratchett, I always worry I won’t get on with his humour 🤔

@CoynieReads Definitely Jane Austen. I would also say J.R.R Tolkien but not sure if he qualifies. I love Madeline Miller, for sure. Agatha Christie. There are so many!

I think Anne Bronte should count, since you love everything she ever wrote. Poor Anne, if only she'd lived longer! ❤ Please do continue with L.M. Montgomery. Everything she wrote was wonderful! Going by these qualifying factors, my favourite authors are... Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Charlotte Bronte (and Anne!), Wilkie Collins, Joseph Conrad, Charles Dickens, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Daphne du Maurier, Alexandre Dumas, George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, Wayne Johnston, Stephen Graham Jones, Erik Larson, C.S. Lewis, L.M. Montgomery, George Orwell, William Shakespeare (that one surprises me!), Lemony Snicket, John Steinbeck, H.G. Wells, and P.G. Wodehouse. Interesting!

Yes, I think the way forward may just be to say “The Brontës” as a collective 😂 definitely will need to read more L.M Montgomery!

The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue emotionally destroyed me, and I mean that as a recommendation. Dan Jones would also make my list although, with the exception of Magna Carta, different books. If you like Powers and Thrones I would recommend The Plantagenets and The Hollow Crown. Claire Keegan, Judy Blume, and Agatha Christie all make my list too.

I think if I follow your rules it's only Hilary Mantel (Cromwell, APOGS, Beyond Black & The Giant O'Brien all over 4 stars) and Naomi Klein (Doppelganger, This Changes Everything & The Shock Doctrine). Zadie Smith almost makes it with two five stars (white teeth, on beauty) and two 3.75 (North West, The Fraud). And I have loads i've only read two from. So maybe I need to read more of those to see who makes it

Emma Donghue's Haven is terrific and might tip the scales for you. And for classic Dickens, Tale of Two Cities. My favorite of his books...I don't think it was on your list.
