A scene from A Place in the Sun (1951) where George Eastman (Montgomery Clift) officially meets rich girl Angela Vickers (Elizabeth Taylor) for the first time.
This classic established Monty Clift and Elizabeth Taylor's life-long friendship.

Monty Clift is one of the only screen stars from the "Golden Age of Film" I could possibly feel like I "relate to." I think its mainly because he could play nervousness and awkwardness in such a way that it came off as "natural" - just look at the way he tilts his head and laughs when she says he looks unusual. This is something that a lot of actors from the period, even the great Marlon Brando, struggled with.

This scene is magical and the scene where they kiss and she says, "Tell momma all..." is pure sex with only the exchange of a kiss. A truly wonderful movie with so much yearning and tragedy. George Stevens direction and the chemistry between Elizabeth and Monty makes for magic.

- to Project DS: “… & in that perfect world they would’ve married & made beautiful babies [Yes. And maybe the entire world couldn’t have dealt with just how beautiful those babies would have been … so instead they could only love and Desire and LONG FOR each other from afar, without ever consummating, but forever loving in possibly the purest way known in the written history of human love: with unrequited love in the “perfect world awaiting them” which is not in their world where their love could not exist, let alone thrive. And that was the book’s title from which this soul-wrenching movie was drawn: A PLACE IN THE SUN/An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser. If you loved APITS, your love will be further enriched if you read the book behind it. OMG-: unforgettable.
@madeleinesaussotte8865

I meant: To Project DX (not DS) … most often the book deserves equal (if not greater) billing than the movie … tho the movie provides the Eye Candy. And you shouldn’t be surprised to know that Elizabeth & Monty were - in Real Life - The Very Deepest of Forever Friends. When Monty died in NYC in 1966 (from a heart attack), ET learned of it on the set of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW while filming it in Italy with Richard B … & she didn’t stop crying for DAYS, leaving Richard to say-: “well, she might’ve liked me, but she LOVED Montgomery Clift …” which, after all, was pretty candid of RB.

But in the movie, A Place in the Sun ... a plain factory worker ; finds a hunk and gets pregnant ; the father meets Taylor's character and he makes plans to free himself of Winters and he's successful. Poor Winters and her baby. This was the role which demonstrated her characters' bad luck ! Did you see her in _Lolita ?_

It wouldn’t have been as tragic, nor as romantic, nor as tragically romantic, nor as romantically tragic, as it is in plain Black & White - it forces your focus. You are not distracted by anything non-essential. You’re forced to feel the grip of your feelings. I swear - there isn’t another film that sits you right in front of what causes you to feel the origins of your delirium, your sense of powerlessness over what life throws in front of you, or your lack of control over what you’re supposed to be doing in, or with, your life when you CAN’T control what runs thru your mind or heart This is the perfect work of early-modern American fiction that really pinpoints what a real Tragedy is … the three main characters just, all too sadly, met at the Wrong Time

One of my favorite scenes of all time. This film is in my DNA. From the first shot to the last. But this scene cast a spell on me as a young gay man in the midst of my first romance. The spell has never gone away. After watching it myself initially not long after he and I met, I told him he had to see it. And I specifically told him there was one scene he was going to love but I wasn’t going to tell him what it was. Because oddly enough he and I had met in an eerily similar setting just a bit more modern. It was a teen club that had a section for pool tables. He lived 40 minutes away from me so our dates were scheduled and timed very meticulously for two teenage boys. Haha. I graduated high school early and he had a pretty lax morning schedule on certain week days so he came over early one morning after my parents went to work. We laid down on the floor and hit play. I was always big spoon. So as he’s watching, I’m watching too but I’m also watching the side of his face as he takes it all in. I could feel his face move when I laid my head against his. All at the same moments I enjoyed. But when this scene came I pulled my head away from his so I could see his reaction and right after Clift’s uncle walks in my boyfriend, Parker, turned around. He looked at me and, he was not an emotional person, in fact he still is not to this day 20 years later. But he had tears in his eyes. And he just nodded at me like, was that it? I nodded back. And I’ll never forget it, I said “You’re my blue boy”. He smiled and rolled closer, and like I said he was not emotional or very affectionate as far as kissing was concerned. But he put his hands on my face and kissed me in such a way that I’ve never forgotten it. 20 years later. Sorry for the long comment but this is really special to me. I don’t have kids so I don’t really have anyone to share this part of my story with. So I’ll just leave it here where it will never be seen. Haha ❤

+Steven Chappell Probably not many. Its actually a pretty simple pool shot, but it looks impressive because it hits the wall so many times. If you stand around a corner and shoot the white between the two holes life Clift did, its going to naturally end up at that hole it did. I've done it many times while fooling around at a pool table.
