You should give as much as you can. God loves a cheerful giver. If you tithe do it the right way. There 3 types of tithe described in the Bible (1)...Abraham tithed once in his life time. He gave the spoils of the war not his properties. If you ever win a war give the spoils of the war. (2)...The Pharisees tithed mint, dill and cumin (3)...The Priests (Levites) did not have inheritance. They did not own the land. The other 11 tribes of Israel were to give them tithe. Pick one and do it rightly. Remember if you pick # 3 you have to obey the other 613 laws.

In both the OT and NT, giving represents a form of worship. The Law was given to instruct God’s people in the way of righteousness and holiness. Later, Paul addresses the believer’s attitude towards giving. How do we apply this today? While we shouldn’t give grudgingly nor out of necessity, the mark of a mature believer is one who GIVES. The spirit behind your offering reflects your love for Christ, his Church and his Kingdom.

It is time the Gospel Coalition took a definite stand on this question. We keep getting opposite answers from the same source. What is the new believer who is not into yet fully immersed into the Bible conclude? I believe this conversation strikes right at the truth of the New Testament.

I didn't hear anything wrong! The guy answered the question scripturally/accurately! On the other hand, most people who wrestle with this, are people who really just don't want to give anyway! We should give as God prospers us. It is a privilege to be able to advance the Kingdom of God. Giving is a spiritual principle/law. We reap what we sow (much more). However, time spent with God (prayer) will guide us in giving, because in order to reap a harvest, we must be sowing in good ground! Also, if you're not going to give CHEERFULLY, it's pointless to give.

Well said.... another reason not to enforce tithing as a law is that after Jesus died, was buried and was raised from the dead the law was fulfilled.... we do not live in the dispensation of the old testament or the mosaic laws..... we are to give as God purposed in our heart NOT stand in the $50 line to give! that is NOT of God. Tithing is NOT a sin to continue to follow.... but tithing is held over peoples heads just to gain revenue for the support of not just the church but to support a pastor.... tithing has to do with crops and animals an not cash but many pastors has twisted tithing to include currency. this video or should I say the scriptures clears all that confusion.... how can the church pay the bills.... because the congregation SHOULD support the ministry. the only way to do that is through currency and volunteer work inside the church. I believe in giving to the church but I dont see tithing as a commandment in the new testament.... people pick and choose which mosaic laws to follow and not follow.... like.... God didnt have to write in the new testament not to have sex with animals for you to understand that commandment is perpetual..... but there are hundreds of LAWS that a modern life can not follow! I have no oxen or land to plow! I have not sheep or goats to sacrifice..... pastors lie, churches lie and twice the bible to force people to give.... but giving should be centered on the principals of supporting the ministry and helping OTHERS not based on following a LAW that no longer exists. but if you tell a pastor or preacher they are wrong they will try to rebuke you for sharing the TRUTH! because they feel their title makes them smarter about the bible than you.... the truth is truth and the bible is the truth. enough said.... you cant argue with the bible. Give whats in your heart NOT based on a percentage or a set amount! give to support the church ministry and give to help others in need...

Why suggest giving 10% as a guiding rule? In light of everything said that seems completely arbitrary and, at the very least, borders on legalism.

old testament law tithe had nothing to do with money, and it was only to be given to "Levitical" priests Tithing is not "giving" - Tithing is tax... Christians should give (to much is given, much is required) additionally, this whole concept supports the organization known as "the church", not THE CHURCH - Did Jesus die for us to create a collection of independent non-profit bushiness? The whole premise is upside down.

Powerful point you have just made. There's a scripture in 1st or 2nd Timothy where says, " if a man cannot support his family or relatives he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel(unbeliever)." So it stands to reason that the tithes and offerings concept in today's modern world is a sham, what a racket. Additionally I saw a youtube video where someone did research explaining why the church has jumped on the bandwagon of pushing tithes and offerings. It goes back to the 6th century and churches started to grow and pastors had to figure out a way to get money. My thing is, why not just ask for whatever funds you need, don't blatantly lie to people about scripture, that's dangerous. Preachers put people under so much stress and strain about money. A common practice I've seen is a pastor decides to get a megachurch size building for people to gather and the reality is the only presence that filling this giant place. The pastor is in over his head financially, and that burden shouldn't fall on the backs of the members. That person shouldn't dream and fantasize with people's money like that.

We don't have to tithe, we get to tithe. In the scriptures, tithing is a means of honoring God(Prov 3:9). Abraham honored God by tithing before the Law was even given(Heb 7:1-2). Able brought an offering to God looonnnggg before the Law was given(Gen 4:4). By tithing, we acknowledge God as our source, so that even though we have 10% less, we know He will super charge the remaining 90% so that our purchasing power is greater than if we had kept the 100%. I've tithed from the time I became a Christian up until this day, which is many, many years. Through life's ups and downs God has never failed to honor that commitment with special provision. Blessings in terms of health, promotion at work and most importantly being used in part time ministry. Tithing just works. It works because it requires faith to do it and faith pleases God(Heb 11:6). Sometimes I even do special exploits in faith, where I will quadruple tithe(40%). I do it anonymously. The blessings that follow are thrilling. It seems the greater the step of faith, the greater the blessing. So to me, it's just silly to quibble over a tithe when it can so enhance your walk with the Lord.

If we were tithing according to scripture we wouldn't be giving money to a religious institution. There's no such thing as a biblical monetary tithe. The statement "we know He will super charge the remaining 90% so that our purchasing power is greater than if we had kept the 100%" isn't biblical. There's also no biblical promise for health or anything else for giving money to a religious institution or any curse for not doing so. Giving is another matter. But we are free to give, not bound to pay.

Unfortunately these brothers did not clarify the difference between NT “giving” and the OT “tithe.” None of the verses that were quoted to describe the traits of “giving” have nothing to do with the tithe. The reality is that if Jesus is lord of our lives then he is lord of all of our time, talents and treasure (wealth). NT giving may require more than 10% or it may be less depending on how the Lord is leading.

I agree with this-except I question whether or not it HAS to be to our local church. My question is, do I have to give to the church if we don’t agree with how the church spends its money? We cannot give cheerfully anymore because of some decisions that are being made. Is that wrong? Would love to hear thoughts on this. I will say we do give generously to various local faith based organizations and missionaries we know...Is that wrong to just have our giving be to them? Thanks so much.

Matthew 6:21 (ESV): For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. If you don't like what your church is doing with the money, I would maybe ask why you're attending that church. It sounds like you're not in agreement as far as the church's mission and vision. Church members should want to give to their church, because they want to see it thrive, and do the work God has placed on the heart of that particular congregation. I would ask myself why I don't give to my church, and also why I continue to stay. Weigh those two things out, pray for God's direction. (Whether it be to realign your heart to that of your current church, or calling you to a new church home.)

Quenton Willis yes. This is where it gets complicated. We AGREE with the mission and vision, but how they carry it out is where we don’t agree. Methodology. Most churches around us are the same....turning worldly....pleasing the world.....because that’s what everyone else is doing. ....but they would SAY they are not. They adhere to biblical truth, sound doctrine, but the methods and choices to us say something different. It’s so complicated.

But Jesus even said to the Pharisees, you tithe but don’t negate the weightier matters of love, mercy and grace, amen! Right there in the New Testament
@markb7067
@markb7067 3 жыл бұрын
One of the most referenced verses in regards to tithing in the New Testament is Mathew 23:23-24 where Jesus said “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law-justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.” Many note that Jesus is recognizing tithing in this passage but ignore that what the Pharisees were tithing had nothing to do with money. The items “mint, dill, and cumin” are spices - produce items. It’s also noteworthy that Jesus is indicting the Pharisees, not praising them in the true context of this passage. The fact that they were practicing tithing according to the law doesn’t excuse their negligence of spiritual “more important” matters - “justice, mercy, and faithfulness.” Tithing was a compulsory statute under Mosaic Law that is now obsolete. Spiritual decisions indicate the condition of the heart as a result of free will choice. It is this that Jesus is emphasizing in this passage.

amen!! because tithe is just the minimum in reality.. if you are a cheerful giver you give more than tenth of what you have!!!!! sad to say people who doesnt believe in tithing give a very small percentage of thier income... thats where he problem lies... they purposely dobt want to believe in tithing because they put God last in thier list that whatever is left of thier money then they give a very small amount to God... and ridicule believers who wants to give back the tenth to the Lord cheerfully...

Not even Jesus himself was qualified, accordig to the Mosaic Law, to receive tithes from anyone during his time on earth. When Jesus was on earth the Temple was still intact. Imagine if Jesus had come telling the people to tithe to him and his disciples. As a matter of fact, when Jesus sent out his disciples to preach Jesus specifically told them not to take a purse with them, but into whatever house they entered they were to eat and drink what was put tbefore them. In essence, the ONLY THING that Jesus's disciples could receive from whomever they witnessed to was food and drink. Not only was Jesus not qualified to receive tithings from anyone, there is no record that either Jesus or his disciples did ever received tithing from anyone. So, if Jesus, his disciples, even Paul, never received tithes from the people nor even qualified to receive tithes from the people, HOW IS IT THAT ANYONE WHO CLAIMS TO BE A FOLLOWER OF JESUS TODAY THINKS THAT HE OR SHE SHOULD RECEIVE TITHES FROM ANYONE? The Church was established by the Apostles in Acts chapter 2. The Temple was still intact at the time. No one even considered redirecting tithings from the Temple to the newly established Church. As a matter of fact, it was the "haves" within the newly established Church who provided for the "have nots"within the newly established Church. Guess who didn't have their hands out for a handout. Yep! The Apostles did not have their hands out for a handout. In actuality, the Apostles appointed certain persons from among them to distribute necessities to the needy within the newly Church so that the remaining Apostles/disciples would be freed up to go preach the Gospel (on each's own dime, so to speak). The take home message is that anyone who claims that he is a follower of Jesus Christ and is preaching tithing did not get that message from Jesus, nor the Apostles, and definitely not from God. The question is, who or what rules are these modern day, so-called, christians following when they request, or even demand, tithing from the people? Can you say "the devil"?
