I will mention one scenario where it becomes annoying. In the corporate/enterprise world there are extra layers to think about. Essentially, the security behind the libraries. For example, a vulnerability scanner we use has detected that C++ Redistributable for 2010 (both x86 and x64) are no longer supported by Microsoft since 2020. So I can uninstall it, but there is a chance an application will stop working all together as the developer of the third-party application hasn't changed anything on their end. I won't necessarily know this as i see no way of seeing what installed apps reference what library. Great Video!

Well stated, I have 19 of these and they take up less than 50 MB worth of disk space. I never bothered with them, but came here to see if they impacted windows performance.

Should these ever be updated either automatically and/or manually to latest version? ...And if automatic where does the update come from? ...and if so, will older programs like and run the newer C++versions? ...any help on answer appreciated!

very good advice, i think i had 14 or 15 of these C++ redistributables on laptop last year, i reinstalled windows 7, now only have 3, loads of space on hard drive now.

Hi Leo! I used to have a random black screen appearing issue before I formatted my pc. After the format, I had no black screen problem until I download visual c++ 2010 version. I had 2005 and 2013, but once I downloaded 2010, I had 10 blackscreens under 15 mins. Could it be a problem? And If I want to fix my black screen, is uninstalling will fix it or I have to format the pc again?

I have eighteen separate copies of these. I think wiping the hard drive and re-installing every thing might do something...

All of this is an unnecessary discussion. These Redistributales have an approximate package size of 20-25 MB. Even if you have installed 10 of these Redistributals that's approx. 250 MB in total. This is negligibly small compared to the size of today's hard drives in the TB range. Since it's difficult for laypeople to find out which package a special application is accessing, you should better keep your fingers from uninstalling Redistributales (this is quite time consuming even for a professional).

PSA: "Outdated" packages CAN and WILL affect your performance. I just came here after going crazy for a weekend, even considering buying a new power supply, ram, or having a computer sent back in for repair!!! I have this new computer, and it started lagging during loading scenes, scrolling, turning around etc. In the end what happened was that I installed an old game (AC 1) which came with an old redistributable. And this was buggy on my win11 computer and caused all this lag and stuttering. I deinstalled that package, restarted and everything was back to normal. As informative as this is, be aware that old packages can have a negative effect and I would have been saved a lot of sanity if I had known that before.

Hey Leo, im downloading Davinci resolve, and they have a Microsoft c++ 2015-2019 redistributable they want to download. i have them already on my computer. on the downloader it does not let me d- select them. my question is: will the 2nd distributable affect my computer in a negative way? my worry is that i will have 2 of the same programs and when they get called, they will each react and mess up my computer. or does it simply not download this new one because i already have it on my computer? thanks for any advice.

Ok. I have 3 versions of the 2012 one. is it really neccesary to have 3? theres only 32 bit and 64 bit? I feel possibly I delete one of these that a problem of mine could be solved. I know you advise not to incase another program works but I never had this issue until the last bit. One of my dj mixers will not connect. I didnt not update anything but it seems possibly a very of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables got installed as well as an Windows 10 update and now the DJ Mixer doesnt work as well as some Music Software. I heard reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2012 helped someone with some software they had so it makes me think maybe this is the issue.

its not about the space its more about the performance my pc was starting faster but after i did some update driver with that trash app called driver boost it take more time for my pc now to start i was planing to upgrade my cpu so i wanted to update my bios but instead it did not but now my pc feel more slower and i have upgraded my cpu feelsbadsman i removed startup usless windows app and i have made all the new update on win 10 but it feel alawys slow than it was after using drive boost
